Few thoughts...

Chelsea weren't outplayed today like they were by Betis. At the same time, it wasn't like United got ridiculously lucky. Chelsea had their chances but to me, it just felt like they would never score and they didn't. United should have scored through Ruud and doubled their lead which would have made this win a little less nervy.

Joe Cole is useless. I don't understand what people see in him.

Also, Chelsea have an attack that seems so lackadaisical at times. Perhaps Crespo would have made a difference but Gudjohnsen, Drogba and Carlton Cole are soooo average. Compare them to the attacks of the other top teams in England and Europe and their lack of quality is apparent.

If only Liverpool play in the league like they do in the CL, we'd have a far more interesting league.

Till then.... Go Wigan!

This I must take issue with. Firstly, Joe Cole looked extremely peripheral and average today on the ball. He did nothing but complain when he got knocked down or look at the ref, instead of lowering his head and getting on with it as he did when he was threatened with being pushed out of the squad. Some time on the bench should get his head right, but, and I was just stressing this in the Chelsea thread the other day: he is our most dynamic attacker, period. He can play on either wing and even more adeptly in the center of park if we didnt have Lampard in that Attacking Midfield hole. Yesterday was a crap game admittedly, and he is starting to stagnate, but he has scored this year, and next to Robben (the Robben of last year) he is the most tricky, crafty attacker we have. He can break a game with one play, he is always getting shots on goal, and he tracks back to defend. On top of that, he loves playing for the club.

His biggest problem is vanishing from games like these. When he doesnt start to become central to the offense, frustration and drifting set in. When he is getting knocked off the ball, he tends to look at the ref now rather than go back and fight for it. That is something I detest about his game.

As for Drogba, Guddy and Carlton Cole; Carlton Cole is average, no question. Gudjohnsen, this year, has been average, especially in that Betis game where he did nothing, but as a substitute, and from midfield, he has been excellent and linking the offensive parts of the team together when he comes on. If Drogba is drifting too far forward or getting cut off from the midfield or wings, the arrival of Guddy can suddenly draw all those factors together. Yesteday, we saw evidence of that. He came into the game, and 2 minutes later, he Duff and Drogba orchestrated what was probably the most golden chance we had.

Drogba on the other hand is a target man who has been playing as well as he couldve the last month. Starting him, given how dangerous he had looked in the last few league games was a no-brainer over someone like Gudjohnsen who never seems to be up to it as a starting forward. The exclusion of Crespo, if he was fit, was inexcusable in my eyes. Had he come on for Ferreira or Del Horno and been plugged up front, there is no telling what might have happnened.

Yes chelsea dominated the possession in 2nd half, but what clear cut chances did they have? How many great saves did Van der sar have to make? I only can recall 1. We had more chances.
The chance close in with Lampard which was, as I recall off the play involving Gudjohnsen and Duff, the cross to an open Del Horno which he lumped over and empty net, and the chance Drogba had inside the 6 yard box where he fell and still tried to get it away. Those are the best ones I can think of.

Anyway, I thought of something last night. A win like this, if it propels United to a good spell in the league and gives them that mental boost to clear the CL group stage, might have been huge in landing Ballack's signature in the winter window....unless he has already extended with Bayern and I have missed it

I close my eyes, and stand there grinning (woah-oh), We started winning (woah-oh), you'd be grinning too.

When I first came (when he first came), I was much younger (woah-oh), I haven’t lost my hunger (woah-oh), I played 4-4-2.

I wore my suit (he wears his suit), the world is ain’t gloomy (woah-oh), I've got Wayne Rooney (woah-oh) and Ronaldo too..

I switch our style (he switches style), the fans are hating (woah-oh) But Carlos likes changing (woah-oh), I played 4-4-2.

A crossing kick, for a header, a little flick from Darren Fletcher, The ball flies right into the net and we're one goal the better...

May I return (may I return), to the beginning (woah-oh), It's so easy winning (woah-oh), when your team is red.

We can't go wrong (we can't go wrong), I am in heaven (woah-oh) Playing whatever eleven (woah-oh), I played 4-4-2!!
