The Konyaspor coach Tevfik Lav has died following a car accident late last night.
Club in mourning
The 44-year-old was travelling to visit his family in Manisa when his vehicle left the road near Turgutlu, a district of the city. Ibrahim Kaplan, Konyaspor's director of football, said the club was in shock upon hearing the news.
Visiting family
Kaplan said: "Because of the busy league schedule, he had not been able to see his family for a long time. The team have a break until Tuesday and he had been given permission by the board to go to Manisa." He added that the club had sent their condolences to Lav's family.
New appointment
Lav, who had previously coached Gaziantepspor, Siirt JSK and Denizlispor, started the season as coach of MKE Ankaragücü but quit his post last November before taking charge at Konyaspor in January. He started well at his new club, with Turkey striker Zafer Biryol continuing to prove a leading light for the mid-table team. Konayspor won 2-1 at home against Rizespor yesterday.
