Liverpool played very conservatively, which was no surprise. What surprised me was that Real Madrid did not go after the win. They played with very little ambition. Robben seemed to be the only one intent on creating chances, and they ended up paying for it. After scoring 10 goals in two matches they really should have gotten the offense going.

Agree, Liverpool game plan was to defend and go for wait for the second leg or in this case score off a set piece which they did. Anyway I was not so impressed by our performanc eithe though, Gago was really disapointing for some reason as was Higuain and Ramos. I don't know what happened to the team, the guys (Gago and Higuain) usually play a lot better. I also expected more from Raul who had been on great form prior to this. Oh I also would not have subbed out Marcelo, it just limited us to only one guy runing the wings which was Robben who was the only player that tried to do anything. Oh well, another year we exit at the same stage than. Last but not least, Heinze gave up a really foolish and unneccesary foul for them to score on.

Anyway this game just shows that we really struggle against a team that like Liverpool was really well organized in their gameplan and we really had no ideas to change it.

Just watching the match now, can anyone tell me why Lassana Diarra has "Lass" on the back of his shirt??? How strange is it. Maybe Beckham should have "Becks".

Oh, and looking at Real Madrid here, if they don't come away with at least a 2-0 win they're going to get mullered at Anfield.

Because we have M. Diarra and he wanted it to be Lass....I guess that's his actual nickname.

Big mistake was puttin Guti for Marcelo. He slowed down our attack. All he does is wait for a "perfect" passing opportunity. We played well the first 25 min. and should have kept it up. Wasnt a horrid performance by any means. There sstill 1 more leg.

agreed....Guti has no room in Ramos's plans for the team IMO...he adds nothing at this point of his career, because the scheme we play is too fast for him and his decision making takes forever, Schuster suited him much much better.....

anyway...............Im pissed, I had high hopes, putting two in, in Anfield is gonna be hard very hard....Higuain held on too long and as you guys pointed out when Marcelo came out it hurt us...

also why in the hell did we sign Faubert if we are not even gonna play the lad....

Madrid didn't play badly, but they played safely. It felt like a friendly for the majority of the match. Liverpool didn't press very much and Madrid seemed content to slow down as well.

By comparison, look at what Lyon did yesterday. Barcelona had to fight just to get to midfield because Lyon's players were all over them the instant they touched the ball.

I thought for the first 25 min. we looked dangerous and brilliant and thought we would net one. I agree with your assesment. As the game went on that was the feeling. If it would have ended 0-0 it would have been ok for us. Allowing away goals is the nail in the coffin in the cl. The game had no hope when Guti came in. I have no idea why a slowpoke like that would be ut in especially after coming back from a slight injury. Marcelo could have done something. He has the pace and showed a few moments of danger out there. Anyway, that setpiece goal was all the difference. It was all even steven before that.

Guys, scoring goals at Anfield is very possible. Hell, we can even score from a setpiece in the dying minutes just like they did. It's up to Juande to figure something out. The 2nd leg will be the only test for him to see if he remains coach next year. Mark my word.

I agree, I did not like the tactics today. We played way too slow and safe, kind of as if we were really scared of Liverpool or something. We actually kind of reminded me of Inter yesterday, and they were **** so that basically sums us up.

Also I don't like that when we do play with Robben we always look to give him the ball when we don't play with him than we actually play as a team and look for another scoring route. It's frustrating for the team to just pass the ball off to him, we need to figure something better out.

i dont see the result is as dramatic as it seems, madrid are kings of beeing an unpredictible team, and unpredictible results, the key for madrid is to try and score first and very fast in pool, after that its anybodys game again.

Wow a non-douchy Barca post in the Madrid thread... good job my man.

Liverpool are a very tricky team in CL as they are so good at it... but you have a chance in the 2nd leg.

Yeah! We were in the same place two years ago when they won 1-2 in Camp Nou. Also, the key for us was to score first and eralier. But we failed and scored very late, and that cost us... I think that if Madrid scores first before 30' they can qualify.

I am waiting for second leg because I can't expect anything although Liverpool is in a better situation.

:: Because people can't predict Liverpool's play easily. My friends sometimes bet for match but they are angry becaz of Valencia, Liverpool, Arsenal.
