how to play European football in first year of manager mode (pc)

It's been a longtime frustration of me that it's not possible to play European football in the first year of manager mode, though it is perfectly possible in the game mode 'the season'.

Now I have found a way to fix that problem, without any editing.

First, you start 'be a pro' with whatever team you want to start a carreer in manager mode. You select an existing player, and whatever European cup you want to play in. Then you save this, and exit right away.
Next step: start a carreer in manager mode with the same team. That's it. You have European football.

I'm currently only in my first season, so I don't know if there might be trouble at the end of the season. I also don't know if the winner of the cup in the first year is automaticly in the cup in the second year. For as far as I know it only works on PC.

OMG, you are right mate. It really works! :O

EDIT: but the calendar problems remain... Choose an italian team (Milan, Juve or Inter) and you will play 4 or 5 matches instead of the 6 of the group!!!!! That's a problem of the season mode too :(

I didn't know about that, Outsider 87. Stupid EA made the best FIFA ever, but manages to screw up by letting in too many bugs. But hey, this method for playing European is a bug as well, so we might as well take advantage of it.

Darkjavjo, if your be a pro crashes you've got a problem with your FIFA. You've probably been editing. On a clean FIFA on the pc it should work.

To be fair, I've read it on a dutch FIFA-forum (I'm Belgian btw, not dutch). I've asked the guy who came up with it how he discovered it, and he said it was by pure coincidence: he was bored, so he made a 'be a pro', and then he changed his mind and started a 'manager mode', and noticed he could play ECC.

I think everybody should know this trick, so I posted it here.

Another possibility is to change the IDs of the two European Tournaments (via CM 10). If they lower than 95, the teams who are qualified via the previous season will play international. CMS compatible is to give the CL the ID 93 and the Euro League the ID 94. And if you then start a manager mode with a qualified team, you will play the according tournament even in your first year.
