What if you end up signing Fellaini,Herrera and Baines? That should pretty much deal with all of your concerns. You don't need creative players with Van Persie and Rooney. They are 3 into 1 players. Just making sure they get the ball closer to danger areas should be enough- instead of them having to run back to collect the ball, all the time.

Quiet on the Fellaini front though, apparently we are still after him as well. Would be sweet if we got them both after these long sagas throughout the summer.

And I think we're not after Baines anymore, the LB spot is not a priority. Evra is good enough for now.

"Star" midfielders play for other top clubs and are unlikely to move. Carrick is the best deep lying midfielder in the league,anyway. He isn't a "star" according to your definition,I am guessing, but pretty sure Chelsea, City and Arsenal would take him in a heartbeat.

I don't know what to make of the Herrera rumours. We basically have to pay 36 millions for a player who is not that well known when players like Thiago Alcantara or Fellaini had a transfer clause of about half of that. Maybe Fellaini is a bit overpriced too but we could have gotten 2 Thiagos for 1 Herrera.
