Or as some might say, MY TWO CENTS... (oh please forgive my spelling, I wont be paying attention)

First of all, Im not any kind of FAN boy of neither FIFA, PES nor FIFA Street... Its just that I just saw like 8 new FIFA Street videos from IGN.com, and, im confident that with my more than 10 years experience (love?) with both FIFA and PES, and a whole life as a soccer player, allows me to give out my humble opinion.

Hopefully, EA is listening or at least the community agrees on what we should expect from some quality software, specifically Soccer games from either EA or PES...

- First of all, I must say this, I've been looking forward for the 'Street' version of FIFA since NBA Street came out... such a wonderful and refreshing Idea. So I was really happy when it was announced.

- As an overall, before you read ahead, im disapointed from what I've seen.. these are my reasons :

- Like I said, its been more than 10 years now, regarding the development of '3d' Soccer games, so, for that amount of time I can confidently say we should be expecting A LOT MORE from games developers (by the way, the same develpers of the same game for 10 yeras now). Im talking about animations and A.I. at least... (this goes for FIFA and PES too...)

From the videos:

- Such an unrealistic movement, the players walk or run kinda of weird, either to slow or to fast on some movements...

- How come we went 1 or 2 years back and the ball is SO ATTACHED to the players feet? its disgusting to see a player walking or running and the ball bouncing of their feets 'magically'... it hurts to see that ball-payer interaction.. from my opinion, A.I. should worry about keeping control of a completely independent object, a soccer ball, just like real players do.. they constantly worry about kicking it with the correct amount of power into the correct place.. all the time... they worry about how to position their feet when the ball comes airbone, predicting how the ball will bounce from that foot into an advantegous position... It SHOULD worry and treat it independently... i know Ill just press the pass button, but the player 3d model should make the correct movement and position in order to complete the pass... He is Ronaldo right? he shouldnt fail often... but im a video game player right? i should just press the pass button....

- Whats with the opponents A.I.??? the goal keeper... such AN IDIOT... thas not realistic at all.. magic and automatic saves... or dumb goals.. not even balanced.. either too magic or too dumb, nothing in between and realistic... hey! he wont come out his area!, is that some type of EA developer 'Street Soccer' rule or what?... is it that hard to program???... attackers walking into the goal keeper and he's just there, looking , waiting... and when a shot comes, he is already diving to get it!... but he wont come out his area and slide me, no he wont... not even mention get the ball from the attacker and join the other 3 on an atacking melee...

- Goals on real Street Soccer games come from fast passing and 'wall' passing and constant movement around the pitch.. which ends with a 'one time' shot to goal... and of course, goals come from special movements... (more on that below).. if I take some one with a special movement, the next defender comes runing to me trying to take as much space as posible in order to now avoid either a shot or a pass to the free player... he doesnt just stand there in his 'predefined' position does he? like inf FIFA Street....

- 'Special' movements are a big thing on real Street matches... and on FIFA 'Street' too.. although... they are not fluid.. or real on the game... if you pull a special movement on someone on the right time and place, the game enters some type of 'state' where ur player makes its move and your CPU opponent just sits there 'watching' how good the movement was made, working on a pre-defined animation, with not much to do or react... on real life, these movements work the other way around... the attacker usually waits until opportunity comes, like when a defender slides or jumps or comes running into to you, and then, taking advantage or their poorly planed movement , real players perform their movement , taking advantage of the defender movement or position... a 'tunnel' a 'rainbow' , etc, whatever you call them... Smart defenders can predict these oportunties and pretend to be stupid, and for example, just when a 'tunnel' comes, they close ther legs and go away with the ball.... 'oportunity' should give an attacker a small time-frame to do ur special movements, taking advantage of the defenders position, and only a limited number of movements on that time-frame should work... and the defender should be able the react on an even smaller time-frame....

- Doesnt EA learn from their mistakes?... the game's 'narrator'... just awfull... a british accent guy that just makes the game anoying... remember Fight Night EA?.... shut him please!

- The music... oh the music... repetitive, repetitive... it not the basics of a real Street matches... you should be able to listen to more shouts and calls from your teammates, peoples 'oh!!'s and 'wow's and laughs when you make up a sucessfull special movement on someone... music should be coming like from someones car or stereo far away....

Those were my two cents.... I really was expecting MORE from this game.. although I know its not finished, I can already see what to expect from it.

One could argue: 'you dont like, dont buy it'... Im just hoping critisism helps everyone... companies developing better games, and people having higher expectations from their $50 ... I wont say I wont buy beacuse hey!, I've bought all of the FIFA series for some time now... so I now what im dealing with...

feel free to bash me...

???

Cant I? is there a rule or something?... I mean, its just a word...

I clearly said Im giving my opinion based on what I saw on 8 videos posted on IGN.com.... playing the game wont take away the problems I mention or make a difference on how the game looks and reacts... its all about the 'implementation' of a soccer game...

I think u meant REVIEW.

but think about this for a minute it's EA BIG.

They take something and make it larger than life, so it will be faster at times and slower at times.

And I have also played the NBA Street games, and am happily enjoying the new NBA Street V3 I just go last week. Anyway, there you barrage your opponent with trick moves, much like this one. BUT there is a thing where they stop your trick if it is timed right.

So maybe if you do the certain command in FIFA Street (Let's say it's two turbo's and uhhhh Square, on PS2) your guy closes his legs to stop the tunnel pass, or jumps up and prevents the sombrerito. Get it get it?

But yeah I play soccer and watch soccer and I've seen goalies do really great saves and give up really stupid goals. And I'm sure there is an in between in the game, like your usual type of stops.

So yeah, quit hating cause it's not a REAL Review cause you would need the friggin final product to do so. Let's just say this was your analyses.

Which we should all expect in FIFA Street, since it has been done, and it should be even better than NBA Street's... not just predifined animations...

Maybe you didnt get my point... of course real players do that, but then again, not like in FIFA Street... Goal keepers should 'try' to save the shoot, you know , take the desition to 'dive' the best way they can.. but instead we get magical Goal keepers which have some type of relation with the ball and know exactly where it will go (or the direction its also defined by where the goal keeper is), and EA delivers us another batch of pre-defined animations... The 'independent' ball should have it path definied by lot of factors like the quality of the player and type of shot.. and then the goal keeper should 'try' to reach that place depending on his skills...

So yeah, quit hating cause it's not a REAL Review cause you would need the friggin final product to do so. Let's just say this was your analyses.

I have already cleared this point... made my self quite clear on the first post... its MY opinion based on watching some videos and based on my experience using similar products from the same company.... I dont hate FIFA or EA, I actually love their games... its just that we should expect better from such a company with their experience...

Quote me:
"Consoles are getting a lot better so, shouldn't games THINK better instead of just looking better?... "

Have you seen the images EA released as how they think games on the new consoles will look? they look awsome!... BUT the games should also play better and think better... and this is something we should expect or demand from such a company

lol that quote is from IGN, that site rocks.

but the goal keepers, it's like this. it's got to be off the hook saves so you can go WHOA FRIGGIN #%&(@#* and stuff. If it were real they wouldn't be able to fend off the barrage off shots that are more than likely to be in every game. Each game would be like a minute long if they were "real" reactions.

and about the whole depending on the player thing, i think it will be just as you said. let's take NBA street for example, a certain someone is maxed on blocks but you got Kobe driving on him, who is maxed on dunks, Kobe seems to get through, when others not as good would have been blocked. i'm sure they will apply that type of formula like you said, obviously it's not going to tell you this and that, but you can simply see it done.

but uhhhhhh yeah. the game comes out in a week. :rockman:

2-22-05 is the shipping date at GameStop.com, and I reserved it early this month, and they also verified that date. Plus it's $40.

I say reserve it if you live in an area that soccer is not quite as popular as other sports. Because of course, they would have gotten very few at your store, if any. So reserve it, and they WILL get it. ;)

Can't wait to make a team of my friends and I so we can play against the International greats. :rockman:

well, then it depends on personal preferences.. I would rather go "WHOA FRIGGIN #%&(@#* " on realistics stuff (like sometimes happens with PES for example) , than seeing a 'Superman' flying to get the ball... maybe its just me...

and about the whole depending on the player thing, i think it will be just as you said. let's take NBA street for example,...

Well, I know thats how it works, some formulas decide what happens next, based on each players attributes.... its just that everything should look more 'independent'... the attacker, the attackers shot, the ball direction, the keeper dive, etc.... it sometimes looks as if the ball direction is planned according to the keepers attributes, not how the shot was made (which should depend on the current attacker position, attributes, blah, blah, blah)

oh and the thread starteR, good post. good points. i agree with them. but i saw in the training video that you CAN cancel out the tricks of the players

Thanks, it would help out if more people agree and companies like EA listens and shifts away from a comercial perspective....
and yes, I just saw the video too... there is some type of opponent trick 'cancel' button... hope it works ok somehow....
