Some personal consideration about the new fifa 2007 formats:
The first very positive surprise is about the ai settings of the new incoming fifa: just in the first lines I discover that in Fifa 2007 we will have reduced field size, just how together with Fifaccitiu here at CEP we did during this summer: instead of the old 6450 x 4300 field size we have now a 5760 x 3840: CEP 2.0 introduced for first a 5300.0 x 3890 size, so you can imagine how much we are satisfied about this decision of EA. A great beginning, indeed.
Following the analysis of the new settings I noticed new "DFK" settings: strings related to ball spin that, I think will be the core of the new promised ball physics: these new physics are tuned by dozens of new ball behaviour settings, so at least we can be sure that EA really studied new solutions for this aspect of the game. There some more new strings about shooting with very detailed commented description so I'm sure that tuning the gameplay will be more interesting this year. There new difficulty parameters too, about aerial contrast, "transition" pressure (maybe EA took some advices from Mourinho
) and these too seem very interesting. Good surprises from ai then, we'll have to check how all this works in game.
Let's pass to the gui elements: Minikits are absolutely the same, and this is a very good new for conversion tasks, same for Logos and Flags. Kit format is different: the new format allows more detail and sleeves (no more blur league logos) but a bit less detail on fron shirt too, while it introduces a new system for captain band that is a an external element inside the fsh (an 8x8 pixel square), different from the kit fsh itself: this is indeed interesting, but will present surely some incovenience for a fast conversion of the kits: I doubt that a fsh without this 8x8 external element will work in game..
The last consideration are about the database, that represents an evolution of the fifa 2006 db: much more generical faces, for first: there are about 150, and much more shoes by default too: about 50. Many career settings and tables have been moved or created inside the db, as for cpu approaches, offers, expectations, loaned players list, player xp growth (yeah, looks like there are a bit of "rpg elements" in fifa this year
), team prestige (that changes during the season) and, most interesting of all, a new table related to "youth accademy": most probably we'll have to let grow young talents in our club and this is indeed a very interesting addon in the career modality. The playerwrite (name, surname, development, contract, birthyear) and the players (stats info) tables have been unified, and this is very useful for a good editing: players have now new 0-100 statistics: Passing has been divided in Shortpassing/Longpassing, there is Finishing, Reactions (a non-gk version of Reflexes), GKDiving for goalies and Freekicks ability. Players have now very interesting unique semi-rpg attributes: i.e. being inflexible, capacity of identification in the club, prone to scandal (!!), mediadarlin, low training work etc. etc.: VERY interesting and a very great idea. Players now have a learningspeed and a playing style that has to be discovered together with an international reputation.
The structure of the tournaments seems almost the same, there is a new goodie about the name shown on the players shirts that now can be setted as you want (for example GIO for Giovanni Van Bronkhost etc.), the new settings of the teams are very interesting too because you can set the amount of the initial budget of the team: finally you can have very good teams, for example the south american ones, that anyway doesn't have a good budget. There is a new division between the international and the domestic prestige too. On the overall we can without doubts affirm that EA REALLY did something to improve its game and to offer something new: only playing we'll discover if this work already gave its fruits: personally I'm very optimistic about the 2007 incarnation of Fifa.
