PES4 (PC) impressions thread

Well, it looks like I'm just crap at this.
Now continueing ML with barca and default players. Loosing match after match without any chances. Every time CPU defender comes near my default crapster, he either falls down or stops fighting. CPU oftenly just pushes them away with their superior body balance and speed. 1-2 and triangle passes aren't too effective for me too. Most of promissing passes gets intercepted.

Any hints on how you play and succeed in Pes4 would be warmly accepted. I'm trying everything, attacking, defensive-counterattacking, balanced football, but nothing seem to work. And most of my shots goes miles wide or straight at keeper.
CPU scores lot from one-on-one situations. No matter how defensive I play, having 5 defenders all dragged back and set to behave strictly defensively, couple of defensive middlefielders, nothing helps me to avoid perfect CPU runs and at least 2-3 one-on-ones with my keeper per game.

My complains are about the referee.
I play on 4 stars ML with my brother and the CPU team s makes a lot of ******* fouls and the referee don't give them anytinhg in the best way i've receive free kick.
But very very rare they show yellow card.

And on oposite side every our foul against CPU is strictly punished.

I'm not happy at all.
Cause when i play against other human this not happened only against CPU team and with more stars more corrupt referee.

My impressions on the game so far:

- Dribbling does seem a little bit harder but that's good because now it requires more skill to go past players. I also like the new R2 move i.e. when you're running down the wing, let go of the directional pad and press R2... the player will stop as if to change direction, then you have a choice of changing direction or continuing with your run... when used properly it can really fool defenders.
Also check out tapping R2 quickly in a standing position.

- The CPU attacking AI seems much better now. I have to work much harder in defence now to make sure their strikers don't find a way through. In PES3 I usually have no problems keeping clean sheets with minimum defensive effort.

- The overall pace of the game does seem a bit too fast. But I found that with the likes of Totti and Del Piero in my team (with the right formation and tactics) I can still manage to play the type of game I prefer, which is slow buildup with lots of passes, shielding the ball from defenders etc.. and then find that killer pass or cross.

- Crosses are a major improvement in PES4 IMO. The double-tap cross was almost useless in PES3 (unless you're crossing from just inside the penalty area) but now it's much more effective and you have more control on where you want your cross to go.

- Through passes a bit too accurate for my liking, I think I'll find this to be an annoying problem especially when I'm playing with my mates. In PES3 if someone is no good at build up play and just relies on hit-and-hope through passes then they'll find it much easier in PES4. Where's the skill in that?
A better solution IMO is to introduce a power bar to the through pass button and make it less assisted i.e. more manual. Something like FIFA, I think that's one of the VERY few things that they got spot on.

- Apart from the "freezing goalie" bug, I think keeper movement and animations are much better than in PES3. Some of the saves I've seen look amazingly real and un-scripted if you know what i mean.

Overall a much better game than PES3 although I admit I was expecting a bit more.

PES3 - Refferes to stupid and to hard.

PES4 - The refferes are to nice and you never get a red card, even if tackling form behind?

I played so many games in the demo now. I got one red card after getting two yellows and the comp got a straight red when the goalie fouled me when dribbling him.

I got a red card directly for tackling from behind (last defender tackles attacker), and got a yellow (and penalty) because my keeper sweept attacker with his hands while trying to get the ball from his feet.
I think the referee is much better than in pes3. It has some stupid decisions, but rarely. Maybe you just need to play more.

I honestly feel that people complaining r whining over PES 4

Overall gameplay is better...its like u have more control over gameplay...AI smarter...u cant just run down wings as u like...dribbling better...shooting way better u can now do long rangers i did twice yesterday from 30-35 with Abelda and Exteberria...

So gameplay smoother...u have more control...more challenges...get real now cause PES 4 is...i think its alot more enjoyable than PES 3...i have only played demo and i have slowdown, waves and tearing problems

I totally agree. I play with five stars and the computer can do anything they want. Although the fouls aren't all that bad it is a normal policy for refs to give yellow cards for repeated fouls. Now it's normal that cpu makes 10 or more fouls and there's not a single yellow card. Towards me the refs line is quite ranging. Sometimes I get a yellow for each foul (fouls are quite bad though ) and sometimes even I can make fouls and get away with it. I once got the feeling that the best way to stop the cpu´s attack is to make a deliberate foul. I hope a patch can correct this.

Second error is the goalkeeper who stands still when a poor long range shot goes in. Also it is too easy to go round the keeper when one on one. Much easier than in PES 3.

But the overall feeling in this game is magnificent. It's good that the game is hard. I won the International Cup with Germany after losing to Poland 5-0 in the group stage. It's great that you can sometimes win easily (like the IC final against Argentina which I won 5-0) and then you can get destroyed by a mediocre team cause every team loses sometimes. PES 4 is the best football game I've ever played. Maybe PES 5 will take it's place in the future...

i can't wait for the real kits for all teams

Been playing Master League alot of hours now, and I'm tired of it. The beginning players are way to clumsy to dribble and to make anything enjoyable, it leaves me with a bad taste.

Going to have some fun and play PES3 master league.

Ok, I played some more and now I take back my word about dribbling. It's fine and now you actually see the differnece between good, medicore and bad dribblers. First touch seems too clumsy though.
But now it's another one. My ultimate problem in Pes4 is scoreing goals. It's a huge problem. I can live with the fact that CPU team will usually score at least one or two goals per match. They got those one-on-one situations in every match, no matter how hard I defend. It would be fine if I could score myself.
Now, if I play some intrnational tournament and other cup with strong team like Holland or such, it's still chalenging even against minos, but I thinkit's realistic. Just like in real world cup tournament. What I'm concerned about, is that 80% of goals I score are either headers or oenalties.
I don't get it, how do you actually score your usual goal by just kicking the ball. Most of my shots goes stright through the middle of the goal in hands of keeper or wide of the net. Also the shots are quite weak usually.
After all these days playing I've scored only two goals from outside the box. And goals which I scored by kicking the ball, though they went in, they usually went through the middle of the goal.
Can anyone give me some hint what is the best way to score long/midle ranged goals? How long do you squeez the shoot button? What direstions you hold while shooting? Maybe my accuracy is bad because I should've use analog stick(I use gamepad).
Usually I have a lot of chances in match, but, because of this poor finishing I loose match by 0-1 quite often. Especially in master league.
I'm interested, what formations and tactics do you guys use for default ML players. It's so hard to get anything right with them now, MUCH harder than in Pes3 where I could dominate even Real Madrid when using them.
Oh, and the last one. I can't find the youth players in ML transfer pool. Where are they? Or I should just by any young player make star out of him?

First of all not being able to score goals is a great thing...i remember a certain gamne from a crapcompany where u could score 8 goals per match...so dont complain

In order to score long rangers...my guess is u have to get rid of any opposition from ur body...fill up the bar 3/4 and try to aim...i scored one (five star) by pulling back analog stick back after the bar was 3/4...im only playing demo so i cant save...may be i could have with fraps?!?...i must say it looked stunning and fantastic...btw ur not gonna score long rangers with people like Kahn, Barthez etc...

Give it a try Gnidy and im sure that in a few days u will think PES 4 is way better than PES 3!! :Bow:

This game rocks...

I Just started of my first Master league containing the default Master League players, Minanda, Castollo, Vornander and so on!

I have a lot of troubles with 5 star now. I really have to struggle to get a goal.. Every time I score I bald my fist and cheer, can't remember doing that in FIFA . I have played my first 4 matches in ML, was able to win only 1 with 1-0. Lost one and had two draws.

Scoring is tought, managed to score a few long rang shots in exibition, which all were very realistic.. I did use the shooting techniek which " Joker " mentions. Did this in training, amazing shot this is... The player really moves cool with this shot...

The variatie of moves of players is amazing. The way they fall, pass, dribble and shoot.. So Fecking Cool...



Haven't tried the online mode jet, will do this soon..
