The chemistry shouldn't be a big problem. We bought Eto'o, Larsson, Santi, Deco, Edmilson, Sylvinho and Belletti in the summer of 2004 and it was a great season. The most difficult task for Schuster will be to bench Raul. If he can do that, you will virtually have an extra player on the team. I doubt he'll do it, though. Not even Capello benched Raul, and this is the guy who drove Ronaldo out of the club and benched the biggest shirt seller.

Schuster just doesn't seem like someone who would have the balls to do it.

btw Robben is a quality signing. Not worth €36M, but definitely a quality player who will do a lot for you if he can stay fit.

This is true. Honestly, I think there is a curse waiting for any coach who dares to bench Raul. It's as if 7 years bad luck or some personal plague awaits he who dares!!! Perhaps I wouldn't want to sit him either. Whatever the case, the power Raul has at Real Madrid is crazy. I would like to see him retire and take some fairly high profile job with us. Kind of like Alfredo DiStefano, honarary president, or an ambassador...or anything! I would hate to just see him disapear too.

Raul should take over Mijatovic's job cause you know he would side towards siginig young talent, from the cantera as well, kind of like himself...He is a legend in his own right, but he really needs to be the one to tell Schuster, that he needs to sit down

I think the club feels bad and so won't bench him. I think they are waiting for him to give it up. Anyways, looking forward to the derby. Perfect way to start the season. I have a feeling that our squad will show up tomorrow and command the game and come away w/ the 3 points. I predict: 3-1 Goals by Robinho, Ramos, Ruud and Forlan for them.

Yeah, and whenever ADP was coming in, the crowd was delighted. When he was being subbed off, the crowd booed Capello. Juve fans love ADP, but I think it's much stronger with Raul and Madridistas.

What the player feels is never important. Managers don't give a sh*t about that, especially not Capello. Just remember how Ronaldo was kicked out, or Beckham. The difference was, none of them had Raul's status. What's important is the opinion of the fans. In Raul's case, he never gets booed in the Bernabeu. No matter how he plays. The club leaders know this and they want to please the fans, so the coach is forced to play him at all times.

I'm 100% sure Raul wouldn't mind being on the bench. He'd fight for his place like every other player. But, again, his feelings, Schuster's tactical plans and all that don't mean anything. The Bernabeu adores this player and it seems like that will never change. I can't remember the last good game he played and they still worship him. It's different with Madrid citizens and other Madridistas from around the world. I see a lot of people on the Internet (95% of Madridistas) wanting Raul on the bench, some even want him sold, but it's different with the people in the stadium. Madrid presidents don't want to mess with the fans, so every coach chooses a team of 10 players + Raul by default.

He's untouchable, unfortunately for your club.

Not really, after the Sevilla match the big topic was if Raul should start or not and some people that called in from Spain ( Madrid be it ) said he should be benched. I know some other Socio's ( either in Madrid or who have grown up in Madrid and now live elsewhere ) who would not mind it if he was benched so that's not really true. I think that if Saviola was to replace him for a couple games and perfrom than we would not really mind it, Raul has done a lot and a been a legend but even the fans in the staduim know that he is not performing like he use to.

BTW has Pepe gotten his citizenship yet? I think that might be why Marcelo has not been played yet, too many non-eu's in the squad until Pepe gets his cleared up than Marcelo is good to go.

I know that not EVERYONE in Madrid wants him to start, but a big majority of the fans there do. If it was otherwise, he would have been benched.

The only reason that player keeps starting for your club are the fans. Nothing else.

And the discussion about whether he should start or not are irrelevant. There have been such discussions online for years now. I was reading on another forum the other day a discussion about whether Schuster would have the balls to bench Raul, and a Madridista said that every summer they have these discussions and get their hopes up, and nothing happens. His status in the team has been questioned many times, it isn't since the Supercopa, but still it remains the same.

I'd be very surprised if he got the bench. The Bernabeu crowd wouldn't tolerate it, IMO. They haven't so far, and I don't see what could change. He's been ruining your chances for years now and they don't seem to care. They didn't hesitate to boo Ronaldo for his "game", but Raul is a different story, despite the fact that they were equally sh*t, perhaps Raul was even worse than Ronaldo, and yet the latter was forced out, and Raul is still your starter.

At the same time there is a big difference between Raul and Ronaldo, apart from Raul's past with Madrid he sitll did try ( but could not produce ) while Ronaldo was just a lazy **** and a cancer to the locker room. Call me crazy but I would rather keep a Raul on the team than a Ronaldo if you know what I mean. Of course not everyone will like the move but I think it would be more respectable than people are thinking of. Anyway let's see what happens.

yeah i have to agree the raul situation is very weird, if i remember right capello did bench him a lot didnt he? , i mean merengue fans are proud people and love their icons , but they arent stupid people either, i might think they love winning more before anything, even if it means benching raul, i just dont know maybe schuster see's a diferent player in training, maybe he works better than saviola, soldado in his system, hell even maybe schuster knows the players feel more comfortable having a guy like raul in the field, its sounds crazy but it happens.... i just cant imagine seeing every coach that has passed in madrid lately manipulated or intimidated by the fans...

hummm.....I am all for benching Raul....I love Raul, I love what he has done, but I love to see Madrid win; I love what is best for the team; and if I was the coach I would not hesitate to bench Raul if that is what I felt was in the best interest of the team...

Does Raul bring intangibles to the fore...sure, he has what people have come to know as a dying breed of forward...He is a fighther, he is a leader; he will fight till the end of a match, you can never fault the guy for lack of effort and he has that nose for the goal, at any given time he could pop one in.......the problem is that his tangibles, his actual form is just so far below the standard. It is not even funny anymore, I wish I could throw this guy a rope but I know he has to know that it might be time to start letting the Saviola's of the world start a game or two....Hell go on a rotation with Saviola or Soldado, or something, but he must get the bench once in a while at least

I remember the last great game he played. You probably do too. Remember that header he got against you guys at the Bernabeu? That victory that day was all the difference in us winning La Liga. Raul came up big.

Wow, Vedran! You really have feces coming out of your mouth at times. Yea, pin the blame on Raul, he's the reason why we haven't won many trophies lately(N) Of course you are quick to point out our weaknesses and stab at us at any chance. Anyway, lets talk about Barca and the reasons why you are a very distant 2nd alltime and why you didn't win last year. Why you are 7 CL trophies away from us, etc...

And what the f*ck has that to do with any of this??? I don't think he means he's the reason you didn't win trophies those years you didn't, but that he has ruined some chances, adn you could've had better players on the field instead of him. He definitely wasn't stabbing you....

And still, we'll have to see about who's first and who's second or whatever, as the season starts. Let's talk after something really happens. Are you really that arrogant that you think we stand no chance and you're the sure winners?
