It should! Judge, I was so utterly intoxicated that I could not possibly have intended to commit those crimes. The drunk defense is actually so obvious for lawyers that every jurisdiction has to state that being drunk is no defense; I also think that's part of the common law.
Same in the UK. Which is outrageous. When I am blackout drunk, my mind or conscious has absolutely no control over my body and actions. I am essentially precisely as culpable as someone who is criminally insane.
