I cant believe the unbeaten run is over. Still, this game had all the makings of an upset after Keane's outburst. But with our quality, there were no excuses for not getting it done.

Robben and Crespo, from what I understand, were dropped because of their crap attitudes. Robben blew up after being subbed off against Betis, after doing very little, and apparrently Crespo had a bad attitude in training. Still, having him to replace or partner Drogba couldve made or broken this game. :|

Fergie just swore on the tele... "ah...that's absolute bollocks that" (H)
That interview was legendary. He and smith were a breath of fresh air

Peacock said it best. "If anyone doubts he still has the passion for the job..."

Damnit, they went to the betis game CL replay in the middle of his interview. I guess some people really love seeing us lose :|

Jose:
was surprisingly upbeat and responsive, and paid homage to ManU's game and players
stressed that it was a fantastic game of football
said it was a match they should have won, but that they could always lose based on the team and how defensive ManU were.
Said that after the betis game he was disappointed because of how they performed and that today he wasnt disappointed because of how well they played
Stressed that they wouldnt fall apart like the gooners last year
Said that Crepso not being in the squad was his call and his responsibility.

Well, so much for 40 games (C)

What are the odds for a Newcastle and Wigan to beat Chelsea and Man utd respectively? Might be worth a flutter.

Good game but man utd were a bit shaky at the foundations. The fact that ball possession and shots were prodominantly taken by Chelsea, and that the goal was meant to be a cross is still worrying.

No....its not all good...

Crespo was not injured. Jose stated that categorically in the post match

supposedly there was a bust up midweek, but he (predictably) denied any fracas

is this site running slower than hell for anyone else? :|

Heh, I love the language soccernet uses to describe it:
Manchester United bounced back from their week of crisis by ripping Chelsea's 40-game unbeaten Premiership run to pieces at Old Trafford.
I wonder if the same people write for Liverpool.tv

Hopefully Utd can carry this win & performance into the season

Smith: Keane's words inspired 'vital' win

Man of the match Alan Smith admitted criticism of himself and fellow Manchester United players helped spur them on to a 1-0 win over Barclays Premiership leaders Chelsea at Old Trafford.

Injured captain Roy Keane lashed out at Smith and several other players - including today's goalscorer Darren Fletcher - after recent poor results but Smith revealed the Irishman's criticism, which were filmed for United's TV station MUTV but not aired, were justified.

Smith said: 'I think sometimes we need a reminder that we are at a big club. We accept criticism when it comes. We are better than that and I think that showed.

'It's not just Roy, he's a proud person. He told us exactly what he said. We went out there today and put in a good performance,' Smith added on Sky Sports.

'Our commitment and our passion was there for everyone to see. I think today was a vital part of our season.'

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson hit out at any thoughts that he or his team were under pressure.

United have struggled in both the Premiership and Champions League but when asked if he felt under pressure Ferguson blasted: 'It's absolute b******s that, there's always pressure here.

'We went 13 games without winning once. Winning is always important here.'

Ferguson praised the way his team bounced back from a 4-1 defeat to Middlesbrough and the 1-0 Champions League loss against Lille.

'What we face is young players who have to get consistency, the bones of the team are sitting in the stand, no use to us,' Ferguson told Sky Sports.

'It's belief, and remembering what their abilities are about.'

Its ashame his words didn't inspire them for the game against Lille in the champions League :nape:

I kinda agree but what I want utd to take from this game to every other game they play is the determination they showed in todays match! But a victory is a victory and we played well enough for it! Well done utd...now lets keep it like this till the end of the season!

(Fletcher's still an averagely crap player)

thjats the united true from the heart.
i think this time while deciding the tactics on the drawing board with the team, fergie locked quieroz in the toilet.
4-4-2 was just good.
had it been another team,we could have scored 3-4 more.
it was a fantastic defensive display considering gary and heinze are out.
keano,giggs are also out.
the youngsters like roaldo, fletcher, smith(in terms of otential) proved the first step of being agoos enough.the next step is consistency.
hope we dont do a pompey like last year v charlton.
and hope ruud scores else he'll again lose his scoring touch.hasnt scored for what?4 games in epl? and 6 overall?

fergie is a fighter and he's proven that if anyone get back united on track then it is himself only who can.
che will continue to dominate the pl but lets hope for slump.
on a dfeeat today they still payed great football but lacked finishing in final 3rd

Do you support Man Utd aswell? (just asking!). Anyway, maybe the guy is being a little realistic eh? Man Utd in the good times would've pissed all over Chelsea at Old Trafford. They got played off the park and won with a lucky goal - Fletcher tried to flick it on for somebody else, and of course, he missed it. The ball went in, for EPL's sake.

good win for United. but put it this way, wouldnt you rather be at the top of the table, and being defeated in this match, than the other way around? this win means sh*t if you're going to fail in the next matches. i think Eto'o said this earlier this week (and he's the man id least like to quote): "3 points against Getafe are just as important as 3 points against Real". The same can be said here, switch Getafe with Middlesbrough.
