This was a nice win and all, but it just made me more impatient for the August 12 game. That should be the game that I'll get excited about. Mexico did play a B minus or C US squad, and it showed after the second half. It was really weird seeing the contrast in two halves.

After Medina (who should never be called up again) left, the game turned around completely. Vela took over the game and made the US players look like amateurs when they had been really solid and composed in the first half.

To be honest, after the first half, I was expecting the game to be a really tight 1-0 or even going into extra time; it looked really closed off. Their defense looked pretty good sitting back and holding them then being dangerous on the counter. But after the goal, they totally collapsed. It was fun to watch, but my thought after the third goal was "what the hell happened to them?"

I really hope this means Gio and Carlos Vela get more call ups, because they play dangerous together. Too bad he was injured literally minutes into the tourney, because it would have been nice to watch him play.

Wow... glad I didn't stay up to watch the Gold Cup final (I'm in Bulgaria right now). To be honest, I wasn't all that surprised at the final score. What's more surprising is that this US team made it to the final to begin with. This was definitely our C-team (especially after Adu/Feilhaber/Davies left for Europe), and I'm proud of the boys for making it as far as they did. Either they overachieved, or CONCACAF is even more ****e than I previously believed.

DC United epic failness in the CCL once again. I just finished watching their game against Firpo, a team that shouldn't even have been in the competition but got invited after the team that originally qualified, failed to send in some filled out application form (welcome to CONCACAF!).

They were lucky to get a draw out of this game. At times Firpo looked very dangerous and threatened to score. DC had a few more chances in the latter stages of the game when Firpo players were tired (they are in pre-season) but were not able to capitalize.

There is no reason why one of the "top" MLS franchises shouldn't be able to get a win against an El Salvadorian side who is in pre-season. WTF MLS/GARBER??? Will you ever allow these squads a larger roster or will we forever have to endure pathetic results like this? I'm sure he's saying to himself "but the Fire are in the SuperLiga final!" yes, the most worthless tournament on planet Earth. CONCACAF finally gets their act together and organizes a system that SHOULD allow MLS clubs to be successful and instead they fell flat on their faces last season and are off to quite a start this season. I can't wait to see the display the Red Bulls will put on on Thursday.

I'm surprised at how empty the stadium was. Or was it just a bad angle. Here in Toronto, the game tomorrow is being treated like a major sporting match. Sold out too.

The reason i've never liked MLS (i live in cleveland) is that I dont see the teams as individuals... i see the whole league as one giant team that's crazed about keeping the bottom line ($) in order. Everything else is secondary. If they don't want to show passion about the game, why should i show passion to them? I'd love to root for a team, wether it be the crew or if cleveland gets a team but until this changes it's Manchester United and the EPL for me.

Passion?....EPL? (Sorry but that's like hearing "Oprah" and "Sexy" in the same sentence). I like the MLS (well, TFC and besides that just the Crew <awesome team and Schelotto is THE man>) BECAUSE of the fact that it is one of the few leagues left which has kept the "amateur spirit". The EPL has become a cesspool, the epidamy of the "modern football" monster: cut throat agents, desperate mercenaries (can't call them players anymore), passionless (and mostly mediocre after the big 4-5) millionaires, vomit inducing wages, vomit inducing prices to attend games (40 pounds = cheapest ticket???? no thanks), one sided, boring, predictable football.

Noooo...thank you. :bob:

Yeah players in the EPL have some huge wages, that's the game of football right now. Do you think they pay lionel messi peanuts in barcelona? Or perhaps kaka played for some toilet paper while at milan. It only has that "amateur feel" because it's been around for a short time compared to the others. The MLS would die for the kind of money being thrown around across the pond. I'm not saying the talent in MLS is terrible, because there have been some good players to come out of here... but confusing "amateur feel" with "passion" is foolish at best. You get what you pay for.

Hmm...You're right. Especially in a country like the US. Their main goal is to become what the EPL is one day and handle all those trillions of $$$.

But I also thought of another thing. The reason the "MLS" seems "passionate" is really because I watch Toronto FC. Going to those games, and even watching it on TV is just jaw dropping. But when i tune into other MLS games, it's like im watching 3 levels under USL. No interest, boring fans.

I think basically: TFC, DC United (way below TFC btw, as we saw by the empty stadium at the CONCACAF CL game), and maybe Seattle (fun to watch), are the only teams that make the MLS look like a really exciting league.
OH Columbus is good too. I like watching their games.

But , even though I agree with you on that.
I still find people supporting way more inferior leagues (fans/passion, etc), because it's local.
I think you can't appreciate it until Cleveland gets a team. It's no doubt the MLS is growing day by day. If they ever do, you might feel different focusing on one great team, rather than a barrage of mediocre ones.

I just reviewed many mls teams based on how exciting it is to watch.

- New York: Boring.
- Seattle Sounders: Exciting. Very good team and fans and seeing 50k packed stadiums (frequently) is amazing for the sport here.
- San Jose- Actually good. Loyal fans and usually packed.
- Real Salt Lake: Name's a joke. Fans are mediocre, even with a new stadium. boring.
- NE Revolution: Um...good. But kind of sub par. (doesnt compare worldwide).
- LA Galaxy: Good to see packed stadiums. Good, at best. (Team sucks, so that's prob why).
- Kansas Wizards: Terrible. Almost depressing to watch.
- Houston Dynamo- Nice little fan base. But nothing too special.
- FC Dallas :SAme as ^^
- Colombus Crew: Since getting SChelotto and winning the cup, have awesome fans. Always full. Great for the local league.
- Colorado Rapids: Meeeeh. Awesome jerseys. But the fans are dreadful.
- Chivas USA- Nothing special. The mexican aspect adds interest to it, but again...nothing special.
- Chicago Fire: Have their moments. All around solid.
- DC United- Great fans. Bring like 30-40k a game. But the stadium seems to big and kills the atmosphere.
- Toronto FC: Basically if the stadium was 15 k more, it would be EPL level that you're looking for. (It already is, but the stadium is small at 25k).

So all in all ,the MLS is basically like every league on earth. Some exciting teams, many smaller town , more boring teams.
Only 3 countries where the MAJORITY of the teams have passionate support seems to be: Germany, England and Argentina.

Yeah i'm in a "i'd love to love MLS" but i just need a reason. Perhaps a team in cleveland will do that but it's hard to imagine us getting one. If we did get one though i'd be talking smack and watching every game even if we were as bad as newcastle (Y)

another fantastic result for an MLS club in the CCL. They should automatically ban themsevles from future involvement in this tournament.

agreed. TFC had no excuse. Amazing , packed stadium, nearly the starting lineup.

We can come to 2 conclusions
Either
1- USL level is superior to MLS (somehow)
or
2- something else is making the MLS teams lose (tournament structure? date in year, roster limitations? (Apparently MLS has less players to work with than USL teams, according to the FSC announcer) :clapwap:

Puerto Rico has a bigger roster than Toronto, in fact, they have three bigger rosters than Toronto. The first team in USL-1, Bayamon FC in the Puerto Rico Soccer League, and "Islanders C" in a local division.

W Connection 2-2 New York

I know, New York sucks. But W Connection are 5th in the TT Pro League. Honestly.
