HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROY KEANE!!!!!

10 August
• Anniversaries

Roy Keane
Date of birth: 10 August 1971
National team: Republic of Ireland
Clubs: Cobh Ramblers FC, Nottingham Forest FC, Manchester United FC

Keane was signed by Nottingham Forest manager Brian Clough and initially played mainly on the right of midfield but, after transferring to Manchester United in 1993 for €5.3m, he soon switched to the centre.

He went on to be hugely successful with the Old Trafford club and anchored United's league and cup double-winning team in 1996 and the treble winners of 1999, inspiring the club to the UEFA Champions League title although he missed the final through suspension.

Keane's international career temporarily ended of the eve of the 2002 FIFA World Cup finals as he was sent home from the squad, but he has since returned to the Irish squad in time for the start of the 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.

Hopefully Ole can come back and play for us again after this season.
Many premiership players can play up to aas old as 35,36.
Look at Di Canio, Zola, Ape Keown, and now Hierro is coming.

We will need a striker like him a season later and hopefully he can inspire once more and teach the young like old strikers in the premiership have. Les Ferdinand, Dublin, etc.

exactly.
and he can continue his 'super sub' role if not the regular winger.
that would give him rest at his age and also bring up good performances.

i was just wondering......what if we still had Nicky Butt?
he would have been useful considering half our squad is injured.that would have allowed him to give more appearences and try recapture his form

That was exactly what I had in my mind. What if Butty was still here?

anyway, here's the squad that travelled.

Goalies:
Tim Howard, Roy Carroll, Ricardo

Defenders:
Gary Neville, Phil Neville, John Oshea, Quinton Fortune, Mikael Silvestre, Jonathan Spector, Phil Bardsley

Midfielders:
Ryan Giggs, Roy Keane, Eric Djemba-Djemba, Liam Miller, Darren Fletcher, David Bellion, Kieran Richardson, Paul Scholes, Chris Eagles

Forwards:
Alan Smith, Diego Forlan

I would go with

-----------------------Howard-------------------------

--Gary-------Keano--------Silvestre-------O'Shea

------------------------Phil--------------------------

------Fletcher/Phil-----Djemba-Djemba---Giggs----

------------------------------Scholes--------------

----------------Smith--------------------------------

It is not imperative that we win this match, but we would not like to lose. Stability and balance is key, especially after the Community Shield loss. That's why I'd be ultra-conservative and choose a 4-5-1 with Scholesy as attacking midfielder, Djembax2 and Phil to strengthen the midfield. If we play this formation, Djemba-Djemba would have an important role.

We can put Keano in midfield if needed.

Hopefully Sir Alex has that formation in mind too. Don't bother starting Bellion in front or on the right. Yes I think we should give him a chance, but not with CL qualifying.

I think he might start Forlan to play a 4-4-2. And he might not start Fletcher because he lacks match fitness, as well as Fortune.

Hoping for a steady 2-0 win.

Without Ole, we really should be looking into buying Rooney.

I'm thinking that sending out Bellion on loan could also be extremely benefical. He's got really good pace and game sense, all he needs is a shot and he could be another Thierry Henry (though SAF seems to be trying to mold him into a winger).

Bellion just reminds me so much of Henry while he was at Juventus. The potential to be a true threat is there. He may not be world class right now, but he's not someone we can afford to throw away.

Maybe if we get Alan Hansen to say "You can't win anything with kids" on MOTD again our youngsters might develop into the same players certain youngsters did back in 95.:p

My opinion:

Youngsters are a great ideia when u have players like Giggs, Keane and Scholesy (experience) on the team. We should never back off from the work we're doing with them. I know we're not having another generation like 95, but we're having a different one and maybe more exciting wid Ronaldo, Smith, Richardson (I love this guy), Howard...

IMO

Where did I say that the current bunch of young players are bad?
We have a few decent players though it'll be hard to produce another Scholes, Beckham, Neville etc. again.

Maybe he is not referring to you Phil, but the posts which says that Richardson or Eagles can play better. I know someone posted it, but I can't be bothered to find it.

Bomb Scare Disrupts United
8/11/2004 2:52:00 PM
Manchester United's preparations for tonight's Champions League qualifier away to Dinamo Bucharest have been disrupted by a bomb scare at their hotel in the Romanian capital.
Police searched the city centre Hilton hotel where the team were staying after a bomb threat was made, but nothing was found.

It was the second hitch to hit Sir Alex Ferguson's side before their key game as their training session last night had to be cancelled due to heavy rain.

Forgive me for saying this, but I assume it was a fan of Man Utd. who was embarrassed by his team and wanted to spare them the potential humiliation they quite possibly will endure tonight, should they lose.

No possibility can be ruled out.
