Learn all about PES 2014′s new engine and features!

Working for more than four years on the new instalment of the PES series, the PES Production team has revealed the whole new system behind Pro Evolution Soccer 2014. Based on Kojima Productions’ Fox Engine, the game will feature new amazing graphics to recreate the excitement and variety of a top-level football match.

PES 2014 is based on six key elements that will define the physics and the features of the game:

TrueBall Tech: For the first time in a football simulation, PES 2014 will centre everything on the ball: how it moves, and how players use it. Physics of the ball, stature of the player, speed and height of the pass,… everything will be taken into account to recreate the most realistic football experience on a home system.

Motion Animation Stability System (M.A.S.S.): The players will also be an important part of the game with M.A.S.S. that will increase the realism of physical contacts between players, tackles and decisions taken on the pitch by the AI to have more open games while playing PES.

Heart: Football is all about emotions and the support of the fans will now have an influence on the performance of the team, cheering and acting as the “twelfth man”. On the pitch, the performance of an individual player, good or bad, will also have an effect on the team, giving them a moral boost if he has a moment of individual brilliance; or forcing his teammates to support him if he is not doing well.

PES ID: Introduced in PES 2013, the Player ID system recreated faithfully the movements and skills of about 50 star players. In PES 2014, that number will increase greatly and will also apply to complete squads to replicate a team’s playing style.

Team Play: With the new Combination Plan, our users will be able set up a variety of different tactics in key areas of the pitch using three or more players. These players will make very different runs to exploit holes in the defence or midfield, using the flanks, curved runs, or overlapping play to make themselves available.

The Core: One of the biggest changes will be visual thanks to the new engine. Movements of the players, details of the kits, facial expression, stadiums,… everything will imitate reality. The flow of the match will also be improved with no more cut scenes after specific events. Finally, our fans will see changes concerning free kicks and penalties with more reaction from the defence and a more natural feeling.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 will also feature for the first time the Asian Champions League with new officially licensed clubs. Other tournaments and online elements will be part of the game but will be announced shortly.

is the new engine only for better graphics?
Well, I hope and believe its not so. PES is few years in front of FIFA in terms of gameplay (Even though we could discuss a lot about PES gameplay flaws), but gameplay mechanics are on FIFA side (Impact Engine). Fox Engine will be huge boost in graphics terms, that's for sure, we saw it in the new MGS - Ground Zeroes, but how will it compete with FIFA's Impact Engine, which showed great capabilities and will be improved even more in further time, is beyond me. We really didn't saw anything what Fox can provide as football simulation.

Also, I dont belive KONAMI will use Fox for better graphics only, as in PES 2013 they implemented completely new features which gave huge bonus to the gameplay. With that I mean on Player ID and individuality it provides, alongside with ProActive AI, Dynamic First Touch, Response Defending etc. If they implement and expand these features (What I believe they will), FIFA will have to do significant changes with their game.

There are not any news yet, but I'm excited about what will be next revealed.

funny how Pes will use Metal Gear Solid engine and now FIFA will use Frostbite 3 engine from Battlefield 4
But apparently both games will be cool

Barycentre Physics and Ball control

The new engine allows for a larger separation between player and ball - three time the radius of PES 2013, where tight 'confrontation' zones are used to make tackling easier. A striker will be able to throw his body weight in one direction and use his opposing foot to push the ball in the other way, leaving defenders off balance and buying space for a pass or shot.
You'll be able to control your player's weight shifts at all times and use practice touches to push the ball away from your feet. We see a wireframe demo with more natural animations and fluid transitions than FIFA 13. You control the player and the physics drives the animation, not vice versa. It's hard to tell how this will transform the 'feel' of play, rather than just being admirable behind the scenes calculations, but there appears to be scope for a radical new control scheme - think of how Skate's right-stick motions mimicked real-life movements by exploiting dynamic physics, and how they compared to the digital button taps of Tony Hawks Pro Skater. This could be a revelation in football game control.

Contact and Physicality

Konami has pinpointed this as a weakness in previous games, but now players can jostle for space - even without the ball present - for headers at corners, or to dominate a smaller opponent.
You'll be able to tug shirts (cloth is now separate from the player's body and stretches) as well as elbow for room on the touchline. It works in tandem with the physics and precision control. Agile players can unbalance defenders with dropped shoulders or ball skills, and push the ball further ahead to exploit their acceleration. "Previously, body feints were more aesthetic," admits Masuda. "Now they're a key tactic."

Squad Emulator

Formations remain essential for success, but now you can set 'zones of play' so your key players focus on certain tactics in mission-critical areas. For example, you can set your front line to focus on possession and probing for gaps in from of a deep-lying defence. In theory, you'll be able to recognise your favourite teams pattern of play within a few minutes. The emphasis on defending and shape should allow weaker teams to create effective strategies, such as when Celtic beat Barcelona in the Champions League by defending deep, buoyed up by the home crowd.

All of those sound good to me.

Fox Big Question

If I'm not mistaken in judging, the teaser is somewhat similar to that seen in KONAMI's video: PES 4 Intro
& now the teaser comes with a lot of progress, but if the latest gameplay will adapting this graphic models, it will be something revolutionary for PES 2014. The presence of fox engine in PES 2014 is still in big question, however, the existence of KONAMI's commitment to change the game is totally worth to be given appreciation.

Agree, but IMO, only graphics improvement with FOX wouldn't be revolutionary if gameplay mechanics and other well known problems stays the same.
