Mourinho lashes out on Makelele

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho claimed Claude Makelele is being treated like 'a slave' by the France national team.
Makelele wants to retire from international football again having returned for the World Cup qualifiers and finals, culminating in a penalty shoot-out defeat by Italy in the final.
But the French federation have told Chelsea the veteran midfielder will be suspended from club matches if he misses his country's forthcoming Euro 2008 qualifiers.
Following his side's 2-0 win at Blackburn, Mourinho told Sky Sports 1: 'Makelele is not a football player - Makelele is a slave.
'He's played the biggest game you can, the World Cup final, and now he wants to retire but the coach (Raymond Domenech) told us if he is not playing for France, he is not playing for Chelsea.
'We know the rules. You are a slave, you have no human rights.'

"a slave" is prob. not the right choice of words, but yeh I guess he should be allowed to retire whenever he wants, im sure theres a 1000 young lads willing to take his place

yes exactly. Note the use of "that" in your sentence, and contrast it with the use of "on" in the thread title.

Doesn't say anywhere he lashed out at Makelele, but says he lashed out on Makelele. "Makelele" meaning here "the Makelele issue"

What is up with the French coach, if a player no longer wants to play for a national team that is his right and he already announced he was retiring from the national team so why keep bothering and begging him? What will happen if Makelele does not report to the French team when he is called up?

Why are people get worked up over Mourinho using the word slave? (:/) He's sayin that as he feels Makaeles being over worked and has already done his duty for the French National Team, i'm sure Maka's not offended by it just because he's black.

France have already lost Zidane... And Makélélé can refuse a cap, so I can't understand these words. Maybe it's ironical...

In France, we were all thinking Domenech was an idiot, but 2 years ago he said he'll play WC Final, and France did it. So...
