Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to launch a £10million deal to bring St Etienne midfielder Didier Zokora to Old Trafford. Manchester United boss Fergie is determined to land Zokora, rated as the best central midfielder playing in France. Chelsea have also been in the hunt for the Ivory Coast international, but Fergie is confident of signing the 24-year-old in the January transfer window. Zokora is similar in style to Chelsea’s Michael Essien but is priced less than half the £24m Jose Mourinho paid for the former Lyon midfielder. Fergie will enter the transfer market when the window re-opens and a pre-contract agreement to sign Zokora could be confirmed within weeks.

Manchester United are reportedly ready to pay St Etienne £10m in January for Ivory Coast international midfielder Didier Zokora.

The 24-year-old is said to be top of Sir Alex Ferguson's wishlist as the United boss waits for the transfer window to reopen.

Zokora has won rave reviews in Ligue 1 so far this season, with St Etienne currently eighth in the table after nine games.

And the ball-winning anchorman, who helped Belgian club Genk to the domestic title in 2002, has made it clear he would be keen on a move to the Premiership.

"I know Manchester United have been interested in me since last season but Chelsea have also shown an interest," said Zokora.

The Blues, however, are believed to have monitored the Elephants star earlier this summer in case they were unable to sign Michael Essien - a player they later snapped up for £24.4m.

I loved Didier Deguy Zokora in FM2005. One of my favourite DMs in that game. And I believe he is quite good in real life too. I'd be more than happy to see him come to the OT. We're in a bad situation and any player is welcome. (Y)

come on, FM is not the same thing as the reality, if they are close enough to be the same, those FM wonderboys would have become so great today, and Hoddle would have become a great manager in real life

Yah, thats it. Listen to everything a club says.

They use Chelsea as a bargaining chip to scare other clubs, or at least their more clueless fans, into believing there is a need to hurry up and buy. Chelsea have no use for a DM at the moment, as we have plenty in the first team, in the pipeline and on loan. And you may not have seen it, but Essien has become a fucking demi-god in five games at the bridge.

If Mikel ever gets tae sand out of his vagina and fulfills his contract, he could be the answer this new weakness you seem to have
