PES7 Or Whatever There Going To call It

Does anyone know or have the heard anything about it, Konami need to break away from this assisted passing and free up the game with power bar passing on the normal passing button, not right and analog stick and other button.

I don't know , but looking at it and playing game after game after game. The deflections of ball off of my players and cpu players seem very scripted and not free.

I am a pes fan, and no way is FIFA a patch on it. But I played FIFA07 and one good point was the ball was as they called it free from the animation. when the ball hit a player any player, it was so life like the way the ball broke. Nothing like in pes, now if FIFA can have that sort of ball physics then why can PES.

After 4 years of PES I am now getting a bit frustrated, with the same plays game in game out.

If they put in manual non assisted passing, you would be free to pass to whoever you wanted, not as now, in a great position to press pass and lay the ball back to an oncoming player only to see your player turn and pass to his fellow striker who is marked and has no chance of a strike on goal.

If its going to be more of the same again , with only a few tweaks in gameplay then I will have to think long and hard about buying another PES.

i know what you mean about the ball physics on Fifa 07, that and the presentation are the two area where it beats PES 6, and I think it's time Konami did something about it..

I think making the menus and OSD's look nicer is an absolute must, the low res fonts and borders look like something from a megadrive game..

presentation is all well and good , just I could do without. Last years show was it E06? anyway the one where everyone shows off there new games and consoles.

I don't know if it was just a PS3 thing, but it showed old motion capture v this new one , can't remember the name of it. Anyhow, it showed a basketball player animation with the old motion capture (PS2) and how his feet would Skate (we have all seen this in PES) and the player turning was discribed as only being in 8 directions "stages/angles". Side by side with this demo was the new motion capture, the player lifted and planted his feet while moving and turning, no more Skating. And with this lifting and planting of his feet he could turn in a true circle, also had a mouse pointer and this moved over his shoulder and round and back over his other shoulder. The players head/neck twisted to follow the pointer and round to catch the pointer coming back on the other side.

They said at the time , this new motion capture would revolutionise sports games, as the players would have true movement no longer the 8 angle turn of the old montion capture, aided by the player on screen being able to lift and plant both feet.

This is what I'm looking for from Konami, that plus manual button power bar passing button, and like the ball in FIFA true deflections and not the ball as it would seem in PES tied to the animation.

Good graphics , ? yes , but that doesn't really matter. What does, is to have the ability to pass the ball where ever you want on the field. And the balls flight and distance being down to the way your player is facing and how much power you put into the ball.

Yes, I know there is a manual power pass in the game, but it is to awkward to use with any great degree of accuracy. I can't speak for everyone, but my right thumb is for pushing my gamepads buttons (logitech Remote Rumble Pad) and not trying to hit a manual pass with my right thumb on the right analog stick and my wrist twisted so I can bring my index finger round to try and press either button x y or z which are alined above button A B and C on my pad. That finger is usually wrapped round the right hand grip of my pad or clicking R1 or the R2 shoulder button.

Taking out the assisted passing and replacing it with manual unassisted passing would free up the gameplay and make the game even more like the real thing.

Not having a cpu team that has the ball breaking to them at every turn, and your tackles making the ball break by physics and not scripted and a host of others. Would this make the game easy against cpu team, probably! But what games you would have human v human online or at home.

Is pes good the way it is , mmm? yes! best football game out there by a mile.

But just imagine the moves and passes and goals, if the passing was not assisted by the cpu and you were free to pass it to the player you want. Ok not every pass would make it, but the joy of seeing a player on a run and you hitting the pass button and sliding a sqaure ball to him to strike on goal, and not as now, taking up the position and seeing the run and press the pass button, only for the cpu to make your player turn to face into the box and hit the pass to the player the cpu picks for you. Usually surrounded by 2 or 3 cpu defenders.

Game play first all the other stuff , on PS3 Xbox360 and the most powerful of them all a PC would follow anyway.

The power that these new consoles provide PC's a given, have handed games makers the ability to reproduce (in this case) a football game as close to real life as it gets.

please Konami, don't throw this opportunity away.

Here are e few ideas for the new PES

New commentators and better commentary. Peter Brackley and Trevor Brooking are poor choices; some better known commentators would be preferable. Record more phrases and stop the commentators interrupting and contradicting each other.

Be able to choose who comes up for corners/free kicks , John Terry never ever scores in PES6

Longer replays. Be able to watch the whole game on a replay, but when you save a goal you get all the build up play.

More balls to play with. Some are only unlocked after they have been bought from the PES Shop. Different choices in colours as well.

More individual chants for players or teams.

Only very occasionally, a massive row breaks out after a red card. When a player is sent off in a big match, all the fans begin booing and all the players gather round the referee. Everyone is pushing each other and the commentators go wild.

Be able to see the players on the bench. When you go on replay, or during a game, you get to see the players you have on the substitute’s bench with a vest over their kit.

Mad celebrations for late winners/equalisers or big games with all the fans and players going crazy along with the commentators.

Have visible linesman on-screen, to make it more realistic.

Players swap shirts at the end of the match.

National Anthems for a few National sides.

Occasionally when the ball goes out of play, show a replay from earlier in the game. After a close miss, show the replay later on in the match.

Goal alerts from other important games whilst playing, and the crowd responds for the result of the other game.

Teams get songs played when they score. After a goal is scored, the team song is played.

Players look up before crossing into the box. This will make it look more realistic to real life.

Players protesting for decisions. Even when it is not offside, a foul, a corner kick or any other decision, the players wave their hands about and shout at the referee.

Players getting booked for simulation diving or other offences that aren't fouls.

Captains kissing their armband after they score, or after their team win a match/tournament.

During a game when it’s raining, if a player falls show mud stains

Show where grass has worn away at the Goals + Centre Circle.

Make the fans 3D not like 2D cardboard cut-outs.

After a goal is scored have an announcer say the players name & number .

My wishlist :

- Bury the old and crappy Master League once and forever and introduce a solid career mode where you can choose your club, play the competition they're in and battle for promotion/relegation and Champions League/UEFA cup places. Even Sensible World of Soccer had that already 12(!) years ago!

- It would be a major break through in football games if we could be able to manual pass and shoot. It's hard to implement though especially considering playing with keyboard or a simple gamepad (limited to 8 directions) But with some creativity this could be done.

- More control over goalkeepers! I want to throw the ball when I want that, not 4 seconds later. Goalkicks are also very limited right now, it's almost impossible to choose the direction yourself and you always kick at full strength. Why not have a power-bar here?

- There should be a button reserved to interact with your teammates. For example, when attacking, you press a button which makes the nearest team-mate run forward. Hold it too long and he'll run offside, but when you time it right you can build-up the attack nicely. And the other way around for defense, then your team-mate should run back. In defense you could even have more options since you don't have the ball, so you have more buttons available. Example : Button 1=Nearest teammate starts chasing the opponent (like it is now in PES with the shoot-button), Button 2=Nearest teammate starts running back (possibly overriding the offside-trap, but better chance to stop any opponents that come through), Button 3=Nearest teammate tries the offside-trap. Maybe it's a solution to all those frustrating moments where your teammates just stand and watch.

- Better collision detection. Still we see legs sticking through other legs or bodyparts... it shouldn't be that hard to model a player and have an accurate collision box around all the body parts? Same goes for the goalies who are often walking through the goalpost or the net

- More detailed tactics where you can make a list of 5 set-piece takers for corners, freekicks and penalties. And the set-piece takers should be based on the players themselves, not the positions like it is now in PES. There should also be an option who comes up front with attacking corners and free-kicks.

- Get rid of those slots for savegames, replays, kits, logos etc. Saving slots are from the times of the Playstation 1... it's 2007 now so there shouldn't be any limits longer. Also the limit of 6 highlights after every game is ridiculous. They hardly take any memory!

- More different sounds for passes and shots, right now it really sounds silly with the same old sound for every single pass you make. Same goes for the goalpost deflections, a 30 yard screamer that hits the post sounds the same as a slow and rolling shot against the post...

- The ability to see the match statistics at any time during the game. It's crazy you have to wait for half-time or full-time for that. Actually there should be generally more info before and during the game in the Master League, like the actual standings, previous meetings, 1st leg result when playing the 2nd leg, a list over who's injured or suspended for both teams and much more. Also between the matches it should be much easier to access the top-goalscorer list, assist leaders, best average rating, most man-of-the-match, most cards etc.

- Some specific features for the PC version like mouse support in menus, anti-aliasing (it's about freaking time PES get that too) and a User Interface that's scalable with the resolution that's being used, instead of a crappy low-res menu with big-ass ugly fonts. And all the things Kitserver does, should have been done by Konami ofcourse, like wide-screen aspect ratio fix, LOD settings, crowd fix etc. Oh yes, and fix the ever-lasting 60hz issue!!! In other words, Konami should spend more time porting it from the console to the PC version.

Just my 2 cents.. could probably come up with much more but can't be bothered right now :mexican:

I think this is the most true statement I've ever seen a n00b write (H)

I personally think it's pathetic that for one, defenders don't come up for corners automatically, and secondly that you can't do anything about it with your tactics. Leagues become so unrealistic and predictable because defenders seldom get goal-scoring opportunities because they are never up there for set pieces. Not even strikers or midfielders get in the box for set pieces! Well, they don't for free kicks anyway, they just loiter on the edge of the area and pose no threat. Usually there is an average of three players in the box for corners, on the subject of which there ought to be new corner types.

Manual pass should be on the left stick.

1) Tap the pass button to get the normal scripted pass.
2) Hold the pass button to get a power bar.
3) Should have the ability to add slight curl (based on players stats)
4) You should be able to select the time delay between manual and scripted pass.

Basics:
1) 360 degree rotation on everything.
2) Select and move player around for throwins (use right stick)
3) Option of manual power bar for goal kicks/goalie throws: first press sets height, second press set power. Left stick changes angle at which goalie kicks the ball.Cancel using L1.
4) Option of manual power bar for throwins. 1st press sets height, 2nd press sets power. Cancel using L1
5) Option of manual power bar for through balls. Normal tap will pass the ball just in front of the attacker. Hold the through ball button for power bar that sets how far the ball will be played in front of the receiving player.

Freekicks/Corners:
1) Ability to select 1 or 2 players for freekicks even when the ball is in your own half.
2) You should be able to move the 2nd receving player so that they don't stand in an offside position or stand off the pitch L1 + left stick.
3) Move wall forwards or backwards or left or right (ref can blow whistle if wall is moved too near to kicker (Right stick).
4) Add/Remove players from wall L1+x/L1+o
5) Quick formations for defending/attacking freekicks/corners 5 presets and 5 user. 5 presets All out defend, defend, normal, attack, all out attack.
6) Move receiving player for corner using right stick.
7) Selecting players for freekicks/throwins/corners should not cost anything unlike changing formations.

Realistic "look" of the game

1) Player reactions:

You should look at the game and know who's winning and who's losing. The following should occur during the actual in-game gameplay, and not only at pauses/cutscenes.

- The losing team has more nervous, jerky reactions.
- They turn their heads more often and keep looking around them.
- They wave gestures all the time, like pointing at recieving positions, at attackers on the loose...etc
- They express deeper remorse on balls that go outside, lost chances...etc.
- Passing and shooting animations are made to look a bit more clumsy, and incoordinated.
- All these reactions (gestures, head turning, regret reactions) have different grades that become more intense with each difference in goals.

- The winning team also has reactions, only they are calm, steady, and confident.
- The head turning is less acute.
- Their gestures are calm, just as a brief overhead "clap", a "stay there" wave with the palm of the hand...etc.
- Lost chances are accompanied with smiling "oh well" reactions. And are dealt with in a much "cooler" way.
- Passing and shooting animations appear to "look" more balanced and in control.
- Show-off animations may be used more often, as in recieving a ball.
- All these reactions (gestures, head turning, cool reactions) have different grades that become more calm, confident and cheerful with each winning difference in goals.

NB - These gestures and animations should not affect the gameplay, only give a realistic look to the game, and provide an atmosphere overhaul by making the players more "human".

2) Camera:

A zoomed out, higher camera that remains stationary i.e. does not move inwards with the ball, so as not to ruin the sense of 3D depth seen on real TV soccer games. That way, players on the far side of the pitch appear slightly smaller. And the ball's size changes as it moves accross from the near end to the far end of the pitch.

I agree with most everything said in here, but we've been saying this since several years and I wouldn't have my hopes up that they finally do something about it. Not as long as the "old" way of doing it sells by the truckload.

Manual (pressure sensitive) passing is a MUST. Put it on the triangle button at least, make this a pass into space that is not scripted at all. The x pass might remain scripted for quick passing.

Fix the damn headers. It is ridiculous that every header balloons over the cross bar. Same for the shots. We need more consistency here and less dependence on the overall score. It just can't be that a player uses the same shot technique and once the ball dribbles away, another time it rockets around. Also: let me shoot flat and hard and shoot to where I point the stick at, not where you think the ball should go to make it more exciting.

Let the AI team tire, for the love of god. Stamina is a strategic tool in real football. It is utterly ridiculous that one team tires but the other can run through 90 minutes without signs of players losing stamina.

360 degree motion and passing. FIFA has it since years, yet here we are with the 8 or 9th iteration of PES and we still can pass in 45 degree units only.

Keepers suck. Fix it.

Get rid of the damn super cancel crap. My players should be intelligent enough to find the shortest way to the ball or stop running mindlessly in some direction when the ball is clearly going to be intercepted.

Stop this idiotic "i am scripted but i will pretend that i am random" nonsense which bounces every deflection back to my opposition.

Home and Away settings.

More difference in team/nations playing styles. Italian teams play more defensively and cover space. English teams play pressure footie. Yet in PES every team I play against plays the same style, doesn't matter whether it's Arsenal or Getafe.

And Henry, with 40 degree fever is still faster than Terry.

I totally agree. In EA's latest crappy UEFA game, even they realized the thru pass button should be pressure sensitive. The longer it is pressed, the farther away the ball is sent. Imagine the possibilities. You can decieve an entire defense if the thru ball is sent far enough.

I'd also like to see a "double-R1" move performed right before recieving a ball that makes the player allow the ball pass through his own legs as he turns around and recieves it. Very handy tool.

Pressing "O" while passing should add some height to the pass according to the duration it was pressed. Because now the only options are "ground pass", and "lob".

-------------

Continuing the "animations" suggestions, I'd like to see different animations for the same move in different situations. Like dribbling.

When a defender is dribbling on a wide area with no pressure around at all, his body is rather straight, his arms beside him, and generally appears more calm and subtle.

However, when a midfielder is attempting to penetrate many opposing players, he takes a more guarded stance, with a rather arched body and cautious arm gestures. And between these 2 animations are many other grades for less intense situations.

This would make the players seem much more alive.

Also a wing player running with someone on his trail should appear to be putting more effort in his run and constantly checking behind his back, at a rate according to his team's winning/losing status (see nervousness setting above)

And a MUCH wider pitch, please. Konami, just watch TV every once in a while.

-----------------------------------

Free Kicks:

The ability to train my players on a certain play that could cause the opposing wall to jump earlier, late, or send the ball to a position where the wall is rather ineffective. After good training, the play could be saved and used later in real matches.

I have loved PES since ISS Pro Evolution Soccer on the PSX. At that time the only football games I had played were Sensible Soccer, and Fifa. I never could understand the big woohoo about FIFA, the game was too damn easy and repetitive - crosses landing directly on heads, shots exactly in the corner...anyway. With ISS the thing changed. And I continued loving it through Pro Evo 1,2,3,4,5. After buying PES 6, I expected a major improvement on the previous excellent title. Not so. Allright, the movement combination of Pro 5 with the speed of Pro 4 was a good idea, but come on! Some innovation!

Pro Evolution Soccer 7 should be the major breakthrough in next-gen consoles, and the PC. The first thing to fix, is the commentary. Having played through Pro 4 for 20 seasons in the master league, I grew tired and annoyed at the same voice, same sayings. And the thing is, they're mostly out of point and boring. Konami should take a leaf out of EA for this one. And while we're on the subject, what the commentator says before and after the match are also important. As has already been said, a UEFA Champions League style opening with players at ease some time before lining up in the tunnel, with the expected line-up, players with one yellow card till suspension, injured players, players in form, top scorers, these would all make the game much more intense. And I just love the line-up players spreading out on the pitch in the formation used.

The notorious set-piece system. I mean, what's the use of having lucio, alex, fabio cannavaro, daniel passarella if you can't score with them (aside from dribbling all the way from your half). I recall earlier versions having defensive players actually moving to the penalty area when a set piece was appointed. What went wrong? This is an absolute necessity! Also, a "strategy plan" system for set pieces like in Football Manager would be great.

Presentation. Menus suck, they haven't been changed. There's no need to make a fifa-based interface which lags and takes ages to load, but come on! And every club should have a manager. Not just TWK,SPD,DFS,ATK, but "Manager:". And Mr. Manager should be visible in-game. Whistling and making hand gestures if necessary, being constantly agitated and moving if his team is playing badly, that kind of realism of which only PES is worthy. And what's with injured players? I don't recall players getting treated by themselves, by sitting on the ground watching the game. Players chosen to warm-up should do so - should be visible. And as someone already hinted, Big-Game controversy would make the game untouchable.

And referees giving yellow cards for simulations. Another attribute should be added to the PES interface - Controversy. A high value would encourage players to argue constantly with the referee. Which could result in a yellow card. Realism, Konami! That's how football is played nowadays! There's no need to introduce match-fixing, this is enough. The crowd and chants can be definitely improved, especially on consoles where patches are very complicated to introduce. And animation, very important. Although it seems random enough, experienced players notice that the ball always returns where the script wants it to. The body-part-transparency is also a problem - I've scored (and conceded) too many goals with the kicking leg going through some poor ghostly defender's torso.

Highlights! Remove the background music, leave the crowd sounds, and introduce the commentator talking in past tense "And in the 20th minute we had this chance for Napoli, Maradona hitting the crossbar with a devastating left foot drive" Think about it! Make PES a monopoly in football simulations! I wish you a good job, Konami, and I expect PES 7 to be overwhelming.

I read in a recent interview how Seabass praised Fifa's outstanding audio team, and the work they have done to the sounds of the game.

And also how he knows Fifa is way ahead in terms of presentation (menus,...etc).

And how WE's advantage lies in its gameplay.

After I read that I started thinking he has very little intention to improve the other defective aspects because it's more like a "lost cause".... and all he cares about is gameplay.

Somebody needs to convince him that atmosphere DOES affect the entire gaming experience heavily and an amazing gameplay would never replace that.

It sometimes sounds like KONAMI is a poor company that doesn't have the resources to improve its game the way we want... or is it.

I don't think the problem is with Konami. Take Suikoden, or Metal Gear Solid, for instance. I absolutely don't see any lack of resources put into these games. I think the question could be more related to either the "sports department", or they just have this false overconfidence that whereas Suikoden has rivals in Square's Final Fantasy, and Metal Gear has rivals in Ubisoft titles, with games such as Splinter Cell, they feel that PES has a monopoly in football.

What a mistake.
