I thought it was a beach ball! One of those promotional beach balls made like a soccer ball!
Then again, the collision mapping in the FIFA games is so bad you probably need a ball that big to make it look like the players are making some kind of remote contact with the ball. Watching replays of fouls is funny because you can miss the player by yards and it still registers as a foul. Same thing when you watch goal replays. Watch the player make contact with the ball and there's either a delay before the ball actually leaves his foot or the ball leaves his foot before he's even followed through with the shot.

I know. FIFA fans go on about the great graphics but the only time you see then is during the cutscenes and replays. When you actually play the game the graphics are as bad as they were 3 or 4 years ago. If you play in almost first person (I think it's called 'Action') mode you can see better graphics but then the game is unplayable. Also they jerk about like robots because the animation is so terrible.
