my Fifa 2004 review

Hi there.
I've been playing FIFA 2004 pc version for 7 days now (already completed a season) and here is my personal review of the game.
I divided it in 2 sections: one with "+" and another one with "-".

Let's start with the good parts. So....

+ Graphics - everything in the game looks fabulous. With the right video card and the proper settings you'll experience a great game with a great design. And here I include: stadiums, crowds, player faces (exception: Camoranesi from Juventus IS NOT a skinhead!), kits, balls etc.

+ Gameplay - very realistic.

+ Freekicks and corners - in Fifa 2004 we can choose from more options when you take a freekick or a corner. It's not so easy anymore to score from freekicks and that is more realistic.

+ Team Management - there are more types of line ups that in Fifa 2003, besides different styles of playing (attacking, neutral....)

+ Career Mode - a great idea from EA Sports. You really feel like a club manager administrating a team. Also a very good idea with players morale (which decreases for the players that don't play many games in a row) and players fatige (which increases for the players who play all the time).

Now the worse parts:

- Commentators - the commentary is almost the same with the one used in Fifa 2003. Same lines....just a few new. And I'm also bored by the voices of Motson and McCoist.

- Menues - they are really horrible. You can not catch all the data in a single screen, so you have to scroll (for the starting line up, standing, player stats etc.) The menues are also a little hard to understand so you have a little trouble surfing till you get used with them.

- Tournaments - it seems you can not create your custom turnaments. For example, with the national teams you can play only friendly games. There is no Champions League or UEFA Cup apart from Career Mode (and you get to play them only in the 2nd season) so you have to wait a while if you want to play in these cups. Another very bad thing about tournaments (and now I'm talking about CL) is that you always get to be in a group with other teams from your league! That's very bad, never happens in real life.

- Stadiums (2 less) - as I said, the stadiums look great, but I don't understand why they took off arenas like Olympiastadion or Olimpico from Rome.

******Graphics are very good.

+ Gameplay - very realistic.

******Not close. It's so hard to dribble past players. It shouldn't be easy, but it's almost impossible to do so.

+ Freekicks and corners - in Fifa 2004 we can choose from more options when you take a freekick or a corner. It's not so easy anymore to score from freekicks and that is more realistic.

******This might be true from other FIFA's...but PES/WE freekicks and corners have way many more options and just simply feel right. Not to say FIFA's aren't fun, but they much more limited.

+ Team Management - there are more types of line ups that in Fifa 2003, besides different styles of playing (attacking, neutral....)

******True I guess as well, but again PES does things much better. More control over positionng and shape.

+ Career Mode - a great idea from EA Sports. You really feel like a club manager administrating a team. Also a very good idea with players morale (which decreases for the players that don't play many games in a row) and players fatige (which increases for the players who play all the time).

*****They really should've/could've done more than 5 years. Much too short in my opinion.

Now the worse parts:

- Commentators - the commentary is almost the same with the one used in Fifa 2003. Same lines....just a few new. And I'm also bored by the voices of Motson and McCoist.

*****Commentry in almost every game becomes repetative. Still not bad in FIFA. I really like how when the game is boring they sometimes go off on some kinda tangent like EURO2004, or sponsors logos on the shirts.

- Menues - they are really horrible. You can not catch all the data in a single screen, so you have to scroll (for the starting line up, standing, player stats etc.) The menues are also a little hard to understand so you have a little trouble surfing till you get used with them.

******Menus are totally junk. Really, really bad the way the incorporated menus.

- Tournaments - it seems you can not create your custom turnaments. For example, with the national teams you can play only friendly games. There is no Champions League or UEFA Cup apart from Career Mode (and you get to play them only in the 2nd season) so you have to wait a while if you want to play in these cups. In all i'm a PES fan, and will continue to be until EA shows me something better. But EA does have some fun stuff to offer, it's just the fact they have so much, but offer so little that frustrates me. I haven't played a FIFA game for a long time, and after taking a chance on this effort, it's going to take an impressive outing from EA to make me buy another.

i think he means could you talk more about how realistic the gameplay is, which is basically what he said except the 'more' and 'about' were in the wrong place........so give the guy some credit......i presume he's not from an english speaking country given his name is kochung........if he is, then i'll be damned......
