Suarez would be awesome. He has great goalscoring instincts. How credible are the sources though? Looks like Foster is on his way out to Birmingham for 6 millions. He'll be having his medical soon supposedly.

Well normally the dutch media don't work with rumours a lot. 9 out of 10 times when they mention something it normally is true.....in pounds that will be a little bit less then 20 mln. If it's true then the first bid is just to see what position we and Ajax are in on Suarez.....

Ok great to hear that we're linked to him. Of course there's absolutely no guarantee that he'll blend in our squad and Rooney but he surely seems very promising. Some reports are saying that we offered 20 millions but Ajax are asking for 35 millions... Is 35 millions not too much? I think we should be careful with transfers now. We can't afford expensive flops anymore... Everytime we make a big money move, the player turn out to be a flop. Ferdinand (around 30 millions I think) and Van Nistelrooy (19 millions) were exceptions of course.

According to the media here in Holland we have officialy made a bid of 23.3 mln euros for Ajax' striker Luis Suarez. It has been turned down, they want more for him.... Very good player, a bit similar to Rooney's playing style, a bit of an allround attacker. The difference is that he is very unpredictable, sometimes he doesn't even know which way he's dribbling at, but it always seems to work for him....... He likes diving though, if you look at his amount of yellow cards, it is all because of his diving reputation. Besides that he's a good lad, he works hard, scored 32 goals this season if I am correct and can do a job for us

Luis Suárez is a brilliant young player, and I would find it tragic if he didn't move to Spain (he wants Barcelona, and I think he'd be perfect for the club) or Italy (Inter) ... he is the club captain, and has said he would be happy staying at Ajax another season, unless Ajax needs the cash ... so yeah, unless Ajax receive a monster bid for him, they would be disinclined to sell ...

From ESPN:
Sir Alex Ferguson may add just one more player to his Manchester United squad this summer as he plots to regain the Premier League title from Chelsea.

United chief executive David Gill has indicated funds are available to his manager to spend this summer, but Ferguson revealed he is happy with the balance of his squad, which finished a point behind Chelsea in the title race.

The United manager has already signed rising Mexican star Javier Hernandez from Guadalajara and defender Chris Smalling from Fulham, and a raft of new faces had been expected to follow. But Ferguson will place his trust his existing squad and his latest crop of youth and reserve players if he is unable to pinpoint any new signings.

Ferguson said: "In the market today it's very, very difficult and the structure of our squad is good in terms of ages, the balance, the numbers and there's a lot of good young players. Sometimes you have to trust in all the development of the last few years and I'm going to stick with that, or most of it.

"There may be one signing and maybe we'd like to get a good player to the club, of course, but it's not easy in the present day climate and I've nothing definite to tell you because we're still assessing whoever's available and the difficulties in terms of who you'd bring in."

Gill added: "Hernandez and Smalling are signings we've already made and the other point to bear in mind is that the Premier League is bringing in squad limits next year of 25, which we clearly operate [in European competitions] but is now coming to the Premier League.

"There will be unlimited under-21s and other rules and we'll be taking all that into consideration."

To that end, Ferguson also revealed he would not be replacing goalkeeper Ben Foster with a new signing, instead promoting England Under-21 international Ben Amos to the first-team squad alongside Edwin Van der Sar and Tomasz Kuszczak.

Foster is close to completing a £6 million move to Birmingham and the United manager is confident 20-year-old Amos has a bright future at Old Trafford.

"When we decided to let Ben (Foster) go, we were in the process of letting a good young goalkeeper, Ben Amos, go out on loan," Ferguson said.

"He's in the England Under-21 team but we can only accommodate three goalkeepers. So when the situation with Ben's future at Manchester United came into it and we agreed to let him go, we stopped Ben Amos from going on loan. He will now be our third goalkeeper, he's very talented and has a good future ahead of him."

All three keepers are likely to travel across the Atlantic with the United squad this summer. The club will have a training camp in Chicago followed by friendlies against Celtic in Toronto on July 16, the Philadelphia Union in Philadelphia on July 21, the Kansas City Wizards in Kansas four days later, and the MLS All-Stars in Houston on July 28.

Ferguson will give his World Cup players leave of absence from the tour, which will move on to Mexico and a game against Guadalajara, which was agreed as part of the deal to sign 21-year-old forward Hernandez.

Depending on Mexico's progress in South Africa, Hernandez is pencilled in to feature in the game.

Ferguson added: "It depends when his last game is for Mexico. Normally we give the players 28 days' rest but in the case of Hernandez we'll bring him to Philadelphia as soon as his games with Mexico are finished.

"The simple reason is he's young and I think he can handle coming in for training but, more importantly, it's for him to integrate into the squad because he doesn't know any of the players."

This is very disappointing. In my mind we probably still need 3 players, not including the 2 kids we have already signed.

Fergie is happy with the squad he's got, that's fine in a perfect world, only problem is he is seemingly ignoring the fact that half our team is guaranteed to be injured every season. Rio, Vidic, Evra, O'Shea, Evans, Neville, Hargreaves, Giggs, Anderson, Rooney and Owen, every one of those players will miss time next term, I would almost stake my life on it.

If our entire squad could stay healthy I would feel fantastic about our chances every year...but based on the past 3 seasons it seems that most of our players are made of glass.

I think its getting more and more obvious everytime that our spending power is very restricted... Ferguson always used to bring in players when needed in the past. We've lost Ronaldo and Tevez without getting replacements. Isn't it obvious? 75% of the Ronaldo money is going straight to Glazers' pocket, just as I expected.

34 millions for Villa is a bargain... I feel jealous. If we're going for 1 more player I wonder in which position. I hope either a striker or an AM who can score goals. Maybe that one player could be a major one who knows. Or maybe another Diouf of Hernandez for 3 millions. 60 millions from the Ronaldo money is going into the Glazers' pockets. How unfair is that? C*nts.

Why do you always blame Ferguson? It's not his fault if we can't spend. I'm pretty sure he'll be a big hit at Barca. If he came to United that would've been another story. We can't afford big gambles anymore.

Because I'm not entirely convinced that we can't spend. Ferguson has stated several times that he has ALL of the Ronaldo money and can spend it whenever he wants.

Until it is proven that Glazer took the money or is preventing Fergie from spending, I'm putting it on SAF.

To be fair though, I have to admit it's starting to seem more likely the cash isn't there for Sir Alex - although I'd be suprised if he had become happy to camouflage the fact. Sir Alex of old would have told the Glazers where to go.

I don't think we'll ever see a season for injuries as bad as the one we've come through - so in terms of numbers, I think one more will do.

You never know with Fergie, he might tell the press one thing - and then go out and do another.

I think if the money is being siphoned off though - the club needs to tell us there's no money for signings. Because if there's one thing being a United fan for 26 years has taught me ...

DON'T TRUST THE MEDIA!

Come on, we always used to spend like **** when someone goes. When Beckham and Veron left, we had 37 millions to spend and we spent them on more than half a dozen of players (CR7 (12M), Saha (13M), Heinze (7M), Smith (7M), Kleverson (7M), Bellion (2M), Howard (2M) and a few more).

In 2009 we had 80 millions but spent just 20. Isn't it obvious? And don't believe Gill when he says the Ronaldo money is there. He works for Glazers. Did you know that Glazers increased his salary from 1.1 millions a year to 1.8 millions?

anyone worth buying from Portsmouth. Bargain hunting to be done.

I don't think they've got the quality for United, O'Hara would be the one that would spring to mind - but I think he belongs to Spurs anyway.

Help?

I can't be bothered to provide proof, but I can state almost for a fact that since Glazers took over, United Net Transfers were positive (meaning more sales then purchases). So not only is the Ronaldo money not there, we HAVE to spend more to be able to afford somebody good.
