pes5 demo first impressions

My 2 cents

The game 'feels' much better than PES4 and is more realistic (it's a bit slower). I like the fact that there's plenty of ball possession losses (especially in the midfield area), again much more realistic. Plenty of little stuff have been twicked in the right direction. The goalkeeper is not perfect, but that's an improvement...

Anyway, I like it better than PES 4, so here's the list of things that still bug me:
- the CPU does plenty of fauls within the penalty area that are never sanctionned, including the very obvious I PUSH YOU AND YOU FALL (I hate this one, it should disapear). Now I understand, there were too many penalties in PES4, but this aspect of the game is just real annoying.

- It is now nearly impossible to have a player dribble or do an acceleration that can lead to a clean possession. It's an all passing game. That's nice, but frankly it's getting boring (now, maybe with lesser powerful teams, there might be a difference there). As it's been noted, even top wingers managed to be caught back by defenders...

- Still no straigth red cards for obvious fauls (last defender, harsh tackle - not that the CPU would do it anyway)... That's pissing me off when you manage for once to have a stricker getting away, being tackled by the last defender, and all you get is a lousy free kick... :kader:

Other than that, I really hope that the ML has been improved and that you can really play championships with two or more divisions in each on them... Obviously, my dream here is to have a semi-management game where you can take a minuscule team and rise it to the top... I also really hope the transfer system is improved and that you get money from other sources than just wining matches (wining cups, attendance, sponsorship...) the current system is just way to stupid.

This last element will be critical to me buying the game. I won't just by a freshened version of PES4.

Haha glob, all of the things you mentioned - I expirience every time I play :D

I get a lot of penaltys, I manage to get a lot of red cards when tripping the CPU from behind, and most important: I can easily get away with Pires and Vicente on the wings

And I forgot the still to be improved player management when close to the lines (stopping trying getting the ball when it goes off at your advantage - and still protecting the ball)

And the throw in - when the CPU has the ball - suck as you cannot press its players...

Anyway, overall rating of the demo: it sucks
I have played long enough now, gone back to PES 4 and I prefer the older version... :ewan:

I found it supurb. the animation of the players are better, the through ball is not as bad as it sounds considering the players and teams in the demo. chelsea always use the wings and always have space, as do arsenal.

the goalkeepers have improveds too.

i just played the fifa06 demo and played one half. beating bayern 8 - 0 all shots from range. and pes5 i still have on after a week of playing it. show's how much better it is.

the range of one touch moves you can do are amazing too. and they have improved what moves players can do. my rating 10/10 or for the people who are going to complain then 9/10

too many people compare games to real life...dont. compare them to the alternatives that are out :)

MY 1ST EARLY IMPRESSIONS ARE THAT IT'S JUST A PATCHED VERSION OF pes4 (WHICH IS NO BAD THING, although would have preferred more evolvement)
Seen no options yet for AA which is a fcking joke tbh (thank god for rad link)
Menus/presentation are still far inferior to Fifa
Fouls are too easy to give away too
And still no excuse for not having the proper licenses

/edit I judged thsi too early, like the old checstnut "the more u put in the more u get out" is true

Game is really drawing me in now.

Well i sat down with my 2 sons last night (aged 24,21) and gave the 2 player mode a good 4 hour workout, 10 minute games, winner stays on, it was superb, plenty of jumping out of seats, telling the ref what they thought of him, runs around the room with shirt front pulled over heads after scoring, PES5 demo is a good game in single mode, but playing player v player, made the game even better, my eldest son won the title of King of pes for the night with a winning streak of 6, look forward to a return leg :)

Excellent goal variety, but Konami stilll hasn't worked on the goalkeeper animations (ie. all dives are 2 handed....that's one area I have to say FIFA excels)
You are wrong, keepers also DO 1 handed saves, has happened twice to me now.

Hi,

First played the demo 1 week ago  .

OMFG this is a big improvement. The midfield game has been implemented which i think lacked in previous versions. Nobody can run down wings without playing the ball around. Dribbling is difficult but after a little bit of practice it is possible to dribble and shield the ball. Shooting has improved too. Holy crap i shot a canonball in the nets with Gravesen (after 8 games where he was shooting the ball to the moon i finally hit a blast on the post and goal). Now u cant score long rangers by trapping the keeper out the goal. I simply love it and will give it a good go despite of all the physical training i have ahead of me! I guess the days in ML on 6* with scores like 12-0 r definately over. I praise the Lor...*cough* KONAMI!

PS and btw ohhhhh yes he is back stronger and more evil than before! :taz:

I doubt it. My highest score so far is Arsenal 10 Real Madrid 1 in a 30 minute 5 star game

Any significant differences between the first demo, and the new - "With Speech" one (not the fan-patched versions of the first demo, the second official from Konami) ?

yes the second is scheduled better! More playable, now dribbling with R2 is more controllable, and all the gameplay is more smooth...I think Konami has optimized the graphic engine for pc plattform, I remember you that this game is a total porting from PS2...
