Well, in my opinion I think this is a result of a 'change in the rules of the game' that has come about as a consequence of Iraq and Afghanistan. Basically the civilian casualties became so numerous that people stopped counting... a 'numbing down' effect i guess... and now that civilian casualties are considered 'incidental' (to quote Benjamin Netanhahu on the BBC) to other aims then basically its all over. The UN has always been toothless when it comes to Israel becuase of the US veto and it is no different this time. The only organisation that might have some possibility of calling Israel out is the Red Cross who are already starting to make noises in terms of the proportionality of the response which is in the Geneva convention.

What makes this even worse is that it appeared Lebanon had turned a corner last year and were starting to make ground economically and socially... and now Israel have gone and screwed it up. The best thing for Israel would have been to allow a strong government to form and slowly build in Lebanon... they of all nations should know things don't happen in a year... but now they have just gone and ensured that will not happen.

And its not just Lebanese citizens who will by dying in this. There are thousands pf people there from places like Sri Lanka and the Phillipines, places that will not have the means to get them out.

Meanwhile the governments in Damascus and Tehran sit there ruubing their hands as they know the actions of israel will only serve to promote even more anger and hatred of the West.

I can't believe how gullible some of you people are. Can't you see? It's all THEIR work. This is exactly what they want you to believe. It's those God forsaken Raelians, they've been trying to turn us all against each other. Christians vs Muslims vs Jews vs Scientologists vs Eazy-E groupies.

They have been planning this for generations. They want us to annihalate our kind so that their alien friends from outer space can come and take over. They have already infiltrated some this planet's most exclusive and influential elite circles. And they have been using their positions of power to sow the seeds of conflict and hatred, and now they are beginning to prepare themselves to reap their rewards. They have done just the same thing to my people on the once glorious planet of Krypton, they divided us and made us fight amongst ourselves so that we were blinded to everything else and were too helpless to do anything when our final destruction was wrought upon us.

George Bush, Tony Blair, John Howard, the Israeli government, Hezbollah, Bin Laden, the Iranian and Syrian governments, Saddam Hussein, Zarqawi, Marco Materazzi, they are all RAELIAN. They all seek the same goal, the sealing of your doom, just as they have already done to many other peoples before you. Do not let their lies deceive you, do not allow them to turn Earth into another Krypton.

DON'T BE FOOLED BY THOSE DIRTY RAELIANS!!

In an interview with CNN he said that more than 55 bridges had been destroyed, and that Israeli forces had also targeted ambulances and medical convoys.

"This attack is no longer against Hezbollah, it is an attack against the Lebanese and Lebanon," he said.

Bombed-out roads and bridges are hampering aid efforts and on Thursday the UN warned that the humanitarian crisis was worsening by the hour. About 500,000 people are believed to have been internally displaced by the conflict.

However, Israeli Defence Minister Amir Peretz has warned that Israel is prepared to launch a full-scale ground operation if necessary, saying "we have no intention of conquering Lebanon but... we will do it without thinking twice."

...followed by years of insurgency, internal power struggles, car bombs, kidnappings, and absolutely zero progress.
