So, ok, yea.

Mexico and the United States (and maybe Canada piggy backing with the US) bid for the World Cup.

Oh, the Champions League is in it's knockout phase:

QF 1: Houston (USA) v Atlante (MEX)
Leg 1 - Robertson Stadium, Houston (Feb 24)
Leg 2 - Estadio Andrés Quintana Roo, Cancún (Mar 3)

QF 2: Montreal (CAN) v Santos (MEX)
Leg 1 - Stade Olympique, Montreal (Feb 25)
Leg 2 - Estadio Corona, Torreón (Mar 5)

QF 3: Cruz Azul (MEX) v Pumas (MEX)
Leg 1 - Estadio Azul, Mexico City (Feb 25)
Leg 2 - Estadio Olímpico Universitario, Mexico City (Mar 4)

QF 4: Islanders (PUR) v Marathon (HON)
Leg 1 - Estadio Juan Ramón Loubriel, Bayamón (Feb 26)
Leg 2 - Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano, San Pedro Sula (Mar 4)

You know, it's possible, highly unlikely, but possible, that Montreal and Puerto Rico meet in the final. Which begs the question, would that cause a collective BigSoccer suicide?

Edit:

Seasons --
Canada
Costa Rica
El Salvador
Guatemala
Honduras
Mexico
Panama
USA (& Canada): MLS, USL, Cup

Its sad that we only have one American team in there..

But why would there be a mass suicide in there, Bobby??

It should cause a collective MLS HQ suicide. Should but wouldn't.

I think the MLS stance on the USL is "ignore it and it'll go away", except it won't. That league is plucky, it's far from glamorous but it has a lot of fight in it.

Can some Canadian tell me why the CSL champion doesn't qualify to the Canadian Championship? I know they'd most likely be soundly defeated, but they should still play some part.

well, the three teams set in stone to participate (EDIT: in the Canadian Champions League Qualifiers) play in leagues that are part of the "American Soccer Pyramid" ... the fact that the CSL is not part of that system may have something to do with it -- you know, written into the fine print of the Champions League agreement about how only Canadian teams from within the "ASP" could qualify ...

just a theory ...

Probably.

Another theory is that the CSA is in fact run by an actual orangutan in a business suit.

Montreal look set to sell out the Olympic Stadium for their match, awesome.

They're Northern America's most popular soccer team, they actually are.

Olympic Stadium? What happened to their soccer only ground?

Montreal 2-0 Santos Laguna.

Eddy Sobrango got both.

Incredibly scrappy but well deserved by Montreal.

USL > MLS

Puerto Rico Islanders made it to the CCL semis tonight. Houston got embarrassed in Mexico last night as expected.

Senior Squad
That's it. I've given up on the CONCACAF Champions League. If MLS clubs can't take it seriously, neither will I. I mean, look at the results:

New England: Words defy me as to how sh*t they were against that amateur club from Trinidad and Tobago.

Chivas USA: Didn't really try against Tauro.

DC United: Looked totally disinterested against Marathon, Cruz Azul, and Saprissa. Expect them to get their asses kicked by some bunch of Hatian nobodies in the qualifying round later this season.

Houston: Somehow advanced out of their group, but to tell ya the truth, they should have finished third behind Firpo.

Wow. Makes for some sorry-ass reading. That's what happens when you treat tournaments outside of MLS as nothing more than a joke. Shifty, hand me the barf bag, because I think my Dunkin Donuts Waffle Breakfast Sandwich is about to make a return voyage.

Montreal will actually have a tough task advancing tonight, Torreon isn't an easy place to play. They can do it though.

Montreal is winning in Mexico, 2-1.

Oswaldo Sanchez got injured.

4 (2) - 1 (0) on agg. to the Quebecois.

It's simply magical to see what Puerto Rico and Montreal have done, no matter what happens with MTL tonight. They're champions, and they've done their supporters very proud.

Get the Big O ready to hold 70,000+...

You gotta believe that CONCACAF is a little worried at the results though right? I mean how does it look when basically two second division sides have advanced all the way to your the semis?

edit: lol, or not, Santos came back and is somehow up 5-2 now even though it was 3-2 going into the 90th minute.

That is the worst meltdown I have ever seen in my life.

Were you watching? What did they do, bunker down with everybody and play some sort of disorganized defense for the last 5-10 min?
