My Conclusion About FIFA98 MOD'ing...

Player Speed / Acceleration Myth

Many people believe that the WYSIWYG characteristic of FIFA'98 player editing can lead to easier efforts being put on attributes fixing. The truth is, however, crueller than anyone can think about.
Take the basic aspect of a football player's performance for example: speed and acceleration. One may think that, as in FIFA'98, change SPD and ACL values with specific sets of number combinations so that a type of player pattern is given instantly. Take me myself for the demostration, my average speed on field in my perdiction reaches nearly 2km/h (that's pretty low for a mid-level club player), so I decide to assign 47 for SPD of my virtual identity in FIFA'98 player database. As to ACL (acceleration), I think that after years of fading I could burst in a much lesser distance compared to my university time. Therefore, 39, 43, 47 are the preferred values for my ACL. Then, the most strange thing comes. As I saved the changes using FEd98, enter the game and play a virtually-self-engaged football friendly, after some time I can see myself always run in time to stop every opponent's balls and even occassionally make some dangerous attacks and hit at once successfully. That's not the way for a football amateur, especially I'm not the type of person who always exaggerate him/herself, and also I may take the chance to give the mass public a really bad impression. So, what's the problem with the SPD, ACL, and other FIFA'98 attributing sematics?
With tons of time spent on FIFA'98 research, I discover one general and the most effective rule of MOD'ing the game: try, try and see. You may be disappointed for what I said, but hey, EA still doesn't get it open-sourced like some abandonwares' copyright-owners do (sorry to say that... only if you found it's 14 yrs old after this New Year!). The day they agreed with it, the myths of FIFA'98 could be fully unlocked once and for all.
Nevetheless, there's one suggestion from me for you to take if you dare to enter this harzadous and time-killing world of FIFA'98 customized patching:

WYSIWYG only works for mid-level to high-class teams (in real football that's equivalent to the top ranked 100 int'l teams). For the 'minnows', the lowly-ranked ones you have to use Try And Error methodology to make their virtual identities look close to real in-game.
