How many professional teams are in the world?

Hi,

sorry to post this question here but i didnt find anywhere else where to post it. Does anybody know more or less how many professional teams are in the world? no matter what division but no youth nor female teams.

How do you define 'professional'?? Even here in England it isn't easy to decide how many leagues are professional, or semi-professional, nor indeed how many teams have some or all of their players that make a living from football (which I would argue is a reasonable definition of professional)

Short answer - no

Do some research with the Football Manager database, teams there are listed as Professional, Semi-Professional, and Amateur.
