Evra signing for us wasn't big at that time. I was even surprised we went in for him, but he has way matched his valuation of what we paid for him. Absolute bargain.

It was widely known that Sir Alex made Evra his number one target before settling for Gaby Heinze a couple of seasons ago.Monaco didnt want to release Evra and the player himself didnt want to leave as he wanted to represent Monaco in the CL.

Players whom can play the LB position now will have to be fit to cover Evra.I'm thinkin of O'Shea,Simpson and Bardsley as only natural fullbacks and none is leftfooted.Anderson mentioned in an early interview that he played LB for Brasil before,he can be a choice.Giggsy for LB???

FT 1-0

Great result, not so good offensively. The only time we were able to string 5 passes together, we scored. Saha had a few good chances that he missed though. Overall great start to the Champions League campaign and lets hope for better performances to come from our forwards.

Good win, Sporting isn't an easy place to go to and considering we have a bad history with Portugese teams, I am happy with this away win, below par performance, but I guess the lads didn't go there to play pretty football, we did what we had to do, winning no matter what, Rio, Vida and Van Der Sar were fantastic today, Ronaldo improved in the second half,

Looks like Mourinho left Chelsea, but we shouldn't be counting our rabbits just yet. Chelsea might go out with a point to prove and absolutely no pressure on them in that game. And when Chelsea are not favourites they do well usually.

Fergie has to put on both Rooney and Saha against Chelski.

Can't wait to see the Terry's crying face after losing.

When I got up that morning and switched on Sky Sports News, and immediately when I heard Jose Mourinho had left, I was off my seat and I was ecstatic, hopefully this will end Chelsea's dominence and I think this year, the Premiership title race will go between Liverpool and Manchester United.
This is perfect timing for us, with the Chelsea game coming up on Sunday, should be a great game and the reds will take all three deserved points.

"Bye bye Mourinho, bye bye Mourinho, he's such a foolio, he's such a foolio"

If this is the mentality we have against Chelsea thinking it would be easy pieces, then we are going to lose. Yes, for once in a long time, Chelsea are there for the taking but our players should treat it still as a big championship-deciding match. They have a new man in charge and they will be highly motivated to prove their doubters wrong.

I wouldn't want to write off anybody else yet in the race at this stage. If I was to write off Chelsea now, then I would have written off our chances three weeks ago when we weren't doing so well. Just because Jose left doesn't mean they can't win the title. They still have a world class side (except for Lampard). I for once like to take note of Arsenal more seriously. They have won 4 of their 5 games with another in hand. A team that wins many matched early season is a team to watch out for.

Yeah I agree, I for one am a little bit worried about Chelsea, it could go either way, either Mourinho's departure has hit them hard or it makes them even stronger, but as you said, we shouldn't be tempted with the thought that this could be an 'easy' day for us because Chelsea is without Mourinho, last season the same thing happened before West Ham, and they played there best match of the season against us

Ah Lee, so you finally admit Mourinho was a good manager whom you feared - fantastic.

Well, in as many words at least.

Mourinho said he would take a job overseas before he returns to England, I wonder if theres any chance of a Queiroz Mourinho double team replacing Fergie.

I can only see him coming back to England for one of the big four, Spurs might be an outside chance but I don't think it's beyond the realms of possibility that he will end up here after all the key players of the next generation will be Portuguese speakers.

If Mourinho was to come back into management in England, then the last thing he would do would be to join a Chelsea rival. I think perhaps he's thinking of taking over the England team, once McClaren gets sacked.
He might have a short spell with the Portugese national team then he'll probably take over the England managers job.

He might even take the captaincy away from John Terry, saying as how they've had a falling out, he might even give the captaincy to another Chelsea player or back to David Beckham. :D
