'Championship Manager 5' Revealed
Posted on Friday, January 30 @ 03:46:05 PST

In an interview with MCV, the UK's games trade mag, Ric Williams of Eidos Interactive reveals that North London-based Beautiful Game Studios is creating the latest Championship Manager title. BGS is a dedicated internal Eidos studio with 30 staff who have over 100 cumulative years development experience, and have previously worked on over 90 titles, 60 of which were football titles (thanks VE3D). Read more for details ...

Eidos, having lost the various scouts and statistician who helped create the player databases in Sports Interactive's previous CM games, has recruited an agency that provides information and statistics on players and clubs, as well as a "highly qualified" European coach who will act as a consultant on the game.

Interestingly, Eidos believes that the fanbase is loyal to the brand name rather than the game and Sports Interactive who created all previous Championship Manager titles. While Sports Interactive cannot discuss their new title due to contractual obligations, you can gain a first look at Championship Manager 5 by hitting up www.Championshipmanager.co.uk from February 1st, where information regarding the development team and game will be posted, as well as allowing fans to discuss the game on their official forums.

Here is Eidos' answer to SI's major announcement of upcoming major announcements (or did SI just react to the Eidos story really fast?) :p

Beautiful Game Studios
30 January, 2004

Eidos officially unveils its new internal development team - Beautiful Game Studios, who will be responsible for developing future versions of the market-leading Championship Manager football management game.

Beautiful Game Studios is currently developing Championship Manager 5, the next instalment in the series. The game will be released in autumn 2004 on PC. Beautiful Game Studios has recruited the services of an agency that specialises in providing player info and statistics to professional football clubs around the world. This database is used by many of the world's top football managers and coaches. Championship Manager 5 will use an even more detailed version of this database. As well as improving upon Championship Manager 03/04 by offering more accurate and objective data, the game will deliver a much more responsive experience, partly as a result of significantly reduced loading times.

Make sure you check out the official Championship Manager website www.championshipmanager.co.uk when it goes live on 1st February! It is the ultimate guide you need for the world of Championship Manager featuring news, articles, forums, interviews with the development team and much more.

Lets hope it's bug free (or almost) and a decent game to play at least, not something arcadish, like i'm thinking it will be...

I believe BGS will try to clone CM 03/04, and get rid of all the bugs. They will probably have to use a different interface, but not very different to 03/04. And they will have some ideas of their own, of course. A 3D-engine comes to mind, although I think they will not put that in unless they have a real good tactical base for it...

Well, if they do intend to put a 3d-engine, it could be a PES engine. Without slow motion problems, of course. Now, they're announcing the plans for CM5 or they're developing the game already, but in early stages? If it's the second option, we could make a CM5 wish thread i guess.. just a suggestion though.:)

dont; be stupid, they wont use a 3D engine. It sounds crap to me, and it most probably will be, i have a lot respect for BGS taking on the chalice, and i hope they do well. But i feel it will take em some time to get it right. Dont get me wrong the game will be good, but i feel SI's new managment game will knock the roof out of the managment game genre, i can see it being perfection to be quite honest. SI will almost certainly get the game out before Eidos aswell.

I hope one of the games is better than the other, i cant be arsed playing both. lol

Well, EIDOS would have to start from 0, the only thing they have is the name, and SI Games, have made a lot of improvement those last years and they would just make more improvements and try to take out the bugs. Also, about the 3d Engine, i'm not saying they should use the PES engine, i'm saying that if they were to, the best they could afford was the PES one. I totally in favour of the 2d one, it's good as it is. The 3d one would just make the game slower and we would have to probably watch a dark screen with Loading written on it...

no but they wont use a 3d engine, and if they did using the PES engine is about as likely as me playing for Liverpool. Eidos know that 3d engines arnt the way to go, they just do.

SI's manager will be amazing in my view, really really good.

For now it's called "New Football Game" or NFG for shorts. That's the working title every previous version after CM1 had.

The announcement on the 12th will have something about the name of the game. Either the name itself, or why the name has not yet been announced (that day, the 12th of february, that is).

hahaha, ou gotta see the SI community forums, trully hillarious. lol

But as Ruud says, NFG. Wouldnt it be funny if they called it now.

The team behind BGS seems to be built from people who worked on the UEFA manager and player manager series. Rumour has it, Eidos also purchased an existing engine from another footie manager developer. Best bet would be player manager, but I'm hoping USM :)
