"Juventus are just simply awesome"- Jesus' final words

Team Profile

Founded in 1897 by a group of school boys Juventus have grown to become one of the largest and most successful clubs in Europe. Juventus' position as major contenders in European football is underlined in their founding membership of the G-14, a group which represents 18 of the largest and most prominent football clubs in Europe.

Edoardo Agnelli took control of Juventus in 1923 and a period of major investment ensued at the club which led to second Championship win in 1926. The 1930’s hailed further success for Juventus as they collected a further five consecutive League titles from 1931 through to 1935. Following the death of Agnelli Juventus took a downward turn in performance struggling to find the form that had propelled them to success in the first half of the 1930's. Following the Second World War Juventus were back to winning ways collecting further Championship titles. This form continued into the 1950’s as Juventus built up a reputation as skilled competitors hungry for success and the club reaped the rewards as they completed the double in the 1959-60 season.

Juventus' stronghold in Italian football was further solidified in the 1970’s as the club lifted the Scudetto on four occasions due to performances of influential players such as Fabio Capello. Despite the success enjoyed domestically a European trophy still eluded Juventus until 1977 when the club lifted the UEFA Cup for the first time under the management of Giovanni Trapattoni. Trapattoni's management led to further dominance in the League in the early 1980's helped by notable players such as Michel Platini. The 1980's were highlighted by a European Cup win in 1985 when Juventus beat Liverpool in the final. Tragically thirty nine fans lost their lives on this night as a stadium collapsed in what has become known as the Heysel Stadium disaster.

Recently Juventus have been marred in a wave of controversy due to a match fixing scandal in which Juventus were sentenced to relegation to Serie B and stripped of two of their Serie A titles and docked points for the 2006-07 season. The 2006-07 season saw Juventus play outside the top tier of Italian football for the first time in the club's history and immediately bounce back to Serie A securing promotion at the first attempt.

In the 2007-2008 season, Juventus were back to their old ways, finishing 3rd after just having been promoted to Serie A. During this great run Juventus downed every Serie A giant from Milan to Roma and Inter, making a statement to the rest of Italian Football, that La Vecchia Signora is back, and with a vengeance.

Some rumors:

Palladino-->Genoa(apparently, it's almost a done deal)
Zebina+Almiron for Arda Turan (doubt it happens)
Diego Milito-->Juve, supposedly as a replacement for Iaquinta

I'd be disappointed if Iaquinta left, he's so awesome off the bench.

It sounds to good to be true though, no way Galatasary accepts it without some serious amount of cash. I'm not sure they'd want our crap either, they'd most likely only settle for cash.

His contract will non be renewed. He'll probably retire or go to a smaller club like Empoli.

Loving those kits, hopefully they're true.

Juve has always been my favorite Italian team, best wishes to you, good luck to the new season!

Starting XI
Birindelli has been a great servent, upsetting to see him just booted out the door like that.

Interesting to see Paro sold, he was GREAT in serie b. Although good to see we're hanging on to Marchisio, he's going to be great.

Hopefully Palladino is just a loan/co-own.

Hoping for Aquilani!!

I must admit I prefer Aquilani. Probably not going to happen, Anthony, you're right! Juve can always try.

Iaquinta might leave because he definitely won't get the first team opportunity he deserves here with the stacked forward line we have. I wouldn't mind him leaving, but I would miss him. He deserves to start on a good team. Roma are a team that could definitely do with a player of his abilities.

As for transfer rumors, that Arda Turan deal is becoming increasingly more likely.

Turan To Play In Italy - Agent
According to his agent, Turkish talent Arda Turan will play with either Milan or Juventus next season.

21-year-old forward Arda Turan of Turkey has been one of the big surprises of Euro 2008, and this summer he looks set to make a move to a big club, most probably in Italy.

According to his agent Ahmet Bulut, Turan "will play in Italy with a big club, Milan and Juventus are both interested. Next week, the European Championship is over and we will make everything official.

"Many clubs have contacted us, but his price-tag is pretty high and he only wants to join the best club. Whatever happens, he will play in Italy and for a big club. Juve and Milan are interested, and from Monday we'll be discussing terms. Again, I can say that Turan will be playing in Italy next season."

It seems the Bianconeri are in pole position, as they are willing to offer midfielder Sergio Almiron, along with around 6 million euros. However, first they need to free up a non-EU spot in their squad before they can start to negotiate.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Almiron + 6 million for Arda Turan is the deal. If that happens, man what a Moggi-esque deal. Would be an awesome buy, the kid has been superb for Turkey at these Euros.

Starting XI
on birindelli

guys im pretty certain he actually retired. i mean he announced it pretty much in an interview after the game against the melbourne victory. i was present at the game and when i got to my hotel after switched on the tv for the sports news. there he is retiring and thanking all juve fans around the world.

on our tranfer hopes... i dont know if juve are in the market for a forward..i mean with giovinco back i dont think there is much of a need to have another forward. i saw palladino play a good game vs melbourne (2 goals) and well as well as seba and rafa we also have amauri.... so our stocks are pretty loaded... and then we musnt forget the top 2 goal scorers of last seasons serie a campaign ale and trezegol.

midfield we seem to need 1 or 2 names... nedved isnt getting any younger.. so ideally we would need 1 player to replace him and 1 player just to make the midfield look better. this rumour i read of quaresma to juve for tiago and cash sounds pretty good. but at the same time is tiago really a waste of space? he like iaquinta would be a risk to give away... but if we get quaresma then i think the risk is worth taking.

defenders...well now you gotta love it when juve are linked to players like grosso and hamsik... these 2 would be a gift for juve... but in theory we will only really get 1 defender. the defence will need to start working as a team next season... as we need to overturn a lot of drawn games and concede less goals... names like the above 2 will definitely strengthen the team if we get 1 of them.

and finally il portiere... the goalkeeper... guys i dont know about u... but all this talk of older gks coming to play for juve as "vice buffons" is ridiculous...i mean i dunno how belardi and novembre rate higher than van stratten... young, pretty much unstoppable against melbourne (nothing u could do with carlitos hernandez's bullet from outside the box)... i saw a great future goal keeper.

all in all guys im just eagerly awaiting the start of this season.... and looking at those jerseys is pretty impressive... and not to mention the ucl logo... my god GIVE ME EUROPE!!!
