Are you talking of Nicolas Frutos...? Ex-Independiente..? WOW...

Independiente still couldn't replace him...

Yes, Nicolas Frutos from Independiente, he rocks ATM. 9 goals in 10 games! Our manager is comming to Argentina this week to contact Leandro Somoza. It seems we had bought an option on him this winter to buy him this summer.

Could you give me some more info about Somoza? Weak points and strengths?

Back to the top of the table. :rockman:

Farias and Zapata, two of the players who had been massive disappointments before the arrival of Pasarella, with the goals.

Boca-Newell's ended 1-1, which was the ideal result for River. :rockman:

Newell's plays Rosario Central next in the Rosarino clasico, and Boca has play at Banfield. Hopefully they both drop more points and River can defeat Lanus. :jap:

I like Farias...he is our best striker since Cavenaghi...not many River strikers socred more than 30 goals in the last few years...

We are back where we belong... :rockman:

El Monumental is a Fortress again...18 points, 6 played there 6 wins, 16 goals score and only 3 conceded...the ''mighty'' Bombonera doesn't look so mighty now...And Macri dares to call El Monumental a freezer...? :jap:

I wonder how happy are now in Boca...? With the tie last sunday... :)

If it wasn't for his injury, Figueroa would've been our best striker since Cavenaghi. I have no doubts about that.

Farias is a decent player, but the superclasico aside, he hasn't scored any important goals for River. Most of his goals have been against small clubs. And let's not get into that dry spell he was in last year where he couldn't score to save his life.(N)

Instituto Cba. vs. Tiro Federal <-- Well nevermind...:boohoo:
Olimpo B.B. vs. Colón Sta. Fe
Boca Juniors vs. Banfield
Lanús vs. River Plate

It seems that it has been a good season for Maggiolo he scores 7 goals on the Apertura, considering he missed some matches, and now 6 goals so far.:rockman:

Apparently Independiente's stadium would not be suspended, and they would play the rest of the minutes against Banfield, unknown when however.

About Independiente's match, first of all, at times some own goals are accidents but Pautasso's own goal was terrible i can't believe a player like Pautasso can make an own goal like that.
Ustari man of the match he saved everything that came to him, except the own goal but he couldn't do anything there. Agüero and Armenteros the best of Independiente on the field, also good match of Fabro too bad he had to leave for an injury, although it was good because it seems that the team plays better when there are 2 strikers like Bustos Montoya and Miranda and Agüero together, although Falcioni admitted that he tried to play Agüero as an attack midfielder and didn't success, Armenteros can help him there and play with kind of a 4-2-4. On another match Falcioni should test that and use Biglia and Carrizo as central midfielders. It was a very entretaining match in the side of Colón, Tombolini and the peruvian Juan Vargas were the best.

On another matter, a team with a sad present, Argentino de Quilmes(rival of Quilmes AC, duh) will play the next season on the 5th division, it's one of the few teams that after playing on the first division went down that low(another example would be the legendary "Huracan de Corrientes"). Argentino de Quilmes one of the oldest clubs in Argentina has some bad records although, for example in 1935 got the worst campagin that a team ever made on the first division, of the 34 matches of the season(back then there was no Apertura and Clausura) they lost 30 and only drew 4, also got the worst campaign in the second division in 1959, in 1965 they become 2nd on the second division but for a change in the rules they aren't allowed to promote to the first division, and since they never returned to the first divison staying on the second division for a long while, and eventually going down, and in the last 3 years they went down 2 categories.

EDIT: About Leandro Somoza, he's a central midfielder that plays at Vélez Sarsfield as 99% of the players in that team he comes from the youth, he has done few goals but most(if not all) were from long distance shots, and were pretty good goals, he's good defending but i believe he's better attacking, although i may be wrong. It's said even that he could be playing the world cup or rather playing on the national team soon. They must consider that Vélez doesn't let their players go away so easily, specially Somoza who is one of the best players of the season, and a key player for Vélez. But then again being Vélez you never know maybe if he leaves a youth player will come that actually outplays Somoza.:jambo:

I wonder, what would be of Boca without injury time?

Lanús equalizes their best campaign ever winning 6 matches in a row, the last time they amde such was in 1996 when they became second, also that year they won the Copa Conmebol.

Not many changes on the average table, just Quilmes went 1 spot above Racing and Gimnasia J. is now under Rosario Central.

Manchester City seems to be interested on 2 players of the second division, Leandro Grimi from Huracan and Dario Parra from Chacarita Juniors.

And now about Independiente. Well there was a good plan, using the 3-5-2, but some things didn't work out, Agüero played way behind the forwards not the way it was supposed to be. Pautasso and Rojas evidently can't fill the spot of midfilders, however can't blame anyone there Armenteros and Machín are injuired, same with Lorgio Alvarez who should have played instead of Mendez. However of the poor play of Independiente, good work of the youths from the club, Ustari(yes he received 2 goals but he did pretty good besides that), Fabro(who once again had to leave due an injury), and specially the 2 young promises for Independiente, Bruno and Fredes. Now i don't get that minority of the supporters(notice that they were in the same place of the Leeb's incident) that insult Falcioni, i mean, he made his part, now the rest lies on the players. Speaking of Falcioni it seems that he won't be on Independiente next season, the main candidate to replace him seems to be Burruchaga.

Yes, i agree i think the responsability lies in the players now...

Last year the better condition of El Rojo was the pressure, but in other hand the players that did that are gone or below their level (Orteman, Pusineri and Biglia).

The intention of Falcioni was good...more company for Aguero and a numerous Midfield...

I still believe that Falcioni is the right coach for Independiente, now..

If Aguero, Biglia, Carrizo and Fabro return to their level, independiente will be back on track...

About Boca, i cant believe the things im hearing from the media...and from their players...They won in the minute 91 and they are talking of the great spirit they show with 9 players, the great performance of Ibarra, the bad referee, and so on...

First, Basile insult the linesman and the referee all the match...but not once but the entire game...i think Basile should worry abou his work, he depends on individual performances, the team has no identity, their defense is crap, Gago is more worry in looking good when he plays, and Palermo is a tree...

Ibarra is a great player, but not becouse he scored a fantastic goal in the last minute...and IMO Zanetti and Ponzio are better, not becouse im a River fan, but becouse they played most of the games of the season, Ibarra is always injured...BTW, if Ibarra is the best right wing from argentina (according to the media) becouse he scores great goals...i just wonder how many goals did Cafu (the best IMO) scored in his career...?

Lanus 4 - 1 River....

Well, i thought it would be a difficult match, but i didnt expect this. In the first Half we were 3-0 down...!!! But it was an even game...we had some oportunities with Higuain, Montenegro and Farias, but we didnt scored...they had 3 chances and they scored all of them...

We played like crap when we leave the Monumental... :kader:

But i still believe that we will mantain the lead...

According to some this will be our next star... :)

Well Palermo didn't so **** at Europe either, guess it may be a karma for some Boca players that are feed by the media and not by their play, which i expect may be happening to Palacio if he moves to Juventus like they say. Also notice once again the first goal of Boca, Palermo's shot was going wide if it wasn't for the defender it would have not been goal, just like it happened against Independiente in the apertura.

About Buonanote, i guess River is taking its time about him, i mean Buonanote has been sounding for a while now, i mean he hasn't played for the top team yet, and how many times has he been on the bench even? I guess River doesn't want another Toranzo case.

It seems that Anderlecht will be getting Cristian Leiva from Banfield, who is another good option for the place of Somoza, also has scored some long distance goals.

The end of Montero? Apparently Ruggeri suspended Paolo Montero for not showing up during a training session, Ruggeri suspended Montero for a week from the team training. A bit like that is the case of the youth Acosta, who said he couldn't train because his family was visiting him, but they caught him sleeping on the club house the day of the practice. It's doubtful if Montero will return to the trainings at all.

The other day Pekerman said that he would want to see playing for the national team, Somoza, Castromán, Biglia and Belluschi, but that there's no time and no more space.:o

Also what was Cantona doing at Boca's match?

It would seem that teams like Lanús need to win like that so the media realizes that they have potential.:boohoo:

River 3 - 1 Instituto

A little of Farias, a little of Zapata and Lux....nothing more.

We didnt play very well...but the individual quality of our players was enough to win the match...

Farias is in great form...he is the top scorer of the season 05/06, he score 120 goals and he is only 25 years old. He isnt 100% percent, he has a little problem in one of his knees, he should rest, but we need him, so...he is there, to respond...

Zapata, he is in River since 1999, he always plays, he runs the entire match, and now he shoots, WHAT A GREAT GOAL...!!! Ok, he isnt Berti or Solari, but he put a lot of spirit in the game...

We miss Fede Dominguez, Santana and Gallardo, but we still are in the top of the table.

Boca Juniors vs. Arsenal FC

Well the logic of the Clausura would say that River and Boca will lose their matches.:funny:

About Independiente's match. Definitively an improvement in the defense from the previous matches, it seems that Armenteros is getting back to his level, but he should try to use his right foot too.:p Once again good match of the youth Fabro and Bruno(who replaced Fabro). Agüero may have not done a lot but he did what he had to. In defense a good match of Abraham and maybe one of the best bolivian players right now, Lorgio Alvárez. I guess with the defense playing like this the 3-5-2 could work. Also got to add that Caceres didn't play this match who seemed to be the big wall in the defense but didn't have many troubles without him on this match, which is good. Also as Caceres wasn't playing, the captain of Independiente was Ustari.:o

Racing's troubles outside the pitch. The president of Blanquiceleste S.A.(the eterprise that amanges Racing Club), Fernando Marín, who got Simeone to retire and supported him to become the new coach, will retire from Blanquiceleste, Now some guy De Tomasso will be in charge of Blanquiceleste thus will also be in charge of Racing, apparently this guy doesn't like Simeone, and he will bring "Mostaza" Merlo as Racing's coach the coming season, Merlo would have already accepted the job. However, in the worst of the scenarios, what would happen if Racing gets relegated? Would Merlo agree?

The last match is supposed to be played on May 14th, however i don't know if like the 2 top teams should play a final if it would be played the 17th or after the world cup, same thing with the promotion/relegation play-offs.

Guess Cristian Leiva would be more compatible with Armenteros than Somoza since, Somoza and Leiva play in the same position, however maybe they would be a good dual in the midfield, Leiva like Somoza has scored some long distance shots.

Also it seems that there wouldn't be changes in the format of the second division like some were suggesting to. Teams like Huracan were complaining about money wasted on travels, when it's AFA who páys the travels for the teams and AFA has stated that the 2nd division isn't even the tournament that costs the most of the money, so if they lose money it's their fault, plus that they only think of money instead of the quality of the league. Also could be used as an excuse that the teams of Buenos Aires are losing space on the national level. For those that don't know what that means. Here is kind of how the 5 divisions of Argentina work.

As you can see after the second division it splits into a "Metropolitan" third division and an "Inner" third division, the amount of teams that gets relegated and promoted from each league is the same, 1 directly and 1 plays the play-off from each one. But actually in the second division there are 11 teams from the "inner" and 9 from the "metropolitan", this could be because like teams from the metropolitan get promoted to the first division but then teams from the inner go back to the 2nd division. For example Arsenal, Banfield and Quilmes who got promoted like 3/4 seasons ago and didn't go back to the second division unlike some inner teams like, Talleres Cba., Huracan TA and more likely will Tiro Federal and Instituto Cba. guess there is why the different amount of teams, because if you see the teams of the first division then you see that you have 16 "metropolitan" teams and only 4 "inner teams".
So they suggested using a double league format for the second division with 30 or 32 teams(instead of the single one with 20 like right now) with 15/16 teams each one from the same zone, the problem here is that the longest travel that the metropolitan teams would do is only 300km but then in the inner you would have teams like Juventud Antoniana from Salta woukd still have to travel 3500km to play CAI from Comodoro Rivadvia, in top of that it would quite lose the meaning of "national tournament". So it seems that the 2nd division will remain the same as it's now. However something that didn't talk about and i guess they should reconsider in AFA instead of splitting the other divisions in 2 they should make them national wide too, using the format of the inner ones, for example "Torneo Argentino B" has 49 teams, and they are in 7 groups of 7 maybe they could do kind of the same with more teams in the same division.:jambo:

San Lorenzo 0 - 0 River Plate

Ok, we tied...almost lost. Two ways of seeing this tie.

Glass Half Empty:

With our best players, we didnt had possesion of the ball. Didnt shoot more than 2 times against SL. And now we are 2 points under Boca. We have 2 away games left, and we didnt won since that match against Tiro Federal.

Glass Half Full:

Lux was the best player, when SL goal was inminent, he saved us. Gallardo, Fede Dominguez and Augusto Fernandez will return in the next couple of weeks. We have an easy calendar (Argentinos, Gimnasia, Racing and Quilmes). This was our worst game and we tie, we are only 2 points under Boca (they still have to play against Velez and Independiente and Estudiantes).

We arent Gimnasia...

German Lux

If it wasn't for him, the game could have ended 4 or 5-0. He was spectacular. It's been a long time since I've seen him play so well. I hope Pekerman was watching.

Although we didn't get full points, I consider the point we got an earned point rather than 2 points lost, because we didn't deserve it. San Lorenzo played their best game of the tournament and deserved to win.

With that said, Boca may have a 2 point lead but I'm confident that if Velez fields a full line-up next weekend in el Fortin, they'll at least get a draw. Then Boca have the game vs Aguero-dependiente (:fool:) and hopefully Aguero single handedly crushes them like he's done to many teams this year.

Vamo Riverrrrrrrr :rockman:
