I have seen the classic patch available on moddingway. Although I must say they did a decent job. I feel that not that much attention (detail) has been placed into some of the face making or stats of the players.

Unfortunetly I'm not talented enough to help you on this task, but I sure support the cause.
I really enjoy moddingway's classic teams patch and agree with you that the lack of faces is for sure disappointing.
Have a nice work and good luck on gathering people and resources.
