HELP!!! I hate shooting :(

Hi,

I am getting really pissed off with the shooting on this game. Yes i may be a noob, but pressing the shoot button isn't exactly rocket science is it.

Nearly everytime i have the ball with Ronaldhino i take a couple steps to steady myself and BLAM! way over the bar. Even when i just tap the shoot button it can go way over and wide, even though i am pointing straight at the goal.

Is there something i am missing? I have tried all sorts to correct this. Sometimes when i tap shoot it dribbles along the floor, its really sad. I just want one to go 3 foot high like a rocket. Doesn't matter if the goalie saves it, i just want to make him work.

Any tips for me please? i am about to kick my game out of the window :(

Regards

Don't do that, you'll probably kick it too hard and send it over your window and make a hole in your wall man....lol :lui:

I totally agree with you although i'm starting to get the hang of just tapping the buttons slightly to get a decent shot strength.

so its just tap away. damn, whats the point in having a large shooting meter when all you want to do is tap it.

Also do you find that when an easy shot is on you sometimes "trying to lob the keeper" (as the commentator says) and rather pathetically at that.

Anyways, i guess i will create that hole in the wall :)

Thanks for yer reply.

oress r2

I shoot mostly holding R2, this gives you a more measured sidefoot shot, you also still miss and blast it over. It seems to work for me though. If that does not work, then have a long practice session of shooting!

Frankly, I think shooting in PES is too random. Sometimes you balloon it, sometimes it stays on the ground, sometimes it smashes in the net like a rocket. Shots that you point to the left go to the right. Shots pointed to the middle go left. Ans so on. The power bar is only an alibi and gives you the feeling that you have control, when in fact you haven't (well, actually in training mode you do... but once you start a real match...)

Couldn't and didn't say it better myself

Kinda agree to that. When you aim to the corner he kicks it badly and he sends it wide. When you dont aim, he kicks it into the goalie, it's kinda random. I only have the game for a month. I guess in like, 2 months i'll get the hang of it so that i wont miss a single one-on-one, like it used to be. At the moment i'm losing matches due to my inability to score.

Sometimes i dont even aim and the ball goes inside like a rocket...

sometimes u can fully charge the bar with adriano and get it slightly over the bar. It depends on the situation and pressure from defenders. If a defender is about to tackle u the ball is more likely to be hit quicker or over the bar. Its very realistic on that part.

the random part of the game is the best part imho. its unpredictable. brings a realistic element - people want too much perfection from their teams and can't handle the fact that this game is not an arcade genre anymore. shooting is not difficult, its like in real life, where you don't exactly powerup in the matter of the 2 seconds it takes you to bring your leg back, you snap the ball (this is what you do when you lift weights with your legs, to achieve a strong SNAP). So tapping the button has to be just right, its more of a reward when you score with the perfect push and release.

^^^ you could also argue that the inconsistency of shooting isn't actually random, it's scripted. IE. the cpu ultimately decides when you score, not the shot meter.

Yes, it's scripted to be random....

But you are right - while it is scripted to try to be real, the CPU does choose when you score.

lol, sounds funny doesn't it: scripted to be random. it is after all a video game, there has to be scripts that equal odds, much like its own environment.

It's not random, the way you take a shot is relative to the position of your players body, then to the player's foot and the location of the ball. Not scripted all.

I am getting the hang of taking shots using the R1+R2 combination. It really takes work to consistently shoot, the game wants to make you work.

Yeah it's definitely scripted. I played as De Graafschap against Real Madrid, and I pretty much dominated the game. In the 60th minute I had a chance that was ABSOLUTELY IN, I got past 2 defenders, gave it a soft tap and it went past the keeper, well it would have been against any other team, but it skinned the outside of the post and missed. The result 0-0. It seems when you struggle, but hold the other team to 0-0 after 89 minutes, in the 90th minute the team gets a goal. Well if its the other way round and you dominate but cant score, you rarely get a scripted goal for your troubles.

guys the game is coded/scripted, but that's how all games are - there are so many variables that control shooting accurately -

RESPONSE - how fast the player will react to the ball
ATTACK - adjusted higher or lower will determine the players ability to attack the ball.
SHOT ACCURACY - obvious
SHOT POWER - obvious
SHOT TECHNIQUE - obvious
MENTALITY - a bigger value than you think, if its lower the player does not perform as consistant.
AGGRESION - how hard the player will work to get to the ball

there are more, but those are the basics that factor into shooting. it's like a formula, hence in that way it is indeed scripted - but random occurence will indeed show up for time to time.

for these factors alone, especially mentality - is why you see so much inconsistency in the shooting accuracy. this is why you can't just say "oh in this one game, this happened and my player couldn't shoot" because in the next game it'll be different, or it won't - but maybe 20 games down the road something different will happen. All i'm saying is don't use one game's occurences as a whole mindset.

Yeah but it happens in a lot of matches I play. I'm up 1-0 after scoring in the first 10 minutes, and then in the 90th minute the other team scores. It happens a hell of a lot, unless I'm playing a crap team.

Fair enough. But why then the power bar? why the d-pad? what the stats for? Just have a shot button and have the CPU decide where to shoot at and how hard. How realistic would that be?

When I approach the goal and point to the left corner and tap the button quickly but strongly obviously I want the shot to go left and LOW -- at least generally. I want it to go left and low (at least generally) everytime i do that, and not depending on the scoreline, or any other whim of the CPU. Position, pressure, player stats, mentality all can still play a role (it could for example go too far left and miss, or too close to the middle and be saved), but when Zidane or Adriano shoot a ballooning ball to the upper right when in fact I made them target the lower left, something is wrong. Period.

allthough its kind of scripted, i like it.
But at times konami takes it over the top. You can see that especially when the goal is empty, its impossible to shoot in the desired direction when the goal is empty. The ball always goes in the direction where the keeper is standing. For example if the goaly is next to the right post and running to the goal from the side you cant shoot it to the left post, whatever you do the ball goes to the right.
And ive lost count how many empty goals i missed in situations where its harder to miss than to score.

Yesterday I scored a goal which was the most perfect example of exactly how scripted the shooting in PES 5 is. I got the ball outside the box with my attacking mid and charged in from the right. Since there was quite a lot of space and the goal was open, I decided to have a go and aimed a strong shot at the upper left corner, which considering the direction I was moving in seemed the best option. Instead of following my orders the guy decided to shoot a considerably weak but beautifully curved shot to the lower right corner. It was no deflection, he had the space and time and he hit the ball perfectly, it was absolutely obvious he deliberatly went for the lower right when I aimed at the upper left. Had I aimed for that lower left I would have felt absolutely delighted, cause it was a great goal after all. But the only thought that crossed my mind was 'well thank you Konami for that one, but I'm actually pretty sure I would be able to score them myself if you would f'ucking let me aim on my own.'

Of course not all shots are scripted like that, but still, how can i feel good about scoring when I know I might have had nothing to do with the shot itself?

I just feel happy when I score...period...cause I suck :) But yeah, the whole aming to the corner and shoting low instead has happen a few times for me too...now if I could only figure out how to deliver a good free kick :)
