I was gonna cave in and buy a tablet, but fuck that noise. I changed my mind. Hoping to get the Note 2 next month. Out of contract unfortunately...

I have no idea why people want tablets. I'm basically never without my phone or laptop. Tablet is basically the worst combination of a phone and laptop. Crappy specs and can't run games, also huge and doesn't take calls. If you want to read, I honestly think it's better to get an old school kindle, because it's the most comfortable on the eyes.

I think tablets are handy when you wanna use internet at work/school but don't want to bring your laptop. It may be useful on long travels as well (long battery life compared to a phone). But then again, $500 for that? Too expensive.

I love the Nexus 7. I wish there was a 10 inch version of a tablet of the same functionality with reduced price (around $250 for 10 inch). The Nexus 7 has everything you need and excludes stuff you don't need (e.g. Back facing camera on a tablet is pretty useless and looks awkward when taking photos).

I don't have a laptop, and don't have much need for one. I do have a tablet though, and use it loads.

When I travel with work, or just travel by myself, I always use my tablet. I also use it for movies, TV shows etc.

I don't play games when I'm travelling anyway - I spend my time out doing stuff, so I only use the tablet for browsing the net, watching movies/tv shows etc.

I do get loads of old people (in the family, friends etc) asking me what tablet they should get, and when I ask them what for, and they tell me, I usually recommend a net book though. So I definitely get your point. But I can also see a place in the market for a tablet.

It has its pros. I take it to school, use it when I'm playing piano, and use Twitter when I'm watching tv. I wouldn't buy one, though. Too expensive for the amount of use I get out of it.

Is that the secret behind the world beating Finnish education system... :)

I like the laptop because I can use it sitting on the couch or laying in bed. I don't like sitting at a desk and using a desktop. I used laptops all through law school, and frankly I would think your professor would single you out as not paying attention if he saw you using a tablet because it's clearly not a note taking device. Laptop was also good for streaming sporting events in class; the legitimate networks all have apps for this, but you need... I think java... to run the shady ones, which means it's impossible on a tab. I watched Bayern's CL run in 2010 all in class.

It's flash you need. And sometimes shockwave.

Both of which you can get on an android tablet. I often stream sport on my Xoom.

Notes wise, a lap top or net book would definitely be more efficient. That said I have used my tablet for notes before.

As I said, for your purposes, a laptop or netbook makes the most sense. I HATE playing games on laptops though, so wouldn't trade my desktop for anything. And for the price, and what I need from it, a tablet makes much more sense for my portable use.

Android no longer supports flash. You can download it outside of the Play store but can only use it on limited browsers e.g. Mozilla.

Which is exactly what I do. Most browsers support it still, just not stock. Also considering that most users are on ICS and earlier, most would have it.

Even Samsung stock browser on later firmwares support it

Flash still works on the regular browser, but it's no longer in the Play store. Other than that I haven't really noticed a difference.

It works on the Samsung browser (as I said), not the stock Google one (which Samsung don't use)

It stopped working on the S3 stock browser after I updated to JB. I have having to use Mozilla if I need flash because this is a terrible browser. Any suggestions for browsers supporting flash?

Neither Chrome nor Dolphin supports flash since I updated my S3 to jellybean.

Speaking of which, if I just want a black and white ebook reader does anyone have suggestions? They've been around forever now, so I would assume that if I knew what I was looking for I could find one on ebay for virtually nothing. I like those old kindles where it almost looks like the words are on a page and doesn't appear digital and has like no backlighting. Kindle App is fine on my phone for all practical purposes, but I just don't like spending so much time looking at a digital screen so close.

Well I just checked and it still works on mine on the latest Jellybean. I'm on cyan 10.1, though, so I'm assuming it's a different browser than stock.

That's Android stock browser, not Samsung stock browser, so yes it's different.

However I have stock Samsung browser on the SGS3, running Jelly Bean, and it works. You just need to redownload and install flash after the update.

BTW. Dolphin browser also supports flash. Again, it's because after upgrading to JB, Flash is removed (as the system deems it incompatible). Download it and install it.
