Hey guys,

I'm new here and basically new to soccer games. I played Wii Fifa WC... I understand basics of soccer but have lots to learn (I love watching english's premier league and enjoy having a team with certain skills and trying to coach/play to their advantages). I have Fifa 12 for the PC and have the 360 controller and am learning as I go but I need your help.

My goal is to eventually (not sooo long from now) be a competitive online player in a league with like skilled players and then just advance from there.

I've started by playing on professional level against the AI and I've competed pretty well losing 1-0, 2-0 and 3-0... I do have assists on... and haven't really worked with anything except an occasional change in formation. Initially, I'm having a tough time getting shots off and a hard time stopping the cross. I am not using any real tricks... just quick passes and attempted thru passes... I think it's fair to say that my style hasn't found me yet. THE GLARING WEAKNESS in my games so far is lack of offensive productivity, i can't create opportunities... I don't know how to cross accurately, I can't get free for a shot and I have a tough time keeping offensive pressure on the opposition... I do feel pretty good at passing and defending... but maybe the assists are giving me a false sense of security.

I wanted to begin with the tutorials however my gamepad doesn't work in the tutorial mode. I haven't figured it out yet.....

So if any of you guys wouldn't mind, I'd love to know what you'd do if you were starting over from scratch... OR at least what you think I should do to get competitive at a pretty good pace....Should I just play offline games at first while I learn controls and tricks and strategy? Should I mix in some online games? What skills shall I practice? I've picked up many tips for team settings and tactics plus formation discussion from this forum so I'll be trying that tonight...

What online games should I play? Ranked? Not ranked? Again, with the ultimate goal of mine to be competitive in league play.... what steps would you take?

Also, just a question or 2 about online play, do leagues allow trades and have injures, fatigue etc... like offline careers seem to have? It appears that it should be pretty easy to get in a league with similar skilled players. I'm amazed at how good and DEEP this game appears at first glance. I can't wait to learn...

Thanks for your time in advance.

Welcome to SG Forums! :innocent_smile_1:

I'd suggest:
- trying to utilise the precision dribbling on offence sometimes
- make lofted through balls as a part of attacking weaponary, particularly if you play with team who have pacy strikers.
- initiate pass and run plays
- practice crossing in the practice mode to get a hang of it.
- continue to play matches, you'll improve as you go.

All the Best! (Y)
