Or as some might say, MY TWO CENTS... (oh please forgive my spelling, I wont be paying attention)
First of all, Im not any kind of FAN boy of neither FIFA, PES nor FIFA Street... Its just that I just saw like 8 new FIFA Street videos from IGN.com, and, im confident that with my more than 10 years experience (love?) with both FIFA and PES, and a whole life as a soccer player, allows me to give out my humble opinion.
Hopefully, EA is listening or at least the community agrees on what we should expect from some quality software, specifically Soccer games from either EA or PES...
- First of all, I must say this, I've been looking forward for the 'Street' version of FIFA since NBA Street came out... such a wonderful and refreshing Idea. So I was really happy when it was announced.
- As an overall, before you read ahead, im disapointed from what I've seen.. these are my reasons :
- Like I said, its been more than 10 years now, regarding the development of '3d' Soccer games, so, for that amount of time I can confidently say we should be expecting A LOT MORE from games developers (by the way, the same develpers of the same game for 10 yeras now). Im talking about animations and A.I. at least... (this goes for FIFA and PES too...)
From the videos:
- Such an unrealistic movement, the players walk or run kinda of weird, either to slow or to fast on some movements...
- How come we went 1 or 2 years back and the ball is SO ATTACHED to the players feet? its disgusting to see a player walking or running and the ball bouncing of their feets 'magically'... it hurts to see that ball-payer interaction.. from my opinion, A.I. should worry about keeping control of a completely independent object, a soccer ball, just like real players do.. they constantly worry about kicking it with the correct amount of power into the correct place.. all the time... they worry about how to position their feet when the ball comes airbone, predicting how the ball will bounce from that foot into an advantegous position... It SHOULD worry and treat it independently... i know Ill just press the pass button, but the player 3d model should make the correct movement and position in order to complete the pass... He is Ronaldo right? he shouldnt fail often... but im a video game player right? i should just press the pass button....
- Whats with the opponents A.I.??? the goal keeper... such AN IDIOT... thas not realistic at all.. magic and automatic saves... or dumb goals.. not even balanced.. either too magic or too dumb, nothing in between and realistic... hey! he wont come out his area!, is that some type of EA developer 'Street Soccer' rule or what?... is it that hard to program???... attackers walking into the goal keeper and he's just there, looking , waiting... and when a shot comes, he is already diving to get it!... but he wont come out his area and slide me, no he wont... not even mention get the ball from the attacker and join the other 3 on an atacking melee...
- Goals on real Street Soccer games come from fast passing and 'wall' passing and constant movement around the pitch.. which ends with a 'one time' shot to goal... and of course, goals come from special movements... (more on that below).. if I take some one with a special movement, the next defender comes runing to me trying to take as much space as posible in order to now avoid either a shot or a pass to the free player... he doesnt just stand there in his 'predefined' position does he? like inf FIFA Street....
- 'Special' movements are a big thing on real Street matches... and on FIFA 'Street' too.. although... they are not fluid.. or real on the game... if you pull a special movement on someone on the right time and place, the game enters some type of 'state' where ur player makes its move and your CPU opponent just sits there 'watching' how good the movement was made, working on a pre-defined animation, with not much to do or react... on real life, these movements work the other way around... the attacker usually waits until opportunity comes, like when a defender slides or jumps or comes running into to you, and then, taking advantage or their poorly planed movement , real players perform their movement , taking advantage of the defender movement or position... a 'tunnel' a 'rainbow' , etc, whatever you call them... Smart defenders can predict these oportunties and pretend to be stupid, and for example, just when a 'tunnel' comes, they close ther legs and go away with the ball.... 'oportunity' should give an attacker a small time-frame to do ur special movements, taking advantage of the defenders position, and only a limited number of movements on that time-frame should work... and the defender should be able the react on an even smaller time-frame....
- Doesnt EA learn from their mistakes?... the game's 'narrator'... just awfull... a british accent guy that just makes the game anoying... remember Fight Night EA?.... shut him please!
- The music... oh the music... repetitive, repetitive... it not the basics of a real Street matches... you should be able to listen to more shouts and calls from your teammates, peoples 'oh!!'s and 'wow's and laughs when you make up a sucessfull special movement on someone... music should be coming like from someones car or stereo far away....
Those were my two cents.... I really was expecting MORE from this game.. although I know its not finished, I can already see what to expect from it.
One could argue: 'you dont like, dont buy it'... Im just hoping critisism helps everyone... companies developing better games, and people having higher expectations from their $50 ... I wont say I wont buy beacuse hey!, I've bought all of the FIFA series for some time now... so I now what im dealing with...
feel free to bash me...
