QF #3: Netherlands - Russia [P + R]

Yea, and Hiddink got what he wanted - he wanted to be the biggest traitor in Holland's history, he succeeded.

By the way, that kid Kolodin has an amazing long range shot. Surely we will find many videos of his screamers on youtube in the future.

Help?

Could ne the wave of the future of European football....maybe a Russian team will make a run at the champions league...who knows...all I know is that this Russian team looks as indestructible and audacious and fast as that St. Petesburg team that destroyed the field on their way to the UEFA this year

Most of the guys from Zenit that won the UEFA Cup are starters for Russia right now and they both have Dutch coaches.

I'm heartbroken by the Oranje loss. But Russia was playing out of their skin, they put on a show, but no doubt they were assisted by the horrendous Dutch defence. I figured that a defence composed of a bench player at Blackburn, a mediocre player at HSV, an 35 year old midfielder for Feyenoord, and someone who's just had a personal tragedy were going to be exposed at some point in this tournament, too bad it came so soon...

No need to say though, that was an impressive game all around from Russia. They couldn't have done anything better, other than the overwhelming amount of obese topless dudes in the stands.

OH MAN did I hurhur at that description of the Dutch defence. I really wasn't aware that they were that frail and hopelessly lacking in that department. I was under the impression that the dudes you just lampooned were toughened vets playing in key roles for their respective club teams, man.

Why didn't Melchiot get more burn, man?

Seedorf "was not on the same page" as Marco van Basten. Just like Mark van Bommel.

maybe he wasn't assured a starting gig? Whatever the case, I'm embarrassed for 'em because MvB seems like a really nice and pleasant human that is easy to get along with, man.

When was the last time Robben actually played a few matches in a row without getting bloody injured? Must be years ago. He's one of those guys that have so much talent but just don't have the body to play professional football. Jari Litmanen comes to mind.

What are you on about?

I read on a Finnish newspaper's website that Hiddink had said something along those lines in an interview.

- Toivottavasti minusta tulee oikein suuri petturi, vuoden suurin. Haluan sitä todellakin, Hiddink kertoi Baselissa.

Hiddink told he doesn't just want to be a traitor, but the year's biggest traitor. This was a reply to a question on does he feel himself a traitor, as he's a Dutch coaching against Netherlands.

-Hopefully I will be a really big traitor, the year's biggest. I really want it, Hiddink told at Basel.

Well I don't see him as a traitor. The man is doing his job. I would've been surprised if he would've said something like 'I'm going to make my team score 10 own goals to make Holland progress'. I'm actually kind of proud that a Dutch coach can turn a sh*tty team into a attractive football playing machine in just a short period of time.

I know most Dutch don't probably think he's a traitor, I think Guus was just trying to setup some kind of a mental war between him and Marco by saying that.

man...after zenit's uefa victory and if russia wins the euros, soviet football would be on the scene in a huge way. i think it would be really cool, sorta reminds you of the past with eastern european teams doing the business with the an 'unknown' quality. football is soo western european focused, it would be good to see the reds come through.

Hiddink made the traitor comment as a joke to indicate that he wants to win and will have no sympathy for Holland in the match, that was all. There was no big deal about it.

I highly doubt Melchiot would have made any difference, bro. Also, he plays for relegated Birmingham City, enough said. He came on in the Romania game and was very average. Boulahrouz is a better RB than he is and John Heitinga was also above him in the pecking order.

Man, the next Dutch team for WC 2010 is going to be interested. They really need to find an entire lineup of new rear guards. I hope someone will step up and become the next Jaap Stam. But so far the talent pool is not looking great in that department.

Btw, I laughed my ass off when I saw a reporter interview a Russian football fan after the match. He said there's only one style to play football in Europe now - the Russian way. (H)

Shame that the Russian way is not so Russian.

understood, but hasn't he been with Wigan for the past year? He couldn've been any worse than Ooijer in centre, could he?

Man, I'm really dissapointed in the way the Dutch played.......the tournament has lost ALL of its color and the manner in which it has happened is a shame!!!
