There should just be a rule put in place that says that the champion should automatically be allowed to defend their trophy, meaning they should be put straight in the groups w/o qualification, no matter what place they finish in their domestic league. I think it would be absolutely proposterous if Liverpool won't be given the chance to defend their win.

while I agree.. is something that has to be fixed next season, is too late for this season, it would be unfair to take any others team place.

Atleast Hamann has the summer to recover for us...bad luck though for the German NT. I hope this does not change his decision on signing a new contract with us though. :jambo:

Get well soon Didi :jap:

Any prediction on when he'll be back? a broken leg is something serious... I hope he comes back soon to help us

So supposing Hamann DOES go... we will obviously need a new DM to replace him. Who would be a good choice? I don't know all the players from the other leagues, but obviously Carrick (After his recent international performances esp.) would be a good choice.

Also, I don't know much about Kuyt (that we are meant to be signing). Is he actually a good player, or would he struggle against stronger teams? Is he likely to do a Kezman?
And Reina... Don't know much about him. In terms of comparison with other Premiership keepers, where would he stand? (In terms of overall ability.)
Finally... I heard we will be signing Miguel from Benfica and Evra from Monaco... They're good apparently, but are they worth the £4.5 million and £5 million we are meant to pay for them?

Uefa chief dampens Reds Euro hope

Uefa committee member Dr Joseph Mifsud said rules cannot be changed to allow holders Liverpool to enter next season's Champions League.
Mifsud has been a committee since 1994 and is also president of the Malta FA.

"While the English FA can do something in this regard, I believe as the rules stand at present at Uefa we cannot do anything," he told BBC Radio Five Live.

"Unless of course the regulations are changed. But I don't agree they can be changed midway through the season."

Pressure has increased on Uefa in the past week to include the Reds in next season's competition following their dramatic penalty shoot-out triumph over AC Milan.

Liverpool finished fifth in the Premiership, missing out on an automatic qualification for next season's Champions League - and Uefa rules do not allow automatic entry for the competition winners.

English Football Association chairman Geoff Thompson, who is also a Uefa vice-president, has lobbied for five English clubs in next season's tournament.

Liverpool will have to wait another three weeks before the issue is resolved by Uefa's 15-man executive committee at its meeting in Manchester on 17 June.

Well Uefa didn't even change the rule for Real Madrid. It's up to the English FA and they already made their decision.

I guess UEFA didn't change the rules for madrid because the spanish FA did what was expected from them... I'm not saying Everton doesn't deserve to be there, as they did a good job

That guy from AC...Gennaro Gattuso...why not, we are the champions. Too bad he said he would like to be Keane' s replacement. Next best option would be Carrick.

Personally though, I would want Didi Hamann.....in the EPL, only Makelele can play that position effectively.
