I've just been for my flu jab and I'm pondering this...

Why is it injected into a muscle, as opposed to a vein? Maybe I've seen too many films about smack, but it slightly makes me wonder why medical experts inject you in the muscle at the top of your arm.

Actually almost any muscle would do, not only the one at the top of your arm. Most of the vaccines (not all, though) are being injected there, because if you inject the vaccine into to a muscle the vaccine won't take effect too fast. If you inject it straight to a vein, it will get to your bloodstream immediately and that could cause some serious problems or...well, death.

quick fact:


Horatiu at the age of 3 (i think?) had a total of over 100 penicilin ( i think?) shots in his ass, spanning 1 month.


You guys have no idea how gung-ho Romania is about giving children medication via "shots" .

I used to be - it just went away as I got older thank god.
I manage to get a chest infection about 3 times a year, and have had the flu a few times. I don't do well during Winter
