Big surprise van Nistelrooy is out of the squad!!
Klaas Jan Huntelaar will be the new first striker for our national squad, also Mark van Bommel is gone.
New in the team: Urby Emanuelson (Ajax), Stijn Schaars (AZ), Nigel de Jong (HSV)
Personally I don't understand why Vennegoor of Hesselink is still in the game and Ruud isn't but van Basten must have his reasons for that
I'm happy for KJH though cause I know he will score many goals for us in the qualifications, the only concern is that he gets injured cause then Ajax will have a problem Van Basten should've brought him along to Germany to start with cause Huntelaar means goals, 1 chance is 1 goal simple as that..

Van Basten's biggest mistake was lack of Huntelaar in squad on WC. As you said he can get one chance and score the goal. When Bommel came to Barca he stopped progressing so I don't see any reason to keep him still in the team.

Because the midfield is already good with Sneijder, van der Vaart en van Basten says that the team he has now is good enough for this moment.
I'm sure Hedwiges will have many chances to play for Oranje but not against Rep of Ireland on wednesday.

It is only a friendly match, it's quite common now, a coach to try some new members implemented into the team.

btw, Huntelaar is certainly one of the great hopes for the Dutch NT in EURO 2008.

I tell you, Van Basten's gonna play Landzaat---Sneijder---Van Der Vaart. creative? yes, but we lack physical power. I would have never dropped van Bommel, even though he's never been very good for the Dutch NT, he's still better than Landzaat, who IMO is a very overrated player.

Van Nistelrooy being left out isnt a very big surprise actually. Huntelaar deserves his spot and van Nistelrooy isnt really a player who can come off the bench. I do understand why Van Basten chose VoH and Kuijt in stead of RvN. Kuijt can play on the wings too, he's multifunctional. Vennegoor of Hesselink is a target man, who can be important when we are trailing behind.

Stijn Schaars deserves a chance too btw Could take the role from Cocu.

Good for Huntelaar. But to axe Van Nistelrooy like that not so sure. I dont think Ruud can ever be content to come of the bench. That could be the major reason why. If the guy doesnt get regular football at Madrid because of Raul and Cassano then he want to move again.

It's not only about players who had a bad WC and Sneijder is one of the best on midfield even if he had a bad WC
The interest from AC Milan earlier this summer proved that but he said no to them.

Van Basten is looking for the future EURO and WC, not who is better right now. Seriously, Ruud is not doing that well RIGHT NOW, do you really think that he will be better or even the same when EURO 2008 comes around? I really doubt it, so why not give younger players like Huntelaar more experience, so that they will be fully ready for EURO's. Good decision imo. But now we will see, if Ruud is just simply on a decline or he isn't doing that well, because there was no Beckham for him.


Funny thing though, i think that Madrid could really benefit from Beckham + Ruud parthnership, because both of them will try really hard now to play together well and get back into their respective countries.

How can u be so sure he won't be called up again? I guess it depends on his perfomances with Madrid.

It could be well possible that he will be called up again in the future but right now there are 'better players' in that position according to Marco and that means he favors Huntelaar over Ruud right now.
Personally I can't think of any reason why he wouldn't be back in the future cause he's still relatively young and well....Ruud is Ruud and he's an excellent striker. Real Madrid will find that out soon enough.

i am optimistic. HOWEVER if he is left out of another team line up i would say that he is out for good.

But it is early days though... i will see what happens.
