Keeper rooted to his line!

Since getting FIFA 08 for Xmas, I've found the most annoying thing about it (apart from the choppy graphics which, no matter what I try, I can't improve on), is that when I get a one on one with the cpu keeper he doesn't come off his line to close down the forward until the last moment. I can get almost to the penalty spot before he belatedly comes off his line!
Is there any tweaks to the cfgs which will rectify this?

Keeper Issue: Very strange. I don't have this happening at all, or at least not
that often. The keeper comes off his line sometimes, but he never stays there.
Of course, there are parameters in the .ini files I believe that can be adjusted to
change how often, and at one point the keeper will run out. I'll look into it.

Graphics: This is most certainly either a graphics card/cpu speed/RAM issue
with your system. I don't have any problem whatsoever running 08 at highest detail
on my AMD dual core 64 5000+ with dual (SLI bridge) Nvidias (GT 7500s ,256 MB
each). Its quite smooth, with no hint of choppiness. On the other hand, I run on a
centrino 2 GHz laptop at highest resolution and occasionally I might have a
hint of choppiness. In both cases I have 2 GB of RAM.

Thanks for your reply nebulachapin:).
Maybe I over-exaggerated a tad regarding the keeper; he doesn't advance towards the forward until, as I say, he's at the penalty spot or similar distance away. For me, the keeper should come out to close the angle down much quicker.

I think you're right regading the graphics; it's more than likely my pc specs (P4 3ghz,1gig ram, radeon x800se 256mb graphics card). I don't expect to run it on full detail, but even if I shift down to medium detail, 800x800 res, I still get choppiness. I must say though that it does improve slightly if I play on 'slow' speed.
It's annoying, as I can run PES6 on 1440x900, high detail as smooth as silk.

You can see in Creation Master, there are Goalie attributes like
Rushes out, stays on the goal line etc, maybe it is because of these attributes

I think you've hit the nail on the head crswind17:shades:. I didn't notice these attributes before, but looking at the keeper in question there is a check mark next to 'stays on goal line'.
Cheers pal:)

With regards to the graphics, Fifa08 is the first one I have played on this system which I could not run at optimum detail levels. I have an older system AMD 64 2800 (1.8GHZ) with a Radeon 9600 card and I need to keep the details on low. Yes, I know my PC is basically a dinosaur but the graphics dont look THAT much better than 07 and I could run 07 on high no problems.

For the keeper, I take it you are talking about the PC AI's keeper, because you can trigger your own keeper to rush off the line by using the through ball button (I think)

Yeah, the cpu keeper. You're right about the through ball button though, although even that doesn't seem as responsive at bringing your keeper off his line as it should (or maybe that's just me being used to PES).

I can see that you guys complaining about graphics are all running on ATI cards. Get a decent nvidea card and you won't have any issues.

The 9600 is about 5 years old. As for the most recent cards, the newer ATI drivers are really really bad. ATI hasn't produced a decent card or driver in ages now. So stick to nvidea and all youir problem will be gone.

I have an old AMD Athlon 2800Xp, 1GB ram and a Nvidea 7800 512MB and Fifa runs smooth as silk with everything on high.

Styphelus, tell me about it dude! This ATI card was a piece of **** when I got it 5 years ago. The fact that it will run the game at all is pretty much amazing.

Hopefully will be running a new rig in a few months so it wont matter, and I will definately be going back to Nvidia which I was fiercely loyal to in the old days!

I am afraid I have to agree. ATIs don't seem to work as well. I use nvidia as well. Its true you can get a lot out of lots of RAM and a good video card with lots of video RAM even with a relatively slow machine.
