Paris Saint Germain coach Laurent Fournier is refusing to get carried away.

PSG romped to a 4-1 success over Metz on Friday evening, as they opened the season in great style.

"Considering the result, it is nice," said Fournier.

"Everyone has started well, even if we are not perfectly fit. Even in the game, it was not outstanding. However, we showed a big determination. We have to be more aggressive in the midfield in the future."

Fournier tried to play down the hype surrounding Bonaventure Kalou, who scored one and set the other three up.

"What Kalou did in that match, is because everyone gave his best. It is the team that allowed him to be at his best," he said.

"Starting the season with such a victory at Parc des Princes is nice, but we don't have to get inflamed. There is still a lot of work to do."

For the first time in years PSG has taken the lead of the league.

Very nice and pleasant game from Paris. It has been a long time since the Parc des Princes saw such a team, irresistible when playing offensively, with such players like Kalou, Rothen, Dhorasoo... Except from a few moments when PSG wasn't focused, everything in this team looks veeery promising.

I just hope that Ljuboja will stay in Paris and regain his place in the first team. He could really help us on a lot of games.

Ligue 1 round-up

Paris Saint Germain and Bordeaux continued their unbeaten starts to the new Ligue 1 campaign with wins on Saturday.

PSG remain top of the table on goal difference after Edouard Cisse's second half strike gave the French capital club a 1-0 victory at Sochaux.

Bordeaux followed suit with a 1-0 win of their own against promoted Nancy at Stade Chaban-Delmas.

Moroccan international Marouane Chamakh's early strike gave Les Girondins a second successive victory.

Nice recorded their first win of the new season after a 2-0 success at Toulouse, with Bakari Kone (17) and a Sammy Traore penalty (29) proving decisive at Stadium Municipal.

Jacques Santini's Auxerre also earned their first win with a 2-0 away result over ten-man Monaco.

Philippe Violeau gave the visitors the lead on 26 minutes before the home side had Patrice Evra sent off for serious foul play just before the break.

Auxerre secured the points in the Principality when Luigi Pieroni found the scoresheet in the latter stages.

Lille left it late to earn a 3-3 draw with Ajaccio in Corsica.

Romain Rocchi gave the home side the lead on 12 minutes before Lille levelled seven minutes later through Jean Makoun.

Waldir Lucas Pereira made it 2-1 for the home side on 27 minutes but Daniel Gygax made sure both sides were level at the break.

Ajaccio took the lead for the third time through Rafik Saifi on 65 minutes but Mathieu Debuchy earned the Northern French club a point with a last minute strike.

In the early Saturday kick-off, Lens recorded their first win of the new season after a 2-0 victory over winless Marseille at Stade Felix-Bollaert.

Seydou Keita gave the home side a half time lead before Brazilian defender Vitorino Hilton doubled their advantage just after the hour mark.

Promoted Troyes held St Etienne to a goalless draw at Stade de L'Aube, with both sides having made it two draws each to start the new season.

Finally, Le Mans earned their first point since winning promotion themselves after a goalless stalemate at Metz.

Ligue 1 Week 3

Paris Saint-Germain will be confident of extending their perfect start to the campaign with a third victory against Toulouse at the Parc des Princes on Saturday.


If the performance in last weekend’s 1-0 win at Sochaux was not as spectacular as that against Metz in Week 1, Laurent Fournier’s side proved they have fighting qualities as well as talented forwards. While Bonaventure Kalou and Vikash Dhorasoo have added technical excellence to the team, Czech defender David Rozehnal has added solidity alongside Mario Yepes at centre-back.


The new signings seem to have instilled fresh belief into the side, while new skipper Pedro Pauleta is commanding the respect of his teammates – something his predecessor Jose-Pierre Fanfan did not always manage.


“I’m honoured to be captain of PSG,” Pauleta said this week. “I have taken on the same responsibility at international level, and I was skipper when I was at Bordeaux. I have no problems with the role, even if my job is relatively easy when the team is winning.”


Pauleta has not yet got on the scoresheet, with midfielder Edouard Cissé surprisingly the club’s top scorer after netting in both matches so far. Cissé brilliantly rounded the last Sochaux defender before scoring on Saturday, and he admits he even surprised himself. “When I saw my goal against Sochaux I said ‘that’s too much, it can’t be me.’ It looks like I beat the defender by accident,” the 27-year-old smiled.


Toulouse began the season full of optimism after some shrewd summer acquisitions, but last weekend’s 2-0 home defeat by Nice has somewhat dented their confidence. Nevertheless, TFC Coach Erik Mombaerts knows that a shock win in the capital would see his side draw level with PSG on six points and could be the perfect way to get back on track.


Mombaerts may hand a first start to Bryan Bergougnoux, the former Lyon forward who was the subject of interest from PSG last season. The France Under-21 star looked lively after coming off the bench in the second half against Nice, and could provide support to strike-pair Santos and Daniel Moriera.

Paris Saint-Germain stormed to the top of the table with their third win in three games against ten-man Toulouse. Pedro Pauleta scored both goals in the 2-0 triumph.

After notching wins against Metz and Strasbourg, PSG duly dealt with Toulouse in the sunny capital on Saturday afternoon and now sit pretty atop the Ligue 1 standings with nine points from a possible nine.


They did not have it all their own way in the opening stages, as Toulouse posed a series of threats on the counterattack. A lovely interchange between Albin Ebondo and Daniel Moreira caused some panic in the home defence on 10 minutes, but Mario Yepes did enough to put Moreira off as he shot.


PSG nonetheless enjoyed most of the possession and carved out their first opening three minutes later, Pauleta feeding Bonaventure Kalou, only for the Ivory Coast forward to shoot well wide from long range.


Kalou then sent Jérôme Rothen free on the left and, after skating past Ebondo, the France winger crossed for Pauleta who failed to get a touch. The ball reached Vikash Dhorasoo at the far post and the midfielder should have done better than screw his shot wide of the upright.


The pressure became more intense and Toulouse eventually cracked on 30 minutes. Bryan Bergougnoux’s reckless two-footed tackle on Kalou resulted in a straight red card, leaving the visitors up against it and ensuring that the France Under-21 star’s first start for his new club ended in miserable fashion.


Toulouse regrouped but fell behind a minute before the break. Achille Emana was off the pitch receiving treatment – meaning Toulouse were down to nine men – when Rothen broke free and saw his stinging shot parried by Christophe Revault, the goalkeeper making his 300th Ligue 1 appearance. PSG skipper Pauleta was on hand to rifle home.


The Parc des Princes was in celebratory mood and they enjoyed some super football from the buoyant home team after the break.


The outstanding Kalou went close to doubling the score when his low shot grazed Revault’s post, but Pauleta made the points safe on 62 minutes with his second of the night and the season.


Modeste M’Bami slipped the pass forward and Pauleta took advantage of some hesitant defending to slide the ball past Revault.


The Toulouse ‘keeper denied Edouard Cissé and then Pauleta with a brilliant double save moments later, as PSG turned on the style.


Revault helped keep the score respectable for Toulouse, notably denying Dhorasoo with a brilliant tip round the post, but PSG will be satisfied with their evening’s work.

Leaders Paris Saint-Germain travel to Troyes’ Stade de l’Aube on Sunday looking to maintain their 100% start to the season.


Laurent Fournier’s men have three wins from three so far, scoring seven goals and conceding just one in accounting for Metz, Sochaux and Toulouse.


Fournier has aligned an identical starting XI for each of his side’s opening matches, but may be forced into a change this week after captain Pedro Pauleta and succumbed to a troublesome calf strain late on in PSG’s 2-0 win over Toulouse at the Parc des Princes.


With Uruguayan striker Carlos Bueno’s transfer from Penarol being investigated by FIFA and both Serbian Danijel Ljuboja and Nigerian Bartholomew Ogbeche frozen out by Fournier, the capital club’s striking options appear suddenly limited.


Makeshift forward Fabrice Pancrate or France Under-19 European Champion Franck Dja Djédjé could both make their season debut’s in the starting line-up.


For their part, last season’s Ligue 2 top scorers Troyes have made a more than promising return to the top flight.


Fresh from last weekend’s upset 2-1 win over Lille, maintained Troyes’ undefeated start to the season and Coach Jean-Marc Furlan has reason to believe his side can produce another upset in Week 4.


In-form striker Stéphane Dallet earned a penalty and scored the winner against Lille and he is ably supported by a five-man midfield featuring talented youngsters Benjamin Nivet, Sébastien Grax and skilful Serbian Branko Boskovic, on-loan from… PSG.

Ten-man Paris Saint-Germain lost their 100 percent record after drawing 1-1 at Troyes on Sunday, but returned to the top of the table all the same.

Pedro Pauleta claimed his 100th Ligue 1 goal to give PSG a 36th-minute lead, but Sébastien Dallet struck for Troyes after the break, and when Edouard Cissé was sent off shortly afterwards the visitors seemed happy to settle for a share of the spoils.

The capital club now have 10 points from four games and are above Lyon on goal difference, while Troyes are ninth with six points.

Troyes started the game well, with their midfielders gaining the upper hand on their more illustrious opponents. They could have taken the lead as early as the fifth minute when Benjamin Nivet slipped Sébastien Grax through but the striker, on loan from Monaco, was denied by the onrushing Lionel Letizi.

PSG slowly fought their way back into the match and looked on course for a club record fourth consecutive win from the start of the season when Pauleta scored nine minutes before the break. Released through the middle by Bernard Mendy’s pass, the Portuguese hitman showed his class by dinking a superb finish over Ronan Le Crom.

With PSG looking to soak up the pressure after the break, Troyes regained the initiative and levelled matters four minutes in. Alexandre Dujeux whisked over an inviting cross, and Dallet rocketed the ball home with a splendid diving header.

Cissé then received his marching orders seven minutes later and, though Troyes made some efforts to push on for winner, they did not possess the firepower necessary to break down a solid PSG defence.



Paris Saint-Germain skipper Pedro Pauleta was left feeling frustrated despite scoring his 100th Ligue 1 goal against Troyes on Sunday.

The Portuguese ace gave PSG the lead in Champagne country, but they had to settle for a point after conceding a second-half goal then losing Edouard Cissé to a red card.

“One hundred is a pretty figure and it’s important for me,” said the 32-year-old.

“I hope to keep on scoring goals but I would have preferred to win.”

Pauleta was particularly frustrated that his 54th-minutes effort was ruled out for offside.

“I scored a goal that wasn’t offside,” he insisted. “That’s the second one that has been incorrectly ruled out this season. But that’s football.”

The point takes the capital club to the top of the table, ahead of Lyon on goal difference, and Pauleta added: “Troyes played well, but we didn’t help ourselves by making a bad start to the second half.

“After the dismissal of Cissé it became very difficult for us. It’s good that we held on for a point because it’s vital to pick up points away from home.

“But I have to admit, we didn’t play that well,” he added.

Pauleta’s 100 goals came in just over five seasons. He arrived in France in 2000, spending three years at Bordeaux before joining PSG in 2003.

Paris Saint-Germain Coach Laurent Fournier will be looking for a positive reaction from his players after they experienced their first setback of the new season away to Troyes last weekend.


Pedro Pauleta netted his 100th goal in France and thought he had number 101 ruled out for a dubious offside decision, but newly-promoted outfit Troyes dominated for long periods and were well worth their point in the end.


They still have a 100% home record of course, and with the atmosphere at the Parc des Princes so much healthier than it was for most of last year, Nice could be in for trouble. Especially considering they have not won in the capital since the 1994-95 campaign.


Edouard Cissé is suspended for the hosts, though, and Nice have been fairly solid since the season got underway. Their sole defeat – at home to Sochaux – was generally considered a travesty of justice, and midfielder Florent Balmont subsequently had his name cleared following a ridiculous sending-off. He was back for the 1-1 draw at home to Nantes at the weekend, a game Nice could easily have won were it not for a series of excellent saves from Mickaël Landreau.

Nice came from behind to upset 10-man Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes on Saturday thanks to goals from Sammy Traoré and Mamadou Bagayoko.


A full house was on hand to celebrate PSG’s 35th birthday and Portuguese hitman Pedro Pauleta got the party going as early as the first minute when he headed home Jérôme Rothen’s quickly taken free-kick.


That was as good as it got for Laurent Fournier’s players who failed to make the most of their chances in a dominant first-half display.


Ivory Coast playmaker Bonaventure drew a fine save from Nice ‘keeper Damien Gregorini before seeing a 20m drive ricochet off the crossbar as the home side rode a wave of confidence.


However, Nice refused to give in and, in former-Lorient livewire Bakari Koné, the visitors always looked dangerous on the counterattack.


The Côte d’Azur outfit made the Parisians pay for their generosity in front of goal in a stellar second half performance.


Traoré’s near-post header, on 72 minutes, was deflected into his own net by the hapless David Rozehnal to bring the side’s level.


PSG were unable to break down Frédéric Antonetti’s well-organised side and when Koné stripped Mario Yepes of possession on the halfway line, Bagayoko profited to beat Lionel Letizi from six yards out with just a minute left on the clock.


PSG’s nightmare was completed deep into stoppage time at the end of the match when Sylvain Armand was shown the red card for bringing down Koné as the diminutive striker raced to the edge of the area.


The victory lifts Nice to eight points on the ladder, just two behind PSG, who remain top on goal difference from Lyon who have a match in hand.

The vice president of the Uruguayan FA (son of Penarol's president) flew to FIFA and actually got them to turn around their decision on letting Cebolla Rodriguez and Bueno play for PSG.

In turn, PSG is pretty much VERY angry at this (Bueno was big prospect).

I know that PSG have no fault in taking Penarol's players. It was the manager Paco Casal who stole them so I'm glad he's getting what he deserves that ******* ****.

Justice in FIFA? Something must have gone wrong over there.
I hope Bueno comes back and ends up getting sold to 5th Division Pakistan.

What happened was that both players were worth alot (they're good...I gotta admit they have future potential in Europe).

Monaco offered like 6 Million Euros for Bueno and Cebolla 6 months ago but Penarol said no. So PSG said they were interested but Paco Casal (Italy's fave south American agent :funny: <inside joke: He's pretty much best friends with the president of Inter/Milan/Juve for "non legal" reasons>

Anyways, he convinced Bueno and Cebolla that they could be dead rich but both had 2-3 years left in contract (something around that). The time was now to go. So Bueno and Cebolla said they wouldn't play anymore and wanted a better contract.
The contract offered was "not good enough" (they were going to reject it no matter what)............and hope Penarol would sell them.

They didn't and instead both players rebelled against the club (didnt play but were still owned by Penarol).

After 6 months, they just got up and left with Casal to an extremely happy PSG (they didnt care how they got there just as long as they did).

Penarol was pissed and got the backup of ALL of South America and the Vice president of FIFA............but somehow FIFA let them Play (obvious Politics since there is NO WAY that Bueno and Cebolla would be allowed to play.
It's like Man U stealing Monaco's best players with better contracts while they were still signed to Monaco.............there's no protection to the "smaller" (in wealth) clubs.


Long story short (and it was pretty long ). Penarol went to Europe and now FIFA decided to not allow Bueno/Cebolla to play anymore. So now PSG are pissed....but we have to see how it goes down.

It's funny cause Bueno and Cebolla did all but sing "Na Na Na NA NaNA!" and dance at the TV making fun of Penarol's president as they were interviewed in France. You should have seen their faces when the news came.

Dunno why, but the opponent players are realy agressive on Rothen. Anyway, he is a real plus for the team, almost unstoppable on his left wing, always dangerous, it's too bad we don't have someone like him on the right wing
