How would you feel about gay teammates in your locker room?

So in case anyone isn't aware Chris Culliver is a cornerback for the San Francisco 49'ers and he's taking serious heat because he made some anti-gay comments yesterday on a radio show, if you aren't aware of the story I posted a link below.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap10...culliver-faces-the-music-for-antigay-comments

Today I was at work plugging through foreclosure documents as I do on a daily basis while listening to one of my favorite shows in the local DC area which is the Lavar Arrington show with Chad Dukes. Chad Dukes asked a question to the listeners if they thought it was feasible for openly gay men to be in a locker room. I proceeded to tweet on his page that I had some reservations and basically said I didn't think it was appropriate for gay men to be in a locker room full of heterosexual males. Within seconds I received 3 reply's to my tweet and those tweeters didn't think to much of my opinion.

I don't despise gay people at all, I work with them, I'm fine with civil unions and now I have one in my family as my sisters daughter just came out about 9 months ago and I would do anything for her no matter her sexual preference.

The question I pose is the following:

Whats the difference between a gay man being in a locker room full of men and a heterosexual man being in a locker room full of women? The pro gay callers on the show seemed to paint the picture that gay men have some sort of super powers that prevent them from looking at other men who are naked and they would not become stimulated in any way.

Is this even possible just based on natural human instincts? Look I'm a sucker for a woman with a nice ass and every once in a while when I'm out and about I'll see one that stops me in my tracks so If you have 35-50 naked men in a locker room (depending on the sport) then how can I believe that the law of averages wouldn't kick in and this homosexual wouldn't be stimulated by what he would see. I'm not saying that I'm the Greek God Adonis or gods gift to women or gay men and the reality is my locker room days are over except for my visits to 24 Hour Fitness, however this does seem to be a topic that is creeping up on us and will need to be addressed sooner or later.

Now gay people want to play the victim when you feel the way I do and they react as if its so far fetched to think that someone attracted to the same sex would be turned on when they are in a buffet full of Schlong. So one thing I know about this forum is I will get some direct, honest, no holds barred answers if the majority believe it is acceptable?

Also, lets say your son plays on a team and you find out there is now openly gay boys/men in that locker room. Would it bother you and would you feel its an invasion of privacy issue?

Even if I felt slightly awkward about it I would 100% allow the person to carry-on freely, without prejudice.

Well let's see, I lived in a dorm room with one, so I don't think a locker room would be a big deal.

I think this is how I feel. That said, you do make a good point regarding separate guys and girls locker rooms. Surely this is a major reason for that.

It's a good question though, and one that so many people I imagine would jump up and call you homophobic etc just for asking. The best part about SG is most users are intelligent enough to get past this, and answer the question for what it is.

Seperate men's and women's locker rooms have to do with notions of modesty and chastity, not leering looks.

Yeah, this was my only question really. That said, modesty from what? I think the answer still has its roots at looks.

Have had gay friends, totally enjoy their company.

I Agree with yoyo and Shifty's comments, and hey, if a gay guy want's to have a look while I'm in the locker room, then I'll let him be.

I'm mildly homophobic in some regards (not really but I do get uncomfortable around flaming gay people), but a gay teammate wouldn't bother me in the least. Whether it's in the locker room or while playing the sport.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, some of my best mates are gay. I'd not be concerned myself, but I can understand the question JSchuck raises.

What is a locker room - just kidding... I recall the cold water hose behind the terraces more than a locker room. Then again that was probably a wee bit luxurious on shinty away days.
Is it a matter of prudishness among some that is the real issue. Sexuality for mine is a separate issue and should be seen as such. I have no issue whatsover with anyone seeing me nude - it is a truly hideous sight.

I'm disappointed. I was expecting something a bit more homophobic from you after you dropped this gem. (H)

What gem did I drop? I've worked my life in travel, hospitality and furniture retail. 90% of the guys I've worked with are gay.

I wouldn't feel any different about it than I do with straight men. At first it's kind of awkward, than it's actually strangely relieving to be naked around other men...

No homo, I hasten to add. (H)

It wouldn't bother me but I would occasionally make jokes at his expense, just in good old fun. (H)

One of my best gay friends always calls me and our other straight mates "breeders" :)

And we usually call him and his partner "the gays" or "the hom-osexuals" (in that old fashioned tone that old people say it in). We also often continually make jokes back and forth about "your kind" referring to reach other.

It's all in good fun if you know them well.

But you do need to know them (and they you) to be able to judge sense of humour like that.

Presumably the homosexual in the locker room would have a fabulous selection of colognes, moisturizers, hair conditioners and the like. Of course he'd be bitchy about sharing them but you could sneak them when his eyes were soapy.
