Funny, that....

Emre touches down in Newcastle

Inter Milan midfielder Emre arrived on Tyneside tonight to tie up a move to Newcastle as Graeme Souness closed in on his second summer signing.

The 24-year-old Turkey international was met at Newcastle International Airport by the Scot and coach Dean Saunders and whisked off to prepare for a medical tomorrow after the Magpies finally made a breakthrough in their protracted pursuit.

Emre is expected to complete his move to St James' Park tomorrow to join £6.5million Scott Parker among the new faces in Souness' rapidly evolving squad.

'I am so happy because Newcastle is a very big team and for me, the manager is a very important person,' he told the club's official website.

Souness was cautiously optimistic as he prepared to close the deal.

'We have worked hard to get him here,' he said. 'Hopefully we can tie everything up and get him signed as he will be a real addition to the squad.

'We are just going over the final details. There are a few things still to be decided, but I am confident we can do that.

That looks about as close to "done and dusted" as it gets before being official. I suppose it was inevitable as he was so determined to play in England, but I really think this guy could turn out to be excellent for the Mags. At Inter, I believe he was just squeezed out because of their midfield numbers, but I definately rate the guy from what little ive seen of him. In fact, before Chelsea let Veron go, virtually, for free ( :| ) I wanted to try and get him and Andy VdM back in exchange. Van der Meyde, im not so sure about anymore...

Emre will be a very good signing for Newcastle if he can only stay healty :x: As long as he didn't go to Fenerbache i was happy and as long as he gets first team action i will be happy

You got the steal of the summer with Emre, man. A technically gifted hobbit who's natural positions are ACM/just below the striker(s). He's got the pace and stamina(this dude will not cheat you on effort), but I don't know if he's got the wherewithal to handle the physical grind of the EPL. Too bad Laurent isn't around anymore because he would've benefited greatly from Emre's presence. The kid is a dribbling machine who gets fouled often and therefore creates a lot of dangerous deadball situations just from his flair and aggressive direct runs at opponents. Don't pay too much attention to his detractors that'll tell yah that he's nothing but an injury prone, diving, volatile midget, because he's not. Give 'em an opportunity to showcase his talents and he will not disappoint, man.

I have never been a big fan of Emre's to be honest... so we'll see how it goes for. Hopefully he will adapt to the English game very quickly.

We should have found a way to keep Bellamy at the club though ... thats one that'll come back to haunt us for sure.

To be honest our season could be anything ... and we could finish anywhere between 4th and 17th :s

Pleasing result to open our intertoto campaign:

FK Dubnica 1 Newcastle United 3

Team Line Up: Steve Harper, Steven Taylor, Celestine Babayaro, Amdy Faye, Robbie Elliott, Jean Alain Boumsong, James Milner, Nicky Butt, Alan Shearer, Michael Chopra (Martin Brittain 58m), Charles N'Zogbia.
Subs not used: Shay Given, Peter Ramage, Paul Huntington.

Goals from Chopra, Shearer and Milner

I didn't watch or listen to the match but it sounded like most of our best attacking play came through Milner who capped it all off with a 30 yard lob to seal the game.

Young Dutch GK relishes Newcastle move:

"It's a fantastic move for me to sign for such a big club. To come and play in England has always been a dream," he told Newcastle's website.

When I was a young boy I always used to say to my father that I wanted to come and play in England."

Manager Graeme Souness has already captured midfielders Scott Parker and Emre Belezoglu ahead of the new campaign.

Krul was a member of the Dutch squad that finished runner-up at May's Under-17 European Championship and qualified for September's Under-17 World Championship in Peru.

so anyway, Newcastle won the second leg 2-0 and now face... Deportivo la Coruna in the semi final!!

quite a match up there. It just goes to show that teams are desperate nowadays to play in Europe.

Well first leg is Wednesday July 27th and might be live on British Eurosport.

Personally I hate the away kit. The home kit resembles last seasons Juventus kit a little too much with the gold writing however it's class in my eyes. And the blue 3rd kit .. WOW ! =)
