This was going to be the year Mourinho won the European Supercup and Club World Cup... Blame Arbeloa and Neuer. Still, I just hope there's more blood in the Clásicos, which, let's face it, are the only games that matter in La Liga.

He needs to be in the midfield, and use him for his attacking ability. Putting him at the back would not be the best move for him.

Less than an hour to kick off, can't wait

Tough firs game to kick off the league, and then an entertaining midweek match. Sure we lost, but at least we are still alive, thanks to Valdez, and Di Maria's quick thinking.

Now it's onto meet Getafe and get some three points.

Modrić is just what Real need, I've watched him since his first days at Dinamo and this guy is a monster, my opinion is maybe a bit strong on him because he's a Croatian but this guy can hold the ball and shake of a marker like no-one, and his intelligence is great. Real needed a creative player with an engine that sits a little deeper than Ozil, Ronaldo, Beznema and Di Maria, someone behind them. And while alonso is great, calm and gives a great long pass, Modrić is much more creative. But put them together and you can beat anybody. Plus Ozil especially will benefit from Modrić, Ozil has great movement and a player like Luka will know exactly what to do with his runs!

Modric and Ozil style are quite same, creative, great assists, lack of goals, ....

a bit overpriced ... but good signing though

Ozil is more direct in dribbling and takes more risks, looses more balls than Modrić, Ozil plays in the hole while Modrić is really a lot deeper positioned player, Ozil gives the final pass, while Modrić organizes the whole teams play. Other than the fact that both players are more passers than goalscorers i see no similarities between then, plus, Madrid has enough firepower up front with Benzema, Ronaldo, Higuain and even Di Maria chipping in. They've looked clueless against Barcelona IMO throughout the most games in the last couple of season just because they didn't have a player like Modrić that controls that middle of the park with authority, and that's what Luka does, while in Barca you have Xavi and a lot of players that can do the same, Madrid relied on long balls, and quick passing, counter attacking football. For me, it's harder to play that kind of football for the whole game, you have to be more skillful to react that quick and react intelligently, Ozil Ronaldo and Benzema have done that great, but they loose balls and that kills them against Barcelona, now they have a player that can control the tempo of the game.

Puts Real de Madrid in troubles. Oh well, i always see La Liga like they had 2 leagues inside. La Liga 1 (Real + Barça) and La Liga 2 (The rest). I really enjoy Premier League and Bundesliga more than La Liga, but this is another topic.

Barça and Madrid are in another league, no one in the world can challenge them (in a league championship) but unlike scotland any team of la liga can beat you
