Lets starts simple. I read all over the place how PES fans say that FIFA is scripted. I dont know if you guys are technologicaly declined or what because.........All video games are scripted. It is called the program. Just like a movie, without the script there is no movie. A game on the other hand, without the programming there is no game. If a game was not scripted then you would be able to do anything. There would be no rules, no boundries, if there was no script, then you could take a player on the field and run right out and into the stands. Every time I read that respose I want to roll on the floor and laugh. There is no such thing as "true" A.I. They are given variables and the A.I.(program) at random chooses which variable or string to run in a situation.
Next complaint I read more than often is how sluggish FIFA is. I guess you even forgot one of your own arguments. You say FIFA is made for the beginner, so would you not think the default settings are for the easier play. This reminds me of what someone said on another forum once. "I like the GFX and gameplay in ESPN College Hoops 2K5 but I play March Madness instead becaue the camera angle sucks in ESPN." My response to dumb comments like that and to the one of FIFA being sluggish. Pause the game you friggin retards and change the camera angle or up the speed to fast in FIFA. They set the defaults to easy. All EA games are set for the beginner. It may not be on the easiest setting but it is on one that will let any person pick up and play. Once FIFA is turned on fast the game is much more realistic and responsive like in PES.
PES fans also talk about the realism and all that. The players do not even run anywhere close to a real person. KONAMI could never make good running animations and it shows big time in PES. No human anywhere on earth can stop on a dime and run the way they do. In PES I can hold sprint and turn a 180 on a dime with the ball. Why, because the ball has no forward movement unless you make it. In FIFA they have to react to the ball. The ball is still moving forward while they are stopping, so in return they have to control the ball and make the 180 turn while moving one direction at full speed and trying to go another, which is not as simple in real life as PES makes it. Lets take another KONAMI game for instance. Have you ever looked at the way Snake runs in all the Metal Gear Solid games. He runs like an idot and it does not look real. Sam from Splinter Cell on the other hand looks as if he is really running. Don't get me wrong because the MGS series is the king of stealth games but Konami can not even make the animation for running in their extreme high budget game look good, let alone their soccer game.
Another issue is the fact of the ball reaction from anything. Watch your replays closer. The ball does not even touch their foot when they shoot from a lob. I dont know how that looks realistic to all of you.
I have also heard complaints of the ball not going where you want it to go in FIFA. This is because unlike PES where every pass is damn near perfect no matter if you aim or not, in FIFA you have to press the direction of where you want it to go exactly. I am sorry if this is to hard for you to figure out but when I make a pass in real life i have to aim it.
Another is of the fact that your CPU controlled players in FIFA dont find good open spots. Yes they do by the way, but I thought that we played games because we are in control. I would rather have a button to send a player on a run than just expect the A.I. to do it for me. I am playing a video game instead of just watching a game so I can be in control. The problem is that you just dont understand how to use the send a player on a run command.
I hear the term marketing gimmick about the "first touch control". If it was a marketing gimmick then there would be no real use for it. I find plenty of use for it. The main problem PES fans might have with it, is the fact that you cant use it all the time. Does constantly hitting the stiff arm button in an American Football game always work........no.
The worst part of all the debates is the fact that PES fans are playing the PC version of FIFA and comparing it to PES. Yes the PC version of FIFA 05 does suck. The XBOX version looks great. The PS2 version is not far behind at all for the outdated hardware. The gamecube version falls far down. Then the PC looks as if it fell out of the nest in a 100 ft. tree when it was born.
Let me end this by saying that I play both PES and FIFA. No it is not as if I didnt give PES a try. I have FIFA 05 on the PS2. When my girlfriend is using the TV and I want to play a game of soccer I play PES4(with the wolf's patch) on my PC. PES gets a fair amount of play from me. I am not saying that it is a bad game because it is far from a bad game. PES is a great game of footy. FIFA is better though. I will not deny that I couldnt care less for FIFA from 2001 to 2004. There were no changes. The game was the same year after year. All 2004 had over the other 3 was off the ball control, that wasnt enough to get me to buy the game instead of just keeping 2002.
I am sure the main problem is everyones disgust for EA anymore. I will admit that EA has failed to impress me with about everything but FIFA. The Madden series is the biggest POS on earth. I am sure we are all pissed about the EA and NFL contract even if you dont like American football for the same reason most people have something against M$. People hate monopolies. Take for example this. I am aware that the xbox looks better than the PS2 and is far more powerful, then again I am a PS2 fan for the simple fact that I will not give any of my hard earned money to M$.
Well there you have it. Every PES fan says that for there to be a real argument that someone needs to give better details on why FIFA is better. I just gave very in depth details. Let me give the pros and cons of both games since I am a veteran player of both series.
PES4
Pros.
Sharp field GFX
Great corner system
Very good ref system
Stadium variety that is visual
Cons.
Player movement is unrealistic (this sums it all up)
Ball has ALMOST no physics during dribbling (very disapointing for a game that is all about the ball)
commentary is bad...no let me say "my god turn it off"
FIFA 2005
Pros.
Realistic player movement
The ball has plenty of physics
real First touch control
multiple ways to take someone down. (last time I went to a game there was plenty of pull downs and elbows to the face like in FIFA)
good play by play
players will slide to intercept a pass, they dont just watch it go by
great attempts to keep the ball in play
Cons.
Corner system sucks
all stadiums look the same during play
ref calls way to many offsides
