I had never heard of Foe or Puerta before their tragic passings, but the fact that Phil was a familiar name to me and that it was on home soil adds to the shock value.

Makes me really depressed to think that unprofessional, thuggish scum like Joey Barton can earn a living from football and waste their career while a model professional in O'Donnell, who above all was a father and an ideal role model to young players, has had his life cut short.

R.I.P Phil, and condolences to all affected by this loss.

The good die young man :(

I can't believe this has happened yet again, RIP :(

Oh man, unreal. Just saw him playin down at Fir Park like 2 weeks ago when they hammered us 3-0!

Unthinkable

I'm gonna dig out my corinthians Phil O'Donnell footballer! Even if he is wearin a Celtic top

R.I.P

RIP Phil O'Donnell

Really does reveal football to be meaningless compared to life.

Good point. I guess when this happens you can at least take a tiny bit of comfort from the fact he died doing what he loved (not much though) My thoughts are with his family.

This is happening far too commonly in football now. (Mind you, once is too often)

I really don't mean to turn this awful event into a points scoring thing. I really don't. But if Motherwell's game is postponed (absolutely appropriate thing to do), Gretna's game postponed (appropriate, they were going to play at the same ground as Motherwell's), The Old Firm game postponed (umm, I don't get why really, Phil played for Celtic around 10 years ago) then why the hell are the SPL making Dundee United (who witnessed the terrible event) play tomorrow when they asked them to?

The story is Dundee United asked us if the game could be called off. Hearts agreed. They go to the SPL with the request (they said anyone who wanted their game cancelled would be granted it) and it gets knocked back. How come the grief junkies from Glasgow's East End get their game postponed yet Dundee United don't?

Utterly despicable from the SPL. :f***:

Den, in my opinion all the games should have been called off as a mark of respect in the SPL. Just my opinion. Thoughts?

It is truly sad when somebody dies like this, especially someone who you see, talk to, etc. every day...then to see him fall to the ground for the last time before your eyes while playing a game is utterly shocking. You talked to him this mroining and just like that he's gone. Poof!

I agree with Tom, the SPL should have called off all games immediately as a sign of respect for him and his family.

R.I.P.

Absolutely agree. There's probably a case for no SPL football until after the Scottish Cup, which means the league would resume on January 19th.

I'll be going up to Dundee tomorrow... it feels completely wrong, regardless of whatever the outcome of our game is tomorrow.
