PE3 Vs Fifa2004 ----ultimate review

have bought both pes3 and fifa2004 and played both religiously for the past few days and this is my review

Graphics

pes3 -9
fifa2004-9.5

The graphics on pes3 are much arcade style the players seem larger than life....both games are awsome graphics but fifa clinches it as the faces, bodies the way theey move are much more detailed and realistic

Sound and Atmoshpere

pes3 - 6.5
fifa2004 - 9

Very Very Very disopointed with the sounds on pes3 ...when u get a goal away there is silence (isnt there such a thing as away fans!!!) even when u score a crucial goal at home there is not passion in the crowed .when u give a penalty away it is like nothing is wrong and yet silence again.....All is oppositte to fifa2004 ...all goal, challenges and celebrations are acompanied by an awsome sound and crowed jeering....awsome

Goal , Freekicks , penalties

pes3 - 5
fifa2004 - 8

Fifa is much improved in the way you can score by rangin a mixture of close range shots with flukey 25 yarder attempteds ..the power bar is awsomely created to achieve the correct power and the new freekicks are incredible....But on pes3 the slightest tap of the shoot button could send ur ball over the stadium..freekicks are also very basic and there is no fun in scoring....the only way u can score is penalty area and is very dissopointing

Range and depth

pes3 - 8
fifa2004 - 9

I feel both have improved from there parents especially fifa....which has all new nationwide leagues , training and all new transfer options ....on pes 3 there is a 4th master league division and new transfer options...It depends wat u like...but i give fifa a 9 as it has updated it immensly and with new nationwide league the fun never ends!!! it also makes a huge differnece with all real names and official competions on fifa

Gameplay

pes3 - 7
fifa2004 - 8

with all new off the ball option fifa 2004 has blown us away with this ....it runs super smooth too...the level of ur team really shows if ur playing a much poorer or better teamwith ur skill , sprint and passing ...also the goal range is very good....The only reason pes3 got a good mark for its lob through balls...with this it makes the game more enjoyable but the defence are very very very tight on pes3 and the goal range isnt good at all...

Overall

pes3 - 7
fifa2004 - 9

I feel both have improved but fifa is deffinatly the football game to have ....awsome in all asspects of the game and a huge range of options and games to have..fifa has all real names, colours and competions unlike pes3 and an extra cost of a 10 pund disc to update it isnt worth it....fifa2004 ....truely amazing

I think you could have save a lot of typing if you just say:
"I am a very fanatic FIFA-fan and I do not even try to judge PES objective" :)

You don't have a clue about what you 're talking about, right?
Let me give you one.

Pro Evolution Soccer 3--10/10 perfect score Playstation 2 Official Magazine UK

Fifa sucks bigtime. I played the demo (with the plug-in for 20min halfs, resolution settings, speed and difficulty setting) a million times. You haven't played Pro Evo once, thet's my guess.
I have Fifa 98,99,2000,2001(PS2,PC),2002 (PS2,PC), 2002 World Cup and 2003 (PC,XBOX) and I also had PES1. I have had many footy games (ISS,ISS 2000-nintendo 64, Uefa Champions Leauge 99/00 , Microsoft International Soccer, Uefa Cl 00/01-PC, ISS2-XBOX) and I know what I'm talking about.
It's so obvious that you haven't even seen Pro Evo... Gameplay 7? Atmosphere 6.5????!!!!!!!

Dude I'm so gonna download the PES demo! I 'm sick and tired of fifa. The only reason I kept buying them was because they had tho monopoly on PC. But that's over now!!!
The server is allways full but I'm gonna wait and get it.

Pretty List of games Fairplay....But seeing as ur greek or whatever i wont even acknoledge ur exsistence....and i bought PES3 at 10am Friday morning (the first shop opens on the day of its release) ....i bought it and played it.....it did nothing for me and it is very very basic compared to the skills and stratagies of fifa2004...So if you're are basic player who scores basic goals and plays basic boring games....It whatever floats your boat

Oh please! This proves without doubt that either:
(1) You are under 10 years old; or
(2) You have never touched PES3

People leave the FIFA series to play PES/WE because of limited gameplay not the other way around. How many people do you have come to the FIFA boards saying "well, I used to play Konami games but then I saw the light and played FIFA"? It's the other way around. You are so devoid of objectivity it's funny!

Even most of the hardcore FIFA fans on here have said at some stage that if PES/WE had all the leagues, players and accurate uniforms then they would leave FIFA behind.

The problem is with your post that it will convince nobody over the age of 10 or anybody who has GENUINELY played PES3/WE7.

What a joke! Thanks for making me laugh.

yep wolf, this "Ultimate" review made me laugh.

but now im starting to realize that some people actually love fifa. Even if they have played pes.
The thing is that some people just love to play an easy to pick up and simple soccer game like fifa. Pes3 is much harder and has much more depth than fifa, some people are scared away by this. So we have to respect the ultimate review by Nottm_Forest and see it as his hounest opinion.

Well... I'm pretty new to this forum but i'll add my 2 cents anyways.. Come on guys let's face it - PES3 is much more complex and realistic than FIFA as far as the gamplay is concerned. I have been a long time FIFA user on PC until i had a chance to download the PES3 PC demo and play/learn it for a few days. And guess what, no regrets, it totally blew me away - this game rocks and as a result i can't play the FIFA 2004 demo anymore...

In Fifa 2004, you just have a few moves you can do, VERY limited in term of how you can control the ball, drible, pass and shoot. On the other hand, PES3 has so much depth, that you have to "learn" how to play it...

I can understand that some people in this forum are still sticked to FIFA has they do not want the complexity and freedom that PES3 has to offer. That's okay, as long as they enjoy playing it. For me, it's totally clear: i was looking for a game on PC that had enough realism and complexity to be as much challenging as possible and as much close to the real Soccer sport (btw i'm a long time soccer player) as possible. I'm glad that i found this game, and it's definitely called PES3. Can't wait until the final version is released - great job Konami!

my thoughts, PES3 and fifa seem pretty good this year. I used to play fifa from fifa'96 onwards. I only started playing pes2 about a year ago on a psx emulator, and after a while found out that i liked it better than fifa 2002 at that time, despite of the crappy graphics and the funny names.

Pes3 and fifa2004 can't really be compared. Ok , they are both soccergames, but the gameplay is totally different. I hated fifa2003, tried the demo , never bought it after that.

Fifa2004 looks slightly better than pes3 (stadiums, player faces), but maybe it's a little too scripted, pes3 looks and plays great finding out new things all the time when i play.

I guess i get them both. It's not impossible for a fifa-fan to like PES or vice versa. Maybe if Konami and easports teamed up they could create the Ultimate football game!!! (but i guess from playing the demo pes3 is pretty close to that....

Yo! So did EA Sports fix this bug:
i) 3 English teams (Liverpool, MU, Chelsea for my case) were drawn in the same group at 2nd group stage of Championship League!!???
They need to understand Universal football rules before they design the game man!

i played the fifa 2k4 (extended) demo and the pes3 (leaked) demo and i must say that although i've always preferred Fifa in the past, PES3 outguns Fifa 2K4 in every department.

First up, the graphics on Fifa are pathetic, i don't know what standards the people saying the graphics are great have, but i own pretty much every PC game released in the past couple of years, and the graphics on Fifa 2k4 look easily two years out of date. Low res textures, awful colouring (white hands on black people??), and the only in-game 'cut scenes' are scripted and repeated over and over again. In comparison, the graphics on PES3 are superb. Each player is amazingly detailed, down to their teeth and the creases in their clothes. OK so they don't look like the people they're supposed to be in some cases, but that's also the case with Fifa so i'll over look that. The cut scenes are also rendered with the game engine and represent the actual situation on the pitch at that time, so you don't suddenly get your central defender contesting a free kick in the opponent's half like always happens on Fifa. One last thing on the gameplay.. as ever, it's too easy to score on Fifa 2k4 and too hard to score on PES3!! One day we will have parity!

Sound wise, again i would give the nod to PES3, although it may be unfair to do so at this stage, as the 34mb demo for Fifa probably had a lot of the sounds removed. I still hate the silence you get when the away team score on Fifa, and the lack of build up sound was also evident. PES3 however sounded very nice, with the crowd getting noisier as you get closer to goal, and going wild when you put the ball in the net. On 1280x1024 though every time a new sound started, the game would halve in speed for a few seconds which is something that needs attention.

Gameplay wise, both are better than their last outings, but again i'd have to say PES3 is better. Fifa has the new off the ball control which i don't really think much of, it's just EA's way of saying 'we can't do AI, do it yourself' but other than that, the controls are a lot smoother and more intuitive than last year. PES3's controls are a joy, although i didn't fully master all the combinations of buttons, i still managed to spray passes around, slot through balls into my forwards, play in crosses (where i wanted them) and on the whole, play a decent game of football. I can imagine that once i learn all the tricks, flicks and one-two's, it would only improve the experience.

Performance wise, both games are a little poor. I had to play PES3 in 1024x768 in order to get it to play smoothly, and this is on a pretty powerful PC; but even in this low res it still looked really good. On the downside, all the 'cut scenes' played as if they were in slow motion, and i get the feeling that wasn't intended. The menu's were also a problem, as i couldnt get the cursor to move in some of them, or if it did move, it went up or down by about 3 items each time; but hopefully this is a bug that will be fixed for the final version. Fifa ran ok in 1280x1024, but the cut scenes and flyovers were jerky, and the graphics still looked really poor, with heavy jaggies especially evident on the stadium.

Anyway, my final verdict would be:

PES3 - 8.5/10 - would be 9 or 9.5 if the performance issues weren't there.

FIFA 2K4 - 6.5/10 - the appalling graphics turn this into a second rate game. If the graphics were better i would give this 7.5/10 but PES3 would still come out on top.
