Because we were busy winning the EPL title for the last two seasons. Something Liverpool has not been able to do for a very long time now.The biggest prize in football for most English fans is the Premier League Championship. Maybe to a non English Liverpool fan this is not the case. You obviously do not realise how important the title is here. OR maybe you don't wanna talk about it because Liverpool can't win it. Give me the league title any time over the CL thanks.

Also the reason that we do not have a history of reaching the CL final is perhaps because, prior to 3 seasons ago, Liverpool were by far ( along with Man U), the richest teams in England. We were always a very poor club who generally could not attract good players when competing with the big money clubs like Liverpool and Man U.

Anyway....to all the smarter Liverpool fans on the forums :D (of which I have a few friends), Congrats on reaching another CL final. Can't say either team deserved it but if you miss 2 pens then you definately aint gonna make it are you?

so well done to Liverpool for making it.(Y)

This is something I don't understand, I mean, overall the past decade, I think all the big teams like ManU, Liverpool, Real Madrid, etc. spent much more than Chelsea on players, in fact, I'm pretty sure that the records for highets transfer fee were being broken yearly by ManU. But I don't remember people complaining. Is it because Roman came out of nowhere and started spending a whole lot in a few seasons? Well what do you expect? Do you want him to spend very little and slowly increase the club's fortunes? I might be wrong, but I don't think that Chelsea spends that much more than other big teams, but people seem to have a problem because they 'bought their way'. Without money, no team can succeed. Unless of course, you get young, loyal extremely talented players with 10 years contracts who will take the club up and never leave, oh, and you'll also need a constant pool of talented youngstrs of the same mould if you don't want to spend a lot of money.

Chelsea have money, but we all know that when it comes down to it, they play well and have a great team and manager, this besides spending the money well.

So stop bitching about Chelsea's money, because frankly, whenever you do that, all I can think is that it's very hard for you to come up with anything about their playing to complain about.

Yeah, big clubs have money, too.

But big clubs don't have super-arrogant managers that don't respect anyone, boring football despite unlimited budgets, and they don't inflate the transfer market with a single sign of interest in a player. Those are all the things Chelsea do very effectively. (Y)

I think Mourinho did your club a lot of damage. I remember the team that played Barca a few seasons ago, with Zola, Flo etc. A very good team that was a lot more exciting to watch than your current team, but didn't attract any hatred. When Mourinho leaves, you'll have a few more titles in your cabinet, but also a lot of distaste coming from other clubs. It's a shame really, because with the budget Abramovič made available, you could have had a decent and civilised manager that would win you titles and not cause half of Europe to hate you. Mourinho will go, but Chelsea will stay and I think the club will be the one to suffer because of the hostility he caused.

You may think Chelsea are doing great, but I think you could have done much, much better, with your resources and all. If you only had a manager that would bring the team to its full potential and show some respect and sportsmanship every once in a while, it would be a different story.

Look at it this way: three seasons failed to win the CL (if any team can say they have an imperative to win it, it's CFC with all the money and talent they have at their disposal), and the first season they faced some serious opposition in United, they're almost certain to lose the league. I think this season is a failure for Chelsea, and it's because of Mourinho. The talent you have in your squad is immense, and you should be playing much better footy than this, and producing better results.

Ah.....another Non- Englishman who can never appreciate just how important the EPL title is.

Vedrun......First up you are a Jose hater, that much we know, so your comments concerning him carry no weight. If its all the same to you man, we actually like Jose a lot. Mainly because he gets under the skin of every uptight footie fan who can think of nothing but Jose and Chelsea. Much like the English media really. I actually prefer a manager with some personality. At Barca you wouldn't be used to that I suppose.:D

Understand this too. We do not want, need or desire the love or respect of fans of other teams. Chelsea are there for Chelsea fans right. We really do not give a crap what anyone else thinks of us. We don't give a crap. Jose doesn't give a crap. Chelsea are not here to make you happy man. They are here to keep the likes of me happy.(Y)

And they fail at that even though they've spent a whole lot of money!

Just joking. Seriously now, if I had to choose between the League title or the European title this season, I'd go with the League. But maybe that's because we haven't won the League for a while and we got Big Ears in 2005. I'd expect Chelsea fans to want the CL this season more than the EPL, but then again, I'm no Chelsea fan, nor do I know any.

Englishmen on this board would you rather have your club win the EPL and be considered the best team in England or the Champions League and be considered the best team in Europe?

By the way pede, it looks like you won't end up with either this season, are you gonna go on to say about how prestigious the FA Cup and League Cup are now :)?

Help?

You guys are not giving any break to pede here. He might say some very arrogant and stupid things time after time, but the fact that the domestic league is more important than champions league is true. Domestic league brings in more revenue and viewers and its your performance over the course of the whole season, not just during one period. Perfect example is that Liverpool is in their second final in 3 years, are they better than United and Chelsea?

I know Manchester is out of the CL now, but had you asked me before the Milan or even Roma games, i would have said the same thing. Infact the whole United team has been saying that EPL is always the priority for them since the season started.

Was it for Chelsea? I mean, they've won it two years back to back and the CL is the one big trophy they don't have...

If their main priority was the League right from the start, then fair enough. But I don't think they've bought Ballack and Sheva to win the League.

Help?

Yeah i see your point. I'm not a Chelsea fan, so i can't say, but for United it was EPL all along. I'm sure they really wanted to equal United and Liverpool's records of 3 domestic titles in a row however.

Nah, I don't really hate him. Lets just say I don't appreciate his methods a lot. :)

However, I wasn't talking about pleasing others, but rather not becoming anyone's enemy. But yeah, it doesn't really matter. What matters more are titles and that was actually the reason I posted anything about Chelsea. I just think that, with your budget, you never should have allowed yourself to have a tired squad and a shortage in defense. And with the wealth of talent, you should have won at least one of the two big trophies, but you'll end up with neither. That was basically all I was pointing at - your team has too much ability to fail in both trophies.
Maybe Abramovič not wanting to buy anyone else supports my argument. Don't take this post the wrong way. It's not meant to insult your club, I'm just wondering why the Chelsea faithful are still so happy with Mourinho.

---------------

As for the league or the CL, the domestic trophy is always the priority. I think the philosophy is to secure your own backyard before conquering Europe. But the main reason behind the league being "more important" is the fact that it's easier to win, IMO. The CL is always a gamble, but the domestic league is far from it if you have the best squad.
However, if I could choose what to win, I think it would be the CL. Mostly because it's harder to win and the feeling is somewhat special, and the Club has far more leagues than CL's.
