NCAA Football Conversions

I'm planning on converting a few stadiums from the NCAA Football series. I'll post them here as I finish them. I'm not going to do a ton, maybe half a dozen or so, at most. The process to convert them is complex and takes time, but the models are high quality.

Most of the ones I'm going to convert are classic MLS grounds and they'll be intentionally "bare bones" - static adboards, few props, a lot of empty seats, etc. Because that's how most legacy MLS stadiums were back in the day. Some may not have glares. No problem if anybody wants to do their own editing or enhancing of these models.

Next up is the Rose Bowl. Site of the 94 World Cup Final and the original home of the LA Galaxy from 1996-2002. There's already a version of this stadium out there, but this model will be the best and most accurate since it's an EA Sports conversion. My version will be as it appeared in the late 90s and early 00s, without the new video board, etc.

It's a pain, to be honest, but the end result is great. You have to get a dump of the PS3 game and use some tools that the CFB Revamped community developed to find the stadium files. Then you have to use a tool like Hex2Obj to convert all the raw hex data into .obj files one piece at a time. Then the textures, then resizing, then the crowd, etc.

I could probably knock one stadium out in a week or two if I had time to do nothing else, but unfortunately my employer wouldn't appreciate that very much, so it's a lengthy process for each one.

The Rose Bowl has been an especially challenging one because it's so big. The model itself is OK, but the crowd files are so big that they're crashing the game. So, I'm working on trimming down the crowd size to get it to work. I'm close, but not quite there yet.

Around 2044kb and 2046kb actually. 32 seats per kb. Means that you can only have 65.472 faces on a crowd object.

It is 2048 kb then Therefore, max face would be 65536. If you divide 65536 to 2048, you get 32. Which means, 1024 b of data is like 32 seats. Then, 32 b is for 1 seat. In Blender, a seat is 1 face, which has 4 vertices. I would like to continue, but there is no need. I appreciate humberto's mind, he is a brilliant modder. Enjoy the mathematics session. It is the grandfather of software development.

Yeah, in real life the Rose Bowl holds over 90,000 and the NCAA stadium models are much closer to the real number of seats than the FIFA ones are. My crowd file with the NCAA version initially had about 75,000 seats in it. I've got it trimmed down under 65,000 now, and I haven't tested it yet but I'm hopeful it will work.

I'm going on vacation for the next week so I won't have time to do anything with it, but I'll hopefully have the Rose Bowl model completed by the end of the month.

Very close to finishing up the Rose Bowl. Anybody know why these shadows are appearing over the terraces in clear day weather? I've never noticed this happening before.

After quite a bit of work and several delays... The Rose Bowl. Converted from a combination of parts from NCAA 08, 11, and 14. This version is as it appeared from 1996-2002 when it was the original home stadium of the LA Galaxy, an occasional venue for the US national team, and the primary host venue for the 2002 Gold Cup.

1996 Olympics
1998, 2000, 2002, and 2003 Gold Cups
Several US national team matches in the 90s and early 2000s
Various other pre-season and friendly matches for several clubs and countries

It also hosted five Super Bowls. It was closed permanently in 2008 and later demolished.
