True, it seems a bit arrogant. However, if I was working in another country I would try to learn the language as soon as possible. Luckily I'm dutch, speaking foreign languages is one of our talents .

Like it or not English is the 2nd most widely spoken language on the planet.So until we all learn Mandarin Chinese, English is accepted as the universal language.It has nothing to do with arrogance,thats the way it is.
Personally,whenever i am in another country,i endeavour to communicate in the language of that country out of respect.Anyone who intends to live and work in England should do the same.
