Yo guys as a Russian this always was interesting.

What do you think of Smertin? Not being patriotic or anything, but I personally think the guy is amazing, I haven't seen him do anything bad in the matches I saw him play. However, I've never heard him mentioned in the media much and not many mentions from the fans...

what do you think of him? is he good enough to start all the CL matches?

also what'd u think of CSKA Moscow in their game against Chelsea?

from what i've seen of Smertin, he definitely deserves his place in Chelsea.

Smertin is a good versatile player.

He's often too though which makes him do lots of fouls and gets him yellow cards but he's one of those players who never gives up.

He's not a flashy player, he's a battle player that's why he isn't mentioned much... but he's been playing well for Chelsea.

Smertin is exactly the kind of player Mourinho likes. A low profile player who keeps running the 90 mins, fights a lot and is more useful to his team than people imagine.

Always great to have this kind of players in a team... He's not a technical player, but a team (and specially a Mourinho team) it's not made of "stars" that can drible and make great tricks... He likes this kind of players, players that can give 100% when the team need them.

I saw Smertin most game last season as im a Pompey season ticket holder, and tried to go to nearly every away game last year. He became a big big player in our team, from making his debut against Wolves, to ending his spell with us at home to Boro.

He's a class act and him and Amdy Faye really had a good partnership. Smertin's a good tackler, a good passer, can shoot, can attack and defend. A very good player to have. I think he can establish a place at Chelsea, and at most other teams. Chelsea have got good players so I was unsure whether he'd play. But it looks like Jose's given him chances, lets just hope he takes them.

He was brilliant for us last season though, helped us stay up blatantly, class :) (H)

he is quite good... but the probs is chelsea av too many midfielders... so he av to fight bravely to get his place on first eleven

I'm surprised he got the cold shoulder from Ranieri last season. I wouldn't say he's amazing, but he's a very good utility player, I thought he would be one of the first to get the boot when Mourinho announced he would cut the squad down to 24.

I'm quite suprised Smertin's got a place on the squad, though. Considering Chelsea already have Lampard, Parker, Geremi and Makelele who have similiar roles.

well no football team is a football team unless it has a russian player as a starter =p

i think the reason smertin makes it into starting while competing with makelele & co is because he is much more stable than any of the stars on the Chelsea team. plus he always gives his 100%... which is probably why he only starts in CL matches he needs the month off to recover =p

but from what I watched (and I haven't watched much football lately - US isn't exactly a football-showing country), Smertin is pretty equal to the other defensive mids. He might not have some outstanding moves, but he does his job and does it well.

plus that goal against celtic in US was amazing. =D

Smertin has made 5 starts for Chelsea in the EPL and 2 starts in the CL, substituted in 4 times. Played pretty much in most of the games for Chelsea so far.

Awesome player, great tackles, passes, and shooting ability... he communicates well with the players and I heard everyone in the team likes him. Hopefully he continuous starting. (Y)
