That throw by Thorkildsen in the javelin was great.

Glad the Norwegian women's handball team won, they have been playing really well, became a fan while watching one of their group matches.

Yeah, over 90 meters. Awesome. And he looks so calm.

Our handball-girls are incredible. We all love them. They did well to play out Russia today. :D

Belarus got 18 medals, same as Canada and 1 more gold then the Canucks. I'm pretty stocked :D . Plus Canada did better than expected, so that's good.

Actually, I was wondering if someone could explain it to me. I never watched Olympics boxing, and the couple of matches I saw left me befuddled. Fighters were landing shots to the head left and right. Many were direct shots that were not defended at all, but were given no points. How does this work?

3 of the 5 judges have to hit a keypad that awards a point, but they have to hit the key within ONE second of the punch for the point to count.

Oh, and I have a question. American basketball player Becky Hammon has taken a ton of heat for playing as a Russian, she plays for CSKA in the WNBA offseason and has recently acquired a Russian passport. Despite Becky's status as America's second best female basketball player, and best female guard (a fact verified by her being runner up in MVP voting) the US Women's national team had never shown her any interest until she applied for Russian citizenship (she did that so she wouldn't count as a non-Russian at CSKA, a team that pays her $2m this contract). Becky refused her US call-up saying it was "too little, too late" and she was immediately branded a traitor.

In 2004, 18 Americans played baseball at the Olympics. The USA didn't qualify for baseball in 2004, those 18 players represented Greece. It was their first time in Greece, but their great-grandfather may have been born their. They aren't Greek, I don't care where some guy who died long before they were conceived was born, they're as American as Becky Hammon and they received positive press.

Becky has actually handled the situation very well and has shown a cool head, she said "God loves Russia just as much as he loves America" which incensed some hyper-patriots here.

My question is, why is Becky Hammon a traitor and the baseball players media darlings?

yeah, i think that pretty much sums it up perfectly. You can't be a true american and represent a big bad red bear.

As well as for other events like Gymnastics, Diving and anything with judges.

And I still think those Chinese girls are way under 16.

Can't really think like that... not the 50s anymore. I believe it should be different for each person. I don't agree with Becky's decision, even though she was given a raw deal. She should have been on the U.S. team, but she wanted to play in the Olympics, and this was a kind of loophole. If she had grown up in Russia though, had close family ties to the country or something, then I think it would be okay. She spent most of her life in the U.S., and just because she recently played/plays for a Russian club team does not really justify her wearing that country's colors. Olympics are a time to represent your country with your heart, not your ambitions, no matter how heartfelt they are.

Bobby, thanks for the explanation. Absolute ****e scoring though... terrible.

Update - US men's team wins gold. AWESOME game vs Spain, glad I stayed up. If the Spanish could have played any defense, they would have won. But, US just has terrific firepower. For god's sake, Dwayne Wade learned how to shoot. Once that happened, no way of stopping them. Even though Dwight Howard tried. I swear, that man must have nightmares about free throws. Rudy is going to kick ass in the NBA. Those 3s off the dribble were ******* sexual.

Can't compare apples and oranges. The difference in baseball and basketball in terms of popularity in the olympics is vast. For god's sake, they're getting rid of baseball... The american players are all playing in the minor leagues of baseball clubs. I guarantee nobody here has EVER heard of any of those players. They are all prospects for major league teams. The U.S. women's basketball team is one of the most dominant and high profile teams in their sport in the olympics. They have won 33 straight olympic games.

Becky Hammon is a great great player. Her decision stunned not only people that like basketball, but also every patriotic american with her comments. Put all that together and it was a pretty big ripple effect that many people noticed. I guarantee you if this was some scrub that barely played in the WNBA, you would never had heard this story come up. Maybe, just maybe in passing, in between Michael Phelps and the men's Basketball team.

Unfortunately, people care about winning and putting the "best" players to win for the country. Becky did something unspeakable. She chose another country over the "greatness" that is the United States. I remember watching sportcenter, and some other women on the U.S. team were saying how this is more motivation, how they were going to pound the russians, how this was an insult and so on...

Only an idiot would go so far as to crucify her. Her decision might not be popular, but it's hers. How much have you heard reported on baseball in these olympics? Zip. Squadoosh. Nada. Outside of Latin America and a growing interest in China, Japan in the only other real "power" in baseball. Nobody will raise stink about a sport that a minority of people care about.

Lets say Ryan Howard or Chase Utley decide to play for.... Belarus or something though, and I guarantee that all hell breaks loose.

But that's not the point how popular the athletes are. They made the same decision, but you are saying because Becky is so much more popular she did the wrong thing, while the baseball team was a bunch of semi-pros so it's ok, nobody cares about them anyway? I'm pretty sure that had Becky played for Great Britain instead of Russia, Americans would have had a few weeps here and there, but mostly would probably just talk about how it was their fault. Maybe not, but definietly wouldn't be so much fuss about it.

Have you not read the news for the past 2 weeks? The Empire is back and they are ready to strike the Center of Universe's Goodness straight into their heart.

People are allowed to play for nations they weren't born in if they're citizens of that nation. What's the difference between Hammon playing for Russia and Liukin competing for the USA? They're all citizens of the country they're competing for, and really, if someone wants to become a citizen of another country, for whatever reason, and that country accepts them as citizens, I don't see a problem at all.

No no no sorry you misunderstand. English is my second language so if something doesn't come across right I apologize. I'm saying that higher profile athletes get more scrutiny. We are not ones to judge what is wrong and what is right. In MY opinion, her decision was selfish, but justified. Bobby asked why Becky was crucified while the baseball team was given a free pass. I tried to explain that it's because one sport is huge and in the spotlight, and the other is being kicked out of the olympics. Guess which one people will pay more attention to. I don't agree with it by any means, I just tried to explain why the situation turned out like it did. I hope this clears it up a bit.

The goalkeeper Haraldesn is awesome, she played well throughout the tournament.

Huge respect to her, i remember the group match against Angola when she took the ball straight in the face when Angola had a penalty, she got up and got on with it and played well.
